Husband ill, but messing up house

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:27

Husband is poorly. A bad cold. Temperature. Sinuses all stuffed up. Headache etc. I leave him on the sofa and clean the house without him today, letting him rest.

I finish cleaning and he decided to get showered and dressed. Decides to shave in the freshly cleaned bathroom getting hairs everywhere. Doesn’t since the soap suds off the bath screen so the bubbles are drying to the glass.

Comes upstairs, sits on the bed to put his socks on. Doesn’t straighten up the bed and then walks across the carpet leaving tiny black bits of old sock.

Goes into en-suite and brushes his teeth, getting toothpaste spit droplets all over the mirror and shower door. Leave wet towel hanging over my display white towels.

Now I feel really angry. Took me ages on my day off to do all of the cleaning by myself. I work full time so value the weekends and am pissed off that I’m now cleaning up after him.

DH says - the house is to be lives in. Then tries to hug me.

Who’s being unreasonable?

You’ve both got to laugh!! Or what’s the point!
Take the hug , throw a cloth at him and tell him to do the hairs

minipie · 11/11/2023 14:31

Or…. he could clean up and then ask for the hug.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 11/11/2023 14:31

When DH is ill, he gets told to use one room and one bathroom. That way, he can make all the mess he likes and then gets to deal with it afterwards.

I'd be furious if I'd spent ages cleaning, and he'd done that it. Why didn't he use it before you cleaned...

Cornettoninja · 11/11/2023 14:32

The only thing I’d bother with is the hairs (and make it known I was narky about it) and then be clear the rest is his to sort out when he’s better.

The bits of sock on the carpet is particularly precious imho.

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:33

It’s just wound me up. Literally starts messing up the house the second I stop cleaning. I’m trying to feel unbothered, but I want to bloody bash him over the head with his can of shaving foam to be honest.

Does he normally do his share of the cleaning, when he's not ill? If so I'd cut him some slack. If not, that's the thing you need to be addressing.

Cornettoninja · 11/11/2023 14:35

Sorry to back him up further, but he was just doing normal ‘living’. I opened the thread thinking he’d left piles of snotty tissues out and a small bomb site in the kitchen. The man just had a shower and got dressed!

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:35

To answer a few questions, he didn’t get ready first because he was originally going to stay in his pyjamas today and have a hot bath later to ease his aches.

I do have OCD and the sock bits really show up on my cream carpets so it drives me mental.

Yes, he normally does half.

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:37

Ok, so I’m being slightly unreasonable? But would it really hurt to ask people to at least ‘try’ to appreciate the fact I’ve just cleaned?

What do you expect him to do if not walk on the carpet - levitate?

The hairs would annoy me. The not straightening the bed thing is utterly trivial and unimportant. And the “display white towels” is just bizarre.

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:45

“What do you expect him to do if not walk on the carpet - levitate?”

This made me laugh. OK. I know. Thanks

YABU to have “display towels”

KittensandPerverts · 11/11/2023 14:47

Leaving his disgusting hairs in the sink for someone else to see and clean is disrespectful. I'd say the same to you if it was your pubes.

PeaceBreaksOut · 11/11/2023 14:49

I'm genuinely baffled by the sock thing. Do you carry a small portable vacuum cleaner behind you to clean the carpet with each step? And where are you meant to hang damp towels if not on the towel rail?

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:50

It’s ok now. I’m taking myself off to McDonalds drive through in his car and I’m going to leave my rubbish in it afterwards, and my empty cup in the cup holder.

Then he will understand.

Display towels?!

ChimneyPot · 11/11/2023 14:51

On the hug, not if he is unwell. You don’t want his germs.

Skyisbluegrassisgreen · 11/11/2023 14:52

I was particularly impressed by him trouble for sitting in the bed without smoothing the covers after!!

holidaywin · 11/11/2023 14:53

Wtf are display towels?

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:54

I am not normally quite so bad…but literally two minutes after cleaning? Come on…let me have a couple of hours of appreciating the nice clean house.

They are the towels that always look nice because they aren’t used. They make the bathroom look pretty. 🤷‍♀️

OneTC · 11/11/2023 14:54

Yeah you lost me at display towels

RoseRows · 11/11/2023 14:55

The hair in the sink would bug me but cut him some slack if he normally pulls his weight

I applaud your pettiness Grin
