AIBU to be sickened by what Hamas terrorists have done to innocent Israeli citizens?

I am not totally familiar with the whole Israeli - Palestinian situation. I don’t think anything political can explain what has happened over the last few days.

It is utterly horrendous what Hamas has done. I also think that Hamas are no friend to the Palestinians. They are bringing wrath on them.

I have read that this is the worst attack on innocent Jewish people since the holocaust, which is horrifying.

I am struggling to process these recent events.

If you are going to talk about what Hamas have done to innocent Israeli citizens, there needs to be a recognition of what Israel have done to innocent Palestinian citizens. Don’t try and paint the conflict as if it just started with a bunch of terrorists deciding to attack civilians.

Go and read the opinion of Israeli historians and moderates on what’s happening now and why.

There is no path to a future of safety and freedom for all Israelis and Palestinians without accountability for this fascist government and an end to the ongoing, untenable status quo of Israel’s apartheid system. Ifnotnow American Jews movement against the apartheid

There is so much antisemitism dressed up in whataboutery on these threads about Israel.

Hamas have committed utterly indecent, inhuman atrocities in crimes absolutely reminiscent of those perpetrated by other Islamist groups like ISIS.

There is no excuse. None.

Unfortunately antisemitism, like misogyny is still widely accepted by large swathes of society.

You should really familiarise yourself OP before posting. It’s an extremely complex and difficult situation. Of course it’s horrific and nobody would condone it, but you should educate yourself to the background and the ramifications.

Can you give an example of this? The only thing I’ve seen that is controversial to some is pointing out Israel’s actions and treatment of Gaza and Palestinian’s, which is not an antisemitic comment.

@Coffeerum in this context it is antisemitism to start "pointing out" other things. Nothing ever exists in a vacuum, you could start "pointing out" behaviours and actions in the case of any atrocity - but why wouldn't you just have pure empathy and sadness and be overwhelmed with horror at what's happened?

Israel have murdered thousands of Palestinians over decades. I'm not surprised they have eventually retaliated.

I have been following the news. I don’t blame the IDF for their reaction. I believe that as well as targeting Hamas terrorists they have tried to help Palestinian civilians too.

Nothing justifies the murder of babies. Hamas are a terrorist group and they have committed awful atrocities.

I feel for the Palestinian people who are now suffering even more as a result of this, but anyone condoning or trying to justify the attacks should be ashamed.

The Palestinians have not retaliated in this instance - it is an attack by Hamas terrorise who do not give two figs about Palestinian civilians?
