A carrot is NOT a suitable vegetable

Please settle an argument for me.

DH and I are both trying to improve our diets on the run up to Christmas, cutting down on booze, making food swaps etc.

This evening he has sat down in front of the television with a carrot instead of a bag of crisps. I know, I should be praising him right?

It’s just that I can’t forget my mother telling me that carrots are high in sugar and therefore not a diet food.
They also have suggestive connotations due to their phallic shape and I think if he is going to insist upon eating carrots he could at least cut them up so that they resemble something less crude.

He’s told me I’m barking mad.

I go to weightWatchers and carrots are a zero points food along with peas, beans, salad foods, onions, leeks, brassicas etc.

They are really low calorie.

If he's anything like me, that he can just grab them will mean he's more likely to eat them (rather than something else) than if he had to prepare them.

All root vegetables have natural sugars but I'd imagine they're a healthier bet for a sofa snack than a chocolate bar or a Magnum.

Eh? Even if a carrot is full of sugar it's going to be a naturally occuring one, crisps on the other hand are made from manky (usually green or rotten ones) potatoes and full of salt...

We had this same argument at work.
One person insisted carrots were higher in sugar than other vegetables, so should be avoided. I googled it and sure enough there is some truth in that.

It also has a lot of fibre, so if eating it whole rather than juicing it, I wouldn't worry.

I don't know what is wrong with my carrot 🥕 growing but they nearly always come out like that. Going to use a different seed brand next year. I think I've been buying joke ones.

Anyway OP you are definitely ridiculous.

It takes longer to eat a raw carrot than a bag of crisps so it’s more satisfying.
