DH and his fucking chilli

Humpfree · 04/11/2023 20:47

DH smothers everything in chilli, even though he can’t handle spicy food himself. Everytime he makes chicken it’s smothered in chilli and ends up where neither of us can eat it. He does it every fucking time!!!

Tonight he decided to randomly make some roast potatoes as a snack 🫤 to said I didn’t want any and he got all l offended so I said if you make cheesy potatoes I’ll eat them … so that’s what he did. He’s spent over an hour and a half making these fucking things … they smelt nice, all covered in melted cheese - lovely! Except when I bit into one my mouth was suddenly on fire. Yep, he’s smothered then in chilli. We now have a full bowl of cheesy potatoes sat there that neither of us can eat. I ask why he does this and he doesn’t answer me! I think it’s so weird. It would be different if he loved spicy food but he can’t tolerate it any better than I can!

what a waste

He does it to prove how manly he is.
'Look how hard I am eating these super hot chilli's'

But then it backfires because he's not manly enough 🤣

Ostryga · 04/11/2023 21:18

If someone made cheesy potatoes and hid scotch bonnets in them I think I’d have to kill them in all honesty.

Can you just say if you EVER put chilli in anything I’m going to eat I will see a solicitor and divorce you immediately. This must drive you mad!

SurprisedWithAHorse · 04/11/2023 21:18

Scotch Bonnet! Is he insane??

Have you asked him why he does this? Is he not very confident in cooking/not very refined in his palette and doesn't know any other way to add flavour?

Mumaway · 04/11/2023 21:20

This is a genius solution. Surely being fed the same shit spicy food over and over again has got to get through his thick skull??

QuickDraining · 04/11/2023 21:20

Just get 'normal' chillies, and use one between two people. I have to have them in every dish. Or get sauces, and use as condiments. A bit mixed up with ketchup is quite nice.

I accidentally put one of the hottest chillies in the world in the dinner. Lesson learned.

CaravaggiosCat · 04/11/2023 21:22

Sounds like he's trying to to control your food intake.
Has he ever said anything about your eating habits or weight or has he got his own body issues?

Jetstream · 04/11/2023 21:23

Hey OP, do you have some sour cream or natural yogurt in the house? If you do make a side dip to lessen the sting from the chilli.

Froodwithatowel · 04/11/2023 21:23

I'd be constantly checking for and binning every chili that crossed the threshold. Daily if necessary, ensure he can never put his hand on one. And blaming the house elf.

Wanttobekind · 04/11/2023 21:23

Ok, that is definitely not normal. My 3 year old looks confused and doesn’t know why she did something stupid repeatedly but he’s a grown man wasting food.

DarkDarkNight · 04/11/2023 21:25

Is it a weird macho thing like ordering a Vindaloo when you really can only handle a Korma? Other than that is it a chef thing he’s picked up? It sounds stupid and wasteful.

CaravaggiosCat · 04/11/2023 21:26

I only asked because I know someone's whose OH 'accidentally' ruins meals so they're inedible.

Yep, always have natural yogurt in due to Dhs cooking and chilli obsession

it’s annoying because he’s a great cook when he wants to be, he made a gorgeous beef casserole last week with no chilli

I’m so confused by why he does it. If it was a one off I’d say he just misjudged it but he does it weekly

he’s not trying to get me to eat less or anything like that, if anything he’s a feeder!

Get in the kitchen now and hide the chilli pot somewhere he won’t look 🤣

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 04/11/2023 21:27

Scotch bonnets are lethal.

My dh insists on doing the cooking and I admit, it makes me anxious due to his habit of doing incredibly stupid things with ingredients.

But this is a whole nother level of batshittery.

I don't think that I could even joke about this.

Why on earth do you let him near food?!

MCOut · 04/11/2023 21:29

😂 He’s an idiot OP. Tell him he can’t force it on you and he needs to start with small quantities of milder chillis and work his way up.

Well I can’t stop him cooking stuff but I do 99% of the meals. He likes to do a BBQ once a fortnight - quite funny at the minute seeing him stood outside in the pissing rain with his winter fleece on 😂 this is another odd habit of his - BBQ obsessions, even if the depths of winter

I'd be so furious about this. It's just disgusting to deliberately spoil and waste food when so many people are reliant on food banks. Why is he such a twat?

Devilsmommy · 04/11/2023 21:34

TicTacNicNak · 04/11/2023 20:56

Rub the chillis on the inside of his underpants. When he complains you can say you're following his lead and smothering everything in chilli.

Oh my god, please please do this🤣🤣🤣

He sounds spectacularly thick.

As I was reading the OP, I was thinking this bloke is as thick as mince.

daisychain01 · 04/11/2023 21:39

How long have you been together and has he always been dim as a toc-h lamp?

azlazee1 · 04/11/2023 21:40

Sounds like he enjoys your reaction to the chili.

SpongeBobSquarePantaloons · 04/11/2023 21:40

OP, I'm being serious. Bin the chillis. Every time he buys them. It's less wasteful than having to bin your entire dinner.
