Why are they so bloody lovely? We don’t deserve them do we? Loyalty like no other. Always happy to see you. People are great but dogs just go above and beyond.

Couldn't agree more :) my dogs make my life a much better place I absolutely love them to bits.
We don't deserve dogs

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 07/02/2024 01:14

I agree. I have a golden retriever and he’s the best thing ever. He’s a rescue and was treated horribly in his previous home but you’d never know. He loves everyone and everyone loves him. Even my 7 month old has started smiling and reaching out when he sees him. I definitely don’t deserve him.

DramaAlpaca · 07/02/2024 01:25

I'd never been a dog person. I'd had three female springers because DH wanted them, but I always preferred our cats - total cat person. Liked the dogs of course, but no special bond.

Until, that is, boy springer came into our lives. DH and DS picked him from the litter, I made all the right noises but just thought to myself 'He's another dog, so what?'

But boy spaniel chose me as 'his' person. I don't even feed him, DH does. But he instantly bonded completely and totally to me. Springers are known as velcro dogs and I had no choice in the matter. He adores me. And I fell completely in love with him. He's currently asleep beside me on the sofa and will follow me upstairs later. He's amazing.

They embody all things good.

Haunt561 · 07/02/2024 01:38

I’m glad to see some positive comments. They really are the best

I have 3 and even when I'm having a bad day, things always feel better after a cuddle from them.

One of them has recently decided that every day after a meal, he needs lots of cuddles until he decides he's had enough and if you dare try to ignore him he just sits staring at you until you cuddle him. We have no idea why he's started doing this but I love it. He walks around in a circle depending on where he wants scratches/rubs and he looks like a silly doughnut at times. His tail hits him in the face when he does that but that doesn't stop him.

Poppysmom22 · 07/02/2024 06:02

They really are just everything good wrapped up in a lovely furry package. Mine are the light of my life they make me laugh everyday and gave me a life I didn’t think was possible.

SquashPenguin · 07/02/2024 06:04

Mine makes my life complete. So nice to see an appreciative thread rather than the usual miseries we get on here and the never ending whinging about dogs!

LuvMyBoyz · 07/02/2024 06:12

You think they’re great but I don’t. I don’t want them running towards me, barking at me or sniffing around me. Keep them on a close lead when you’re out with them.

minniethemooch · 07/02/2024 06:18

The op said this a dog appreciation post , Luvmyboyz. Feel free to post your comments on a dog haters thread .
I think dogs are fantastic , can't imagine life without them Smile

Toooldtoworry · 07/02/2024 06:19

I love my 3, they make my day.

Whattodo121 · 07/02/2024 06:20

My dog is currently under my duvet with the electric blanket on, with her head resting on my foot. I love her 😍

Vates · 07/02/2024 06:20

My Sister's whippets stopped me from becoming agoraphobic again. I left the house for them every week day. One has since passed but I am devoted to the one left. I dog sit 2/3 times a week and will be looking after her for a whole week in March, can't wait! They made a positive change to my life and I will be forever grateful. Also means that I am now completely in love with all skinny dogs (whippets, greyhounds, Italian greyhounds and lurchers). They make me happy!

ownedbymydog · 07/02/2024 06:21

This is a great idea for a thread, thanks, @Haunt561 . The vast, vast majority of dog owners are just brilliant, and genuinely keep my friend’s cafe in business…the more dogs the better, I say!

Oh bore off.

Dogs are incredible creatures and agree embody everything that’s good about life. I couldn’t live without my 2. They’re so different but equally amazing!

XelaM · 07/02/2024 06:31

Absolutely dogs are the the most incredible creatures and we definitely don't deserve them! I cannot put into words how lovely, loving, intelligent and absolutely magical our little boy is. 😍 (Photo shows how close he loves to cuddle up to us - and he loves to hog the electric blanket because he doesn't like the cold 🥰)

I love dogs and am very sad not to have any dog in my life, but I actually agree that I don't want strange dogs running towards me, barking or sniffing me while I'm out either. It's fine not to like that and probably not loads of people do. But at home or in someone's garden or home, I love being around dogs. It's the shared relationship and love and understanding between you that's wonderful, not the out of control, exuberant jumping up at strangers.

gillybombilly · 07/02/2024 06:34

I adore my dog, who sticks to me like velcro - he is a huge standard poodle and is so well known and loved in the neighbourhood.

My husband gets miffed (in a jokey way) that our dog won’t stay with him when I go out - he waits on the stairs until I return.

MrsLeavemealone · 07/02/2024 06:40

I love my dog. She is a beautiful calm whippet. One of my teenagers suffers from anxiety and she's taken on the role of therapy dog. They have such a wonderful bond, she calms her when things get too much. I'm very grateful and lucky to have such a peaceful doggy soul in our home.

Zanatdy · 07/02/2024 06:41

Adore my dog, so do the kids. For my 16yr old DD who is struggling with many things right now having a dog who is so happy to see her means everything. He’s a therapist in himself! Also for me, he’s my constant, my everything. I absolutely adore him. Sadly he’s going blind as he’s been diagnosed with glaucoma (only 6) so it’s heartbreaking but we will take care of him. Dogs are amazing and I’ve always had one in my life (sure there are drawbacks but this is a dog appreciation post!). Yay to the dogs who make life so much nicer

This is a dog appreciation post. Go and take your comment to the hundreds of negative posts we see on here constantly. No need to post that on this thread thanks

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/02/2024 06:42

YAbU because there’s only one picture on this thread. Shame on the rest of you.

here’s my girl, she’s six months old- Maggie. She’s my first dog. I won’t say it’s been easy but in many ways, the challenge of her being an utter knobhead has really strengthened our bond.

God’s / evolution’s (delete according to your belief) greatest achievement. My fluffy little twat makes every single day better. He’s my fourth dog, when the last one went I vowed to have a year off. Three months later he was ensconced on the sofa.

Zanatdy

I really feel for you. Our first poodle went blind overnight when she was 10, but adapted so quickly around the house.

We kept to her favourite walk, and she knew as soon as she felt the grass under her paws that she had a huge field to run safely on, and was also able to listen to the beeps of the zebra crossing so she knew when to stay and walk on.

Dogs really are the most amazing animals.

Hoglet70 · 07/02/2024 07:01

Love this post. Mumsnet is so anti-dog. My resued velcro dog is fabulous. I love her so much. She has the best wag, is happy to see everyone and makes everyone who loves her happy too. I wouldn't part with her.
