A carrot is NOT a suitable vegetable

Please settle an argument for me.

DH and I are both trying to improve our diets on the run up to Christmas, cutting down on booze, making food swaps etc.

This evening he has sat down in front of the television with a carrot instead of a bag of crisps. I know, I should be praising him right?

It’s just that I can’t forget my mother telling me that carrots are high in sugar and therefore not a diet food.
They also have suggestive connotations due to their phallic shape and I think if he is going to insist upon eating carrots he could at least cut them up so that they resemble something less crude.

He’s told me I’m barking mad.

But am I?

I really have read it all on here now

This, the simple joys of doing suggestive things with the carrots while putting the shopping away.

To get them out you just give them a bit of a pull and yank it out don't you? Just pull the heads a bit

Nows · 22/10/2023 10:12

My Ds once won a fancy dress competition dressed as a carrot. A Christmas carrot at that. < misses point>

They're delicious thinly sliced, deep fried and sprinkled with salt.

Carrot crisps - best of both worlds.

MrsFloraPoste · 22/10/2023 10:19

Gosh there are a lot of interesting responses on here. I promise I’m not a troll!

I’m glad some posters have agreed that carrots are high in sugar. FWIW my mother also said people on diets shouldn’t eat fruit.

I am not the only one who thinks eating a whole carrot is unnecessarily suggestive though am I?
When I was in my twenties I made the unfortunate error of consuming a banana in an open plan office. I just don’t know how others do it so shamelessly.

Comments about aubergines (or eggplants) are quite frankly just silly. Nobody eats a whole raw aubergine.

They have a bit of natural sugar in but are not high in sugar- the majority of most vegetables and fruits is water. Fruit are great to eat on a diet too- especially lower calorie ones.

What matters is the overall amount of calories eaten in the day/week. Eating low energy density foods such as fruit and veg helps people stick to the reduced calories necessary for weight loss.

did a few people get confused and inadvertently click YANBU as the option here?

How could an OP complaining that carrots aren’t a diet food and their phallic shape is unseemly in the living room be anything but unreasonable?

I can’t imagine why anyone would want eat carrots bugs bunny style in front of the tv. But there’s no harm in it at all.

I eat whole carrots and know many who do (in my home country though) . If you eat the outside you are left with lovely sweet middle at the end.
It's a good snack. Portable, durable, no mess.

If you grate carrot, apple and mix it with bit of sugar and lemon juice it's a 5*snack

You seem to have the mental age of a teenage boy. I manage to eat carrots and bananas without thinking about a penis 😂😅🤣

bclspia · 22/10/2023 10:37

I once saw someone eat a whole raw cucumber, that would have tipped you over the edge OP 😂

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/10/2023 21:56

What you want is a turnip.

This made me laugh out loud

porridgeisbae · 22/10/2023 10:40

Better to buy carrots or any other fruit/veg of choice if you're going to eat them because they taste ok, than buy masses of leaves or celery and it just goes off in the fridge because you don't touch it because it's grim, and end up still eating crisps instead. I mean, crisps are ok too in small doses as part of a balanced or, if required, calorie controlled diet. That's the important bit.

You won't get any doctor or dietician telling someone to avoid carrots on a diet, that's for sure, and probably wouldn't tell anyone to avoid any low cal fruit and veg. Carrot is still low calorie at 41 cals per 100g.

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 22/10/2023 10:40

At least it wasn't a cucumber?

IncompleteSenten · 22/10/2023 10:53

Yup. You're bonkers.

AdoraBell · 22/10/2023 10:59

Your DM is being reasonable about the diet food and YABU about the carrot being crude. Not everyone thinks everything cylindrical is a phallic symbol.

DRS1970 · 22/10/2023 11:04

Good job he didn't decide to eat a cucumber - due to the phallic connotations...

Hedgehogtunnel · 22/10/2023 11:06

🍆🍌🥒🥕🍑🍇

maddiemookins16mum · 22/10/2023 11:16

Did he peel it?

Scalottia · 22/10/2023 11:18

Fucking hell OP, with all due respect - get a life.

Burnoutwhat · 22/10/2023 11:20

Totally mad. This can't be real.

BitofaStramash · 22/10/2023 11:21

You are mad

Miriam101 · 22/10/2023 11:22

i cannot believe you are for real OP. I do not know how anyone over the age of of 15 could could think that eating a banana was “suggestive”

FebruaryOnMyMind · 22/10/2023 11:23

Are you a teenage boy @MrsFloraPoste ?

Thebigblueballoon · 22/10/2023 11:27

Good lord. You need to shield yourself from all those evil sexy carrots, OP.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 22/10/2023 11:30

If you are not a troll, you are beyond help.

<fondly remembers thread where someone said M&Ms were healthier than potatoes>

Ahhh just like the one where a full English breakfast was healthier than a banana. Happy days.
