Husband ill, but messing up house

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:27

Husband is poorly. A bad cold. Temperature. Sinuses all stuffed up. Headache etc. I leave him on the sofa and clean the house without him today, letting him rest.

I finish cleaning and he decided to get showered and dressed. Decides to shave in the freshly cleaned bathroom getting hairs everywhere. Doesn’t since the soap suds off the bath screen so the bubbles are drying to the glass.

Comes upstairs, sits on the bed to put his socks on. Doesn’t straighten up the bed and then walks across the carpet leaving tiny black bits of old sock.

Goes into en-suite and brushes his teeth, getting toothpaste spit droplets all over the mirror and shower door. Leave wet towel hanging over my display white towels.

Now I feel really angry. Took me ages on my day off to do all of the cleaning by myself. I work full time so value the weekends and am pissed off that I’m now cleaning up after him.

DH says - the house is to be lives in. Then tries to hug me.

Who’s being unreasonable?

Yeah, it's pretty thoughtless!

Devilsmommy · 11/11/2023 14:58

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:50

It’s ok now. I’m taking myself off to McDonalds drive through in his car and I’m going to leave my rubbish in it afterwards, and my empty cup in the cup holder.

Then he will understand.

Bit petty. Yabu having OCD yet choosing to have cream carpets

dylanschicken · 11/11/2023 14:58

You sound utterly batshit and precious tbh

Hung towels on your 'show towels'

Didn't straighten the bed after sitting on it!!

Etc

Ok maybe he should rinse the sink:shower but ffs you must be on edge constantly being bothered by people using their house to live in

I would be exhausted being so intense. Relax.

Homewardbound2022 · 11/11/2023 14:59

The sheer audacity!

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 15:03

I’m not constantly on edge…only when I’ve literally just finished cleaning two minutes ago. I just want people to look after it for a bit. Mess it up tomorrow.

He is right. The house is for living in.

Who actually see the bathroom and says 'nice rack of towels'?
And where do the non-display towels go? Or do you shake like dogs? Maybe that's the problem, right there, not allowed to use the towels!

TedMullins · 11/11/2023 15:04

Display towels are way more unreasonable than hairs in the sink

Luxell934 · 11/11/2023 15:06

The last thing I'd want if I was ill is someone trailing after me telling me to tidy up after myself. I'd tell them to F off, it's my house too.

TravelInHope · 11/11/2023 15:06

What a bastard. Time to change the locks and dump his stuff on the front drive. See a solicitor, and secure your finances. You deserve so much better than this.

IhearyouClemFandango · 11/11/2023 15:08

The shaving bits and toothpaste drops, fair enough.

But getting angry cause he sat on the bed, his socks left some fluff and he hung his towel over your 'show towels'?!

Is he never supposed to walk around in his socks?

TravelInHope · 11/11/2023 15:09

Then he will understand.

And probably not care. The bastard.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/11/2023 15:12

I'm going to very gently say that you might be a wee bit unreasonable, OP. I know how lovely it is to have a clean and tidy house (I live alone) and how annoying it is when that doesn't last (I have a filthy little dog), but really, in the grand scheme of things, this too shall pass.

But I am slightly worried that my bathroom doesn't look 'nice' because I don't have show towels...

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 15:14

We’re good. We’ve had a laugh over some of the responses and he’s had his hug. Although I am still winning by 1% 😉

and I stand by my towels! I thought everyone had them to be honest 😂 thought it was a thing.

Display towels? Wtf?

honeylulu · 11/11/2023 15:26

It's a bit annoying when you've just cleaned and tidied and someone starts making mess straight away. For me it's usually my kids who do it.

But if you've got OCD then cream carpets are a really bad idea, just why? And white display towels ... I have no words. Why pointless extra clutter to get damp and dirty? Mind you I'm someone who can't see the point of cushions either. They look like clutter and mess to me!

chillin12 · 11/11/2023 15:34

ChimneyPot · 11/11/2023 14:51

On the hug, not if he is unwell. You don’t want his germs.

Lmaoooo

Createausername1970 · 11/11/2023 15:37

Is anyone old enough to think Margo saying to Jerry, "don't put that rubbish in the bin, I have just emptied it"

OP, I do get that you have just spend a lot of time tidying up, but as house is a home, its going to get muzzed up sooner rather than later anyway, so I can understand your annoyance, but I still think you are BU.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 11/11/2023 15:42

OP, do you genuinely have OCD that you are being treated for or do you mean that you are just unreasonably fussy and hard to live with? And no, everyone does not have display towels. I am old and I don't know, and have never known, anyone who has display towels, not even amongst the most ridiculously fussy of my friends and family. I'm relieved for both of you that you're laughing about it today but honestly, have a think about it.

justasking111 · 11/11/2023 15:43

Mine leaves snotty kitchen towel squares everywhere. Now that the puppy has arrived she grabs them off the bedside table, his armchair and shreds them, which really annoys him 🙄

I tell my OH that I've cleaned the bathroom and dare him to make a mess ggrrr

Readingineading · 11/11/2023 15:46

The shaving stubble would annoy me. DH hasn't ever done that, he cleans up after himself and DS was marched back into the bathroom to clean it up a couple of times after he started shaving.
I do understand being pissed off BUT Id let the rest go if he is usually doing the cleaning with you.

minipie · 11/11/2023 16:01

I missed the display towels Confused Hmm

Cherrysherbet · 11/11/2023 16:05

You lost me at “display white towels” 🤔

Fireal · 11/11/2023 16:09

I’m with you OP! Unfortunately I do think we are both unreasonable for being perfectionists but I do think the problem with not being the one doing the job is you’ll happily undo it (not smoothing the bed), whereas if you’re the one who’s done it, you make the effort to keep it nice.

I will say though that there is nothing worse than an ill husband, and your comment about him needing a bath to ‘ease his aches’ made me want to murder him on your behalf

StarlightLime · 11/11/2023 16:12

SkyFullofStars1975 · 11/11/2023 14:31

When DH is ill, he gets told to use one room and one bathroom. That way, he can make all the mess he likes and then gets to deal with it afterwards.

I'd be furious if I'd spent ages cleaning, and he'd done that it. Why didn't he use it before you cleaned...

Banished to one room because he's ill?? More fool him if he allows you to "tell" him any such thing.

Do you really have towels for display only because you thought it was a thing? How utterly bizarre that sounds.
