Why are they so bloody lovely? We don’t deserve them do we? Loyalty like no other. Always happy to see you. People are great but dogs just go above and beyond.

I lost my best friend three years ago and I miss him everyday. Dogs are absolutely the best things ever.

I keep toying with the idea of getting another but it feels like such a huge betrayal to my old doggo.

Luckily, I'm now a grandpupma and a couple of my friends have dogs that I can cuddle.

@LuvMyBoyz Once, a very long time ago when my Lab was visiting a residential home just as all the residents were eating cake. He forgot himself and swiped 2 slices of cake directly from the residents plates. 🤣🤣 Much to the amusement and joy of everyone!

(The residents were given clean plates and fresh cake don’t worry!)

My dog may well have saved my life/my baby’s life in my last pregnancy. I had gestational diabetes and I was taking insulin, he clearly sensed something was wrong in the middle of the night and kept barking at my husband and licking my face until DH woke up and realized I wasn’t really responding (he never normally barks or leaves his basket overnight). DH was able to wake me up enough to get me to drink some sugary juice and I was fine, but without the dog he may not have noticed there was a problem.
He is a very good boy (and I will never begrudge buying the very expensive dog food that he likes best!)

I bloody miss my silly old bugger who had to be PTS in October. He pretty much kept me going through lockdown when I was stuck in my flat by myself.

I was adamant I wasn’t going to replace him but life seems so empty without a dog.

@Teaandcrumpets86 Wow. That is amazing.

Verv · 07/02/2024 11:54

Dogs are just the best thing ever.
This is mine, I rescued him just over a year ago and he's 3.5 now.
He's a placid and sunny little fellow and I adore him.

@Iheartmysmart Gorgeous boy❣️. I agree, as heartbreaking as they can be, I’ll always have a pupper.

MotherofWhippets81 · 07/02/2024 11:57

I mean LOOK AT THEM 😩

They are complete PITA's but the difference they make to my mental health, my ND son and our family is immeasurable.

I keep dipping in and out of MN at the moment because I hate all of the dog bashing posts (no issue with current issues being discussed but when people are saying all dogs should be destroyed 🙄)

Life is better with a dog 🐶

@Iheartmysmart , I managed five years of saying never again before getting current pup. He'll never be my girl but I didn't realise just how much I missed having a dog.

Loving the pics, cheering me up on my break at work.

Yes 🤣 I have a St Bernard and a Yorkshire Terrier, Mavis is the size of Betty's paw 🤣

This sounds like the best thing EVER and should be a TV show.

Why should I not comment on a dog appreciation post? Dog lovers always comment when there are posts about incidents where dogs haven’t been under proper control of their owners. I’m fed up of dog appreciators whose dogs scare me.

Oh grow up.

Rantypanties · 07/02/2024 12:32

I absolutely adore my boy and am spending as much time as I can with him right now due to him having aggressive cancer. We were given a prognosis of 3 months but he's 2 weeks past that and doing ok although I’m noticing some subtle changes in him. I can’t help feeling he’s holding on for us, he’s being the bravest boy!

Dogs are better than people. I have two. They are both a pain in the arse at times, but aren’t we all? Their waggling tails and the way their ears pin back when they greet you first thing in the morning, if you’ve been out for the day, if you’ve dared to take 5 mins in the bathroom without them. If I’m going to somebody’s house and they have a dog, the dog will be greeted first 😁they have an unconditional love for you. We don’t deserve them.

My Labrador was banned from the hospice by the general manager(actually DH!) after some table clearing by tail resulting in broken crockery.

Missingmyusername · 07/02/2024 12:47

@muddyford ooops! 😝 We got rid of our coffee table for the same reason!

Teddleshon · 07/02/2024 12:49

Totally agree, so incredibly life enhancing and just the best for a family.

Iheartmysmart · 07/02/2024 12:56

@Missingmyusername Thank you. He was such a lovely boy. So gentle and loved everything and everyone. A couple of my neighbours actually cried when I lost him.

@Rowgtfc72 I’m already starting to cave after four months. It’s so quiet without him, DS is away at Uni so I’m on my own a lot.

LuvMyBoyz · 07/02/2024 06:12

You think they’re great but I don’t. I don’t want them running towards me, barking at me or sniffing around me. Keep them on a close lead when you’re out with them.

Wrong thread for you!

Because here they run towards us, tail wagging slobber & mud all over our new trousers & coats - thank goodness for that washing machine!
They are described as PTA, but the next minute we retract because they give you that all loving and trusting look of innocence.

They steal food and our hearts at the same time.
You really can't bet us, so get a dog and join us!

Puppytrashedmysofa · 07/02/2024 12:59

He cost us a new suite but we still love him to bits.He gets me walking miles every week , I'm much fitter now. He's a complete nutter and very affectionate but he's too big now to sleep on our bed so our kids got him overnight so all good now.
He's also a great guard dog ,even though he doesn't bite ,will just lick you to death.I want another of the same breed now can't wait till we can afford it.

This was when I first introduced Betty to Mavis. Thankfully they loved each other.

I should put them in a kids book, not sure I could curb my language enough to be TV appropriate 🤣

Adore my dog, so do the kids. For my 16yr old DD who is struggling with many things right now having a dog who is so happy to see her means everything. He’s a therapist in himself! Also for me, he’s my constant, my everything. I absolutely adore him. Sadly he’s going blind as he’s been diagnosed with glaucoma (only 6) so it’s heartbreaking but we will take care of him. Dogs are amazing and I’ve always had one in my life (sure there are drawbacks but this is a dog appreciation post!). Yay to the dogs who make life so much nicer

He’ll be ok…one of the regulars in our park is blind and he’s really lively and happy. They don’t rely on their sight as much as we do x

AmethystSparkles · 07/02/2024 13:32

My daft old meerkat. At least I inadvertently trained him to do something. He started doing this very very occasionally and received so much attention that he does it several times a day now🙂
