Husband ill, but messing up house

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:27

Husband is poorly. A bad cold. Temperature. Sinuses all stuffed up. Headache etc. I leave him on the sofa and clean the house without him today, letting him rest.

I finish cleaning and he decided to get showered and dressed. Decides to shave in the freshly cleaned bathroom getting hairs everywhere. Doesn’t since the soap suds off the bath screen so the bubbles are drying to the glass.

Comes upstairs, sits on the bed to put his socks on. Doesn’t straighten up the bed and then walks across the carpet leaving tiny black bits of old sock.

Goes into en-suite and brushes his teeth, getting toothpaste spit droplets all over the mirror and shower door. Leave wet towel hanging over my display white towels.

Now I feel really angry. Took me ages on my day off to do all of the cleaning by myself. I work full time so value the weekends and am pissed off that I’m now cleaning up after him.

DH says - the house is to be lives in. Then tries to hug me.

Who’s being unreasonable?

maybe you could get a display husband.

"Display white towels"???|

WTF???

Inca22 · 11/11/2023 19:33

Op. I'm your twin. I would have been so upset too! And if you spend hours cleaning, it's only polite that people try and maintain its cleanliness for as long as they can. And that's not minutes!

Itsmehi222 · 11/11/2023 19:34

God, give him the day off 😂

ChuckMater · 11/11/2023 19:35

Yabu for having display towels?! I mean wtf

crumblingschools · 11/11/2023 19:35

Why am I not surprised you wash towels every day (what a waste)

crumblingschools · 11/11/2023 19:36

@Inca22 so can people not use the toilet if they need it, if it has recently been cleaned?

Branster · 11/11/2023 19:40

Why these: 'my' towel display, 'my' carpet etc etc?

Is your DH some sort of inanimate decorative item and not supposed to live in the home?

EmmaEmerald · 11/11/2023 19:40

crumblingschools · 11/11/2023 19:35

I was sympathetic till this

even if I had room for all this, I wouldn't do it unless there were overnight guests coming.

Evaka · 11/11/2023 19:43

Yikes. I don't think I'd notice or be bothered by any of this. I'd take a happy relationship and fun with OH over a pretty bathroom any day.

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 19:59

Wow. People are getting pretty horrible over my display towels. I feel like I’ve done something akin to cheating at this point. It’s just soft furnishing for the bathroom fgs and it doesn’t hurt anyone. We all live differently and I’m not going to judge anyone who does things a bit differently to me.

I spent a long time scrubbing this morning and was disappointed my husband didn’t clean up after himself for a little bit, just to keep OUR home nice for a few hours. We fell out (lighthearted) for half an hour untilI let it go and we’ve had a nice day, especially considering he’s poorly.

Anyway, thank you to those posters who:

  1. supported me and made me feel a little justified in being p’d off
  2. told me that I was unreasonable and I needed to lighten up and let it go, because perhaps I needed that too
but really, posting rude remarks over towels is unnecessary so, thank you all, but I’m out.

Awww same boat here hubby been ill for a few days but I've let it go because usually he isn't messy

theunbelievabletruth · 11/11/2023 20:07

I'm actually in awe of 'display towels' .. but can I just ask where the ones for drying yourself with live ? Are they underneath or hidden in a cupboard ? ..

... I live v rurally and would love 'display towels' .. neighbours would definitely come round for a viewing.. I call it a good day when there isn't half a narrow load of leaves and mud in the hall..

I call for a photo of said towels because I would definitely admire them, seeing as DD3 has just got out the shower and asked 'is this the towel you dried that sheep with ? ... (it wasn't - cheeky cow)

Inca22 · 11/11/2023 20:14

@crumblingschools of course they can. Such a goody question. I don't have display towels but don't be so disrespectful to leave a mess and do nothing about it - directly after me, and only me has spent the day cleaning.

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 11/11/2023 20:37

How messy is he when he brushes his teeth?!

The hairs and the spit are the only issues.

Bed covers - non issue

Socks - non issue

Towel on your 'display white towels' - wtf? Where's he meant to dry his towel?
M if he usually does half of the cleaning, unclench.

Yabu

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 11/11/2023 20:43

@Fireal - I will say though that there is nothing worse than an ill husband, and your comment about him needing a bath to ‘ease his aches’ made me want to murder him on your behalf

This is actually really horrible. What a vile comment to make. Having a bath to ease muscle aches is perfectly normal. But you sound like a psycho - wanting to murder a man you have never met for wanting to do a perfectly reasonable thing?

Imagine if someone said the same about a woman - they'd be handed their arse.

BrontëParsonage · 11/11/2023 20:45

alexdgr8 · 11/11/2023 18:55

maybe you could get a display husband.

I’m a totally lone (female) parent but from all the horror stories I read on MN about men who are unable (or unwilling) to function as an equal human being in their relationships, this actually sounds like the best sort of husband to be shackled to. A bit like the stunt pineapples that wealthy Victorians used to have on their festive tables.

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 11/11/2023 20:46

@2jacqi - my house, my rules!

You sound bonkers! And controlling! Isn't it your h's house too!

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 11/11/2023 20:49

@Mumof118 - DS and I use towels one time only really, so straight from airing cupboard to wash basket.

There's no need for this. It's awful for the environment.

wellerhugs5 · 11/11/2023 20:52

Mine does this when he's NOT feeling ill. If it's not the norm, I'd bite my tongue.

nopenotplaying · 11/11/2023 20:52

Display towels 🤣🤣🤣🤣

cestlavielife · 11/11/2023 20:54

Mumof118 · 11/11/2023 14:54

They are the towels that always look nice because they aren’t used. They make the bathroom look pretty. 🤷‍♀️

Why? Why?
Is it like excess of display cushions on a bed?

nopenotplaying · 11/11/2023 20:58

Actually I now feel unfair for laughing at the display towels...I remembered I have display soap. At Christmas. Imperial leather but you are not alllowed to use it until Christmas Day. Other liquid hand soap is available I. The interim 🤣🤣

sparklefresh · 11/11/2023 21:02

YABU, wasteful, and controlling.
