A carrot is NOT a suitable vegetable

Please settle an argument for me.

DH and I are both trying to improve our diets on the run up to Christmas, cutting down on booze, making food swaps etc.

This evening he has sat down in front of the television with a carrot instead of a bag of crisps. I know, I should be praising him right?

It’s just that I can’t forget my mother telling me that carrots are high in sugar and therefore not a diet food.
They also have suggestive connotations due to their phallic shape and I think if he is going to insist upon eating carrots he could at least cut them up so that they resemble something less crude.

He’s told me I’m barking mad.

But am I?

Yes.

WandaWonder · 22/10/2023 05:04

I have not trusted them since they had a go at lettuce and make the tomato cry, I think they are also cheating on cucumber with a marrow but not sure I should say something to the babysitter onion

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/10/2023 05:17

Only on MN would raw carrots be considered an unhealthy snack!

KickHimInTheCrotch · 22/10/2023 06:15

I eat whole carrots at my desk at work. Never imagined my colleagues would see this as phallic.

LOL! 👏BRAVO!!👏
I wouldn't complain unless they take their sordid behavior into the mush-room. Luckily, the crouton is keeping on top of it all. Of course, I am not being celery-ious.

OP--I do have to say, what vegetable would be okay for your DH to munch on? An eggplant? Onion? smdh I am glad you saw how bat-shite crazy you were being. This certainly does not deserve to be in the classics since it sounds so staged.

Itsgottobeme · 22/10/2023 06:51

your mother too sadly has been brainwashed with toxic diet culture.
for one you dont need "diet" foods. they are marketed to make money off you nothing more.
sugar is not the devil
it certainly is not worth even considering when eating vegetables!
you are going to do way worse to your husband relationship with food if you carry on like this.way worse than any crisps or food ever could

JustKen · 22/10/2023 06:57

I find carrots easier to hold & eat if they are whole. 😊 Also I'm too lazy to chop them up.

Yabu.

MyCircumference · 22/10/2023 07:00

too many carrots turn your skin orange

chaosmaker · 22/10/2023 07:10

@MrsFloraPoste Maybe do some food research and stop being barking mad?

No longer crude but a crudite

OLE!

What the actual fuck? When I saw the title I thought “bet this is to do with a man”. There’s literally nothing you can’t bash a guy for on this site.
FWIW my husband eats carrots as snacks all the time. I’ll be sure to berate him next time and hand him a mars bar.

AllegroConMoto · 21/10/2023 22:00

Is this the carrot he was eating, OP?

Showing my age here, but that would have been on "That's Life!" back in the day and Esther Rantzen would have been thrilled 😂

CurlewKate · 22/10/2023 07:34

Barking mad. But I did laugh. Suggest a cucumber instead? Another barking mad friend of mine insists that cucumbers contain all the vitamins a human needs. And also that they get rid of cellulite if you run them on....

LuciaPillson · 22/10/2023 07:35

My hubby eats carrots, they're sweet and they're horrid,
He sucks on a whole one, so filthy and torrid.
I can't watch the telly 'cos I'm so distracted,
What are these new feelings [graphic parts redacted]?
It's all made of sugar! Erect and so proud!
Oh Mumsnet, oh Mumsnet - how IS this allowed?

The fact they are phallus-like is an additional Boner, sorry bonus, to you being able to see in the dark. 🏆

This, the simple joys of doing suggestive things with the carrots while putting the shopping away.

Melodysmum12 · 22/10/2023 07:44

You need to get a grip! Raw carrots are so good for you!!

Warum · 22/10/2023 07:48

Stop calling things 'diet foods', just make healthier choices.
A carrot is a healthier choice than crisps (though a dietitian once told me that carrots are one of the veg that are actually more nutritious cooked than raw).

IncomingTraffic · 22/10/2023 07:49

did a few people get confused and inadvertently click YANBU as the option here?

How could an OP complaining that carrots aren’t a diet food and their phallic shape is unseemly in the living room be anything but unreasonable?

I can’t imagine why anyone would want eat carrots bugs bunny style in front of the tv. But there’s no harm in it at all.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 22/10/2023 07:50

Are you sure you cut down on the booze? If you have, then I suggest therapy. I am the first to admit I can have a crude sense of humour and a lack of maturity at times, but even I wouldn't make such a song and dance about a man eating a carrot.

Hibiscrubbed · 22/10/2023 08:06

MrsFloraPoste · 21/10/2023 22:20

Deep breath…
Ok. I can see that I was perhaps unfair to him. I have apologised.
Carrots are obviously better than crisps.
It does seem a bit odd having to watch him eat whole ones though. Perhaps that says more about me than it does about him.

You’re insane.

Carrots are healthy. Crisps are not. Carrots are vegetables. Carrots are not peens.

HappyMavis · 22/10/2023 08:32

Someone's aiming for the Classics, right?

WeWereInParis · 22/10/2023 08:42

They also have suggestive connotations due to their phallic shape

😂😂

From your second post it doesn't seem like you were joking with this!

AfterWeights · 22/10/2023 08:57

They are not "full of sugar".

They are mostly water and raw carrots are great for digestion.

It’s fine, just save some cash by eating it afterwards.

😂😂😂

and yes OP, carrots are a great healthy snack! Most fruit and veg has sugar. They’re still significantly better than eating a bag of crisps!
