Why are they so bloody lovely? We don’t deserve them do we? Loyalty like no other. Always happy to see you. People are great but dogs just go above and beyond.

Not to mention @YeOldeGreyhound that all dog friendly pubs and cafes STINK of dog and there are dog hairs everywhere 🙄

Mothership4two · 10/02/2024 01:14

@LuvMyBoyz

You think they’re great but I don’t. I don’t want them running towards me, barking at me or sniffing around me.

My dog has zero interest in you and would not approach you even if we let her

Keep them on a close lead when you’re out with them.

In the street yes (on a normal slip lead not a close one), but otherwise it's not necessary as we have our dog under control at all times as is the Law.

GlitterBall91 · 10/02/2024 03:27

I don’t have a dog but they bring me so much joy ! I intentionally plan my walking routes so that I’ll see as many as possible

BouleDeSuif · 10/02/2024 08:33

The "dog owners hate children" always confuses me as so many people have both, me included.
I love dogs. I love children. Parks with dogs and children make me happy.

Peemails!🤣🤣🤣🤣

Dog appreciation, oh yes, here is my girl. Very outing, she has her own social media, and she is well-known locally, I am obsessed with her, too, and show her pictures to people. 😅 She does classes every week, workshops, nosework, mantrailing, search and rescue skills, tracking. She is brilliant.

I can't get a pic of my dog to post. He's amazing. He's 12 and he's been my best friend in the world for that entire time. He's never misbehaved in his life. I feel so connected to him and the fact he's turned into such an old man in the last 12 months makes me very sad

Yay! It worked!!!

MrsGaryKemp · 10/02/2024 17:42

@K0OLA1D Is he an Aussie? He's a handsome boy!

Just your average border collie off a farm. He was from a replacement litter pup.

I have only just seen this thread. To me, dogs are just great. My friend's greyhound saved my life once (I literally believe this) by cuddling me on his sofa for hours at a time while I was having a mental health breakdown and suicidal ideation. Nobody but a dog could have shown the patience he did.

And the dog I have now, he's just a cracking dog. Extremely kind and emotionally intelligent. Wouldn't be without him - nor would my husband or my daughter.

Dogs are great.

Teddleshon · 10/02/2024 19:21

@Ilovelurchers lovely post. I honestly believe that dog ownership can help with so many mental health issues.

20 years ago a dog saved me from being raped. If he hadn't barked and chased the creep away, I would have been raped a few metres from my apartament. So, yes I do love dogs.
And this my lovely samoyed:
PS. I love all your dogs!

No such thing as an 'average' Border Collie! Amazing dogs!

That dog was truly amazing. You were so lucky the dog knew to help you.
Your samoyed is beautiful 😍

Wigglywoodworm · 10/02/2024 22:09

Our little girl likes to be warm & snuggly. Honestly don't know what we'd do without her.

Well yes, I have to agree! Average was the wrong word to use!

Runssometimes · 11/02/2024 10:41

I love this thread and feel sorry for the people that don’t like dogs as they are missing out. They are so good for mental and physical health, mine has plummeted since my dog died and my weight has gone in the opposite direction.

daliesque · 11/02/2024 10:56

@Mistymist we were talking about maybe getting a Samoyed next time (hopefully years in the future). Are they very difficult dogs? I'm used to collies and labs so have no experience of such fluffiness!

K0OLA1D · 11/02/2024 12:09

I've very much upset my old man today by fleaing him. He likes to wander round our swivel chair, I think, until it dries, giving me evils on each pass

Mistymist · 11/02/2024 12:49

@daliesque I actually find them very easy-going and quite adaptable to any change in schedule and diet. They are very smart and easy to train despite being stubborn. I've raised him to be tolerant of other species such as cats or small animals. He is a child magnet and gentle with kids in case they want to pet him at the park.
He loves long walks and cold weather, but he got to used to hot weather and doesn't have any issues in the summer. The fur needs brushing quite often and the shedding season might be a nightmare, but the texture of the hair makes it easy to clean/hoover. He is healthy, hasn't had any major health issues throughout his life and he will be 13 next month. All in all, they are not a difficult breed at all.

Do an advanced search I wasn't sure either until I put in the username and the word dog 🤣 there's a lot to unpack.

You aren’t kidding 😂🤣 Apparently, that particular PP ’get this [people over sharing] but the problem is they are usually new people at work etc. I don't know why, people say I am approachable’. Id love to know in what world this deranged person lives to be viewed as ‘approachable’ by normal people🤣😂🤣😂

My Lhasa Apso is hilarious after his flea treatment. He paces up and down in front of people until he's sure you're paying attention to him then he sits down forcefully, but facing away from the person and with a big huff at the same time. Then he'll peek over his shoulder to see if he's still being watched. If not then he'll do it again.

Dogs with their big huffs are hilarious.
If we stay up late (by his reckoning, at least) my dog will signal bedtime to us by repeatedly looking at us and then the stairs, whilst making big impatient huffs.
Never fails to crack me up!
