Husband ill, but messing up house

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:27

Husband is poorly. A bad cold. Temperature. Sinuses all stuffed up. Headache etc. I leave him on the sofa and clean the house without him today, letting him rest.

I finish cleaning and he decided to get showered and dressed. Decides to shave in the freshly cleaned bathroom getting hairs everywhere. Doesn’t since the soap suds off the bath screen so the bubbles are drying to the glass.

Comes upstairs, sits on the bed to put his socks on. Doesn’t straighten up the bed and then walks across the carpet leaving tiny black bits of old sock.

Goes into en-suite and brushes his teeth, getting toothpaste spit droplets all over the mirror and shower door. Leave wet towel hanging over my display white towels.

Now I feel really angry. Took me ages on my day off to do all of the cleaning by myself. I work full time so value the weekends and am pissed off that I’m now cleaning up after him.

DH says - the house is to be lives in. Then tries to hug me.

Who’s being unreasonable?

Tell him next week it's his turn

NutellaRose · 12/11/2023 19:18

WTF are 'display towels'? Is your bathroom open to the general public or something?

crumblingschools · 12/11/2023 19:20

@Aortic I think in a number of cases like the OP, it is more the woman is obsessive about cleaning, as demonstrated by display towels and washing the actual towels after one use. OP says her husband does normally do half the chores, but I assume he adopts a more normal level of cleanliness

SALWARP2023 · 12/11/2023 19:21

His home too. Maybe you doing the cleaning annoyed him when he felt ill.

Are you quite well, @Fireal ? Your posts are honestly bizarre.

Quite well. Your bar for bizarre must be pretty low because most of my posts are in the property forum and I can’t say I’m particularly prolific really

Lollipopsicle · 12/11/2023 20:31

Had a good chuckle at this. 👍🤣

Morgysmum · 12/11/2023 21:56

I am guessing you don't have kids. This normally happens after you tidy a house with kids, I only have one and a half kids, mine and the Mil's (who acts like a kid) if I am lucky I get a tidy house for 10 minutes. Till he is back from college, till the bag gets dumped and clothes follow suit.
The big one does tidy, he cleans the toilet sink and bath, but not clean the floor or the bathroom tiles, yes they don't need it every week, but one a month could be nice, but these get left for me. He will sweep the floor, but not do the dusting, he is taller than me, but leaves the ceiling to the shortest person in the house.

They are the towels that always look nice because they aren’t used. They make the bathroom look pretty. 🤷‍♀️

Jesus Christ

  1. never heard of display towels
  2. assuming you don’t have kids, if/when they come along you will have the shock of your life

I’ve got kids (both of whom have multiple significant needs) - I still have ‘display’ towels.

Who are you displaying them to? Does anyone ever notice them?

BarelyCoping123 · 13/11/2023 00:17

"Man does normal everyday things in the house he lives in" shocker

crumblingschools · 13/11/2023 00:20

Also if you wash your towels after single use why do you need display towels, surely you always have clean towels hanging up?

BeetleDeuce · 11/11/2023 14:47

YABU to have “display towels”

This!

And cream carpets

Chillax

CallieQ · 13/11/2023 00:56

Perhaps put your display towels in a display case?!

Harls1969 · 13/11/2023 00:57

I didn't know that people had display towels

Gowlett · 13/11/2023 01:02

My DH is sick too, I’ve asked him to stick to his own bedroom / bathroom. At least he’s cleaning up the kitchen.

Winnipeg23 · 13/11/2023 02:00

Nothing wrong with display towels.
Who sees them? She sees them and likes the feeling of living in a nice, clean beautiful home, I imagine.
Having a clean and tidy home will help her feel calm and that everything is done and sorted and under control, before she starts her busy working week again.
I hear you OP.

Cottagewitch · 12/11/2023 18:49

Ha. I knew a woman who used to get annoyed at her husband for walking on the carpet as he messed up the straight lines she hoovered into it. He said ‘well unless you get some ropes hanging from the ceiling so I can swing across the room I’m going to have to walk on the carpet’

😂😂😂

Underthebridgeinaforeignland · 13/11/2023 05:59

i assume you don’t have kids? Boy are you in for a shock if that ever happens 😂!!!!!!

Fran1769 · 13/11/2023 09:35

You’re both right
A house is to be lived in
Hes an adult and needs to clean up after himself
Lesson - don’t sweat the small stuff as cleaning is and always will be never ending

HappyMe6 · 13/11/2023 09:42

Display towel in the bathroom, not to be used you know just to look pretty ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

crumblingschools · 13/11/2023 10:40

Do you have to have a display toilet too?

LismoreLady · 13/11/2023 17:35

If you don’t want people’s honest opinion why do you even ask AIBU? You only want people to agree with you or you get defensive. That’s not necessary.

Angela Lansbury Popcorn GIF

This poster is delusional - display towels! I can’t wait till kids or pets come into her Stepford Wifey home! 🤣
