A carrot is NOT a suitable vegetable

Please settle an argument for me.

DH and I are both trying to improve our diets on the run up to Christmas, cutting down on booze, making food swaps etc.

This evening he has sat down in front of the television with a carrot instead of a bag of crisps. I know, I should be praising him right?

It’s just that I can’t forget my mother telling me that carrots are high in sugar and therefore not a diet food.
They also have suggestive connotations due to their phallic shape and I think if he is going to insist upon eating carrots he could at least cut them up so that they resemble something less crude.

He’s told me I’m barking mad.

But am I?

What you want is a turnip.

Shaped like a thingy?

TawnyLarue · 21/10/2023 23:21

Are you the poster who said a ham sandwich was a treat in your house?

labamba007 · 21/10/2023 23:22

Phallic carrots is now in my top 10 mumsnet posts - thank you OP, I needed that laugh 😂

Fifthtimelucky · 21/10/2023 23:34

When I was pregnant I used to feel sick if I didn't eat regularly. I used to sit in meetings at work munching through whole carrots.

Perhaps I was naive but it never once occurred to me that I should cut them up because the shape had "suggestive connotations"!

Goldbar31 · 21/10/2023 23:35

Yabu.

I only eat phallic shaped veg x

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/10/2023 23:35

What the fuck?

WeAreBorg · 21/10/2023 23:38

Has he eaten carrots in front of other women OP? Sounds like he has done this before - sorry. I would eat an entire raw aubergine in front of him whilst maintaining constant eye contact and see how he likes it!

You are of course not being unreasonable

pinkyredrose · 22/10/2023 00:03

Well he's eating it not sticking it up his arse, he's obviously learning how to incorporate carrots into his daily life so leave the poor fella alone i say.

Floopyfloop · 22/10/2023 00:17

Christ on a carroty shaped bike!!

Carrots are a bit tricky if you and your husband are both horses. If you are humans then a carrot is pretty good for you.

Don't know why but this has really ticked me. You are nuts OP

I haven't had a sugar mouse in years! My mum used to get them from BHS, and put them in our Christmas stockings, and now I feel all nostalgic.

Deadringer · 22/10/2023 00:22

He is clearly secretly gay. My sympathies op.

Ormonde · 22/10/2023 00:25

Carrots are high in carbs and are as unhealthy as potatoes and other root veg. But you’re a nutter if you think a carrot is phallic and you don’t like him eating foods that shape! Unless he’s simulating fellatio on it then YABU!

WellIdontknowwhattocallmyself · 22/10/2023 00:25

He could’ve done carrot sticks or whatever and humous but it’s unsustainable to eat a carrot just as it is that will get tedious

ScottBakula · 22/10/2023 00:28

I'm just going to leave This here purely for research purposes of course

It takes longer to eat a raw carrot than a bag of crisps so it’s more satisfying.

But @MrsFloraPoste seems to be suggesting that it is the "satisfaction ' her DH wants .

Lookingatthesunset · 22/10/2023 00:35

Are you drunk???

joelmillersbackpack · 22/10/2023 00:36

I go to weightWatchers and carrots are a zero points food along with peas, beans, salad foods, onions, leeks, brassicas etc.

But I thought peas were “literal bombs of sugar”?

(Or was that grapes? I can’t keep up with MN food batshittery)

Potatoes and root veg are not bloody unhealthy, unless you deep fry them.

dontgobaconmyheart · 22/10/2023 00:43

If my DP commented about something I'm eating being phallic I'd think he was childish and would find it annoying to be quite honest. It's hardly high calibre chat for a couple of adults of an evening IMO, but each household to their own!

A carrot is a far better choice than crisps so good for your DP if he wants to sit and eat one. I'd just not comment at all on what someone else is eating, particularly someone dieting.

Humblebottomous · 22/10/2023 01:01

Unless there’s a backstory re the sexual issues, yep YABU.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/10/2023 01:10

Are you barking?

Yes. Yes you are.

Are you right about the sugar thing, well yes to a point but there is less carbs in a carrot than a bag of crisps, its heart healthier and cheaper too. However, if you are low carbing, cucumber sticks would be better. Although obviously from the MN point of view, him walking in deep throating a cucumber and you posting your reaction on here, would be fucking hilarious!
