Young men hating women

Maatandosiris · 05/09/2023 16:52

Something I’ve been noticing is that young men (say under 30) are becoming increasingly misogynistic. Not in the old fashioned dirty old man way but very aggressively trying to take away women’s voices. Anything they can do to undermine you they will, whether it’s criticising politics, eating habits, looks, viewpoints. Any excuse to undermine women they jump on it (aided and abetted by some women I should add)

AIBU to wonder whether all the fighting for rights and equality has been pointless and young girls generally seem content to be treated like shit to the point I’m not sure many actually see the threat. How the hell did we get here? In the past week I’ve had a man gaslight me and try and undermine me in a discussion as a “rebel” for quoting the suffragettes, had a bunch of blokes gang up on me and chuck me off a forum for saying transrights need balancing with women’s rights followed by inaccurate allegations and ignored on a discussion simply because I was female. Not long ago I was told that the way to make things more female friendly was to make them less academic

We literally seem to be reverting back to women make yourself look pretty whilst listening to the views of the oh so intelligent men.

AIBU to think in20 years time women’s rights are going to dead unless women, inc young women start standing up to be counted.

I'm 100% woman BTW

Your behaviour has been called out for being vile plenty

And you are also a transphobe

Edited

Sure.

Yours has been called out for your vile misogyny.

And btw, women who defend womens rights are not 'transphobes', you femphobe. The fact you think women having human rights is 'transphobic', shows what a Meninist and woman hater you are.

Jackienory · 06/09/2023 14:04

Well to be honest if any young men accidentally read Mumsnet they would think all women hate men. There are some dreadful anti men opinions on Mumsnet.

I’d agree with that. And the women who attack such comments are the same ones posting vitriolic misandrist bile.

Maatandosiris · 06/09/2023 10:40

Oh I know plenty of men in the real world, like I said upthread most of my friends are male. I generally get on better with men. But naturally most are of a similar age to me. So I come across younger men mainly online through mutual interests. There I have noticed a big difference in attitudes depending on ages.

So the men who you know are not part of the thread topic.
The men the thread topic is about in age range, are only men you have met on line.
So your opinion is based on online interactions. I don't find online interactions to be a true reflection of a whole demographic of people.

I don't find what you talk of, I don't find young men to be any where as misogynistic as the 55 years + men I know, they need to be dragged kicking a screaming, all younger men than that I do find it all

Elmerchecks · 06/09/2023 14:21

Totally fed up of every discussion about men and women being hijacked by the trans lobby

Maatandosiris · 06/09/2023 14:58

But there’s a marked difference between young and older men online too.

LylaLee · 06/09/2023 15:09

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but there's a book 'Men who hate women ' which explores this topic.

Maatandosiris · 06/09/2023 15:10

Ooh I’ll look that up

Incel movement, mainly unattractive young men both physically and emotionally who want to return to a time when women had zero rights. Men like this have always existed but now they can find each other online. So X in the USA can chat to Y in the UK with Z in mainland Europe also chiming in about how awful women are. It means involuntary celibates. It’s one of the massive negatives of online life. It’s a dangerous movement that has been linked to murder it’s misogyny on steroids.

It’s not your regular sexism the sort of jokey women can’t drive very well shite that my now dead sexist FIL used to come out with, it’s a deep hatred. Just like there are some absolute man haters. I personally find I like or dislike people based on them as individuals, it’s not based on gender though I never wonder if a woman is going to rape or murder me if I’m walking somewhere alone and am approached. So I am more wary of men. That’s the problem the ones that are dangerous don’t walk about with a sign.

Downunderduchess · 06/09/2023 03:15

@CallumDansTransitVan In my experience it is overwhelmingly men being aggressive in their comments to me online. The disrespect they appear to have towards women is appalling.

Again online posts are not really representative of a cross setion of men. It will also depend on which forum you are on at the time. As several others have said. There is a higher than average posts here on Mumsnet that are contradictory about what is acceptable male behaviour or female.

Rewis
You will also have heard the way some Women talk about men when in a group.

Regarding the unisex toilets thing. Personally i'd rather see seperate facilities too. As it removes the opportunity of any false allegations and as such protects me as well.

Sueveneers
Misandry isn't a real thing? Why is there a word for it then? Most normal Men want exactly the same respect and rights as Women and vice versa.

yeahthisisit
The definition of misandry is an ingrained prejudice of men. There are sadly people out there that behave like that.

There is definately movement towards many of us losing regular social skills by doing so much of our social interactions online. This is particularly unhealthy for young people. I don't go out often, but the past few times I was suprised how quiet towns are on a weekend night and that how those out were generally aged 30 plus.
However, you cannot state a handfull of men on an internet forum out of the 4 billion on the planet as representative of all men. In the same way as out of the 4 billion women there are a small amount who hold uneasonable views of men.

We also have youngsters who were seperated from any physical interaction with their peers for nearly two years with covid. For young teenagers this is the time they should be learning about boundaries and acceptable behaviour with the opposite sex.

BeachHutCornwall · 06/09/2023 16:17

If you are talking about peoples behavior's online, i.e. forums - then it is not representative of society.
People do not behave how they do online - some of them are just frustrated pricks looking to vent

hylian · 06/09/2023 16:20

Maddy70 · 05/09/2023 17:22

I totally disagree. I work with young adults. This is not my experience in fact quite the opposite

Same here. It's not my experience either. I feel mostly optimistic about the current generation of young adults.

But I suppose we all only know our own bubbles - I'm not sure what it's like in other areas of the country.

Oh it's absolutely is representative of society. And it's representative of how many men truly think. Some just won't say it in real life in public to your face. Twitter lets them reveal their real true selves. But many men will and do say it to your face. And it's not just a 'handful' of men, it is literally hundreds and hundreds, if not at least thousands, I have seen. You massively downplay it so naively, you really seem to have absolutely no idea how widespread the attitude is. I understand your wishful thinking, but you are living in deep, deep denial.

Prove your statement. Tell us all how you know exactly how all men think. Tell us how you delved inside a persons head and read their thoughts.

You have had such horrble experiences with circa 1,000 men in real life? As a man I can't think of very many men who expressed opinions like that in front of me. I doubt in real life I have had such an in depth discussion with 1,000 men.

I didn't say ALL men.

Read my post again. I said many.

On twitter, I didn't say all were in real life.

Ah, you're a man, now it makes sense. Sorry but you really have no idea.

If you haven't come across many men who will tell you they believe trans women (even the overwhelming majority who have their penis and testicles intact) are women and therefore should enter womens sacred safe single sex spaces, take our sports medals, re-define us, etc. Then lucky you, I am truly grateful you haven't. But I have. So many have said rape survivors like me should be housed and should change in front of these men and that their rights are more important than mine.

Taken directly from your post where you go on to tell us about the face to face interactions with men.

But many men will and do say it to your face

Quantify it. Rough perentage of men who have vocalised these feelings to you face to face?

Several. But mostly on line. The point is, it happens. That's the point. Many of these (mostly bearded, for some reason) men believe rape survivors should have to change with a man with males with intact penis and testicles. And be in a battered womens shelter with them, in prison with them, have no choice to a female doctor, etc etc. It's the way young men today especially seem to be. It's the 'fad'. Trans rights over the rights and needs of vulnerable women, at all costs. No matter what. Women be damned. As long as a man wearing a dress gets to be validated.

To respond to your edit. No I don't not think trans men should be able to enter womens spaces. I suspect very few men do. I'm of the opinion a massive amount of Transgender is down to mental conditions. There are of course some genuine cases, but I believe them to be in the minority.

No, what you wrote was:

That states people you have met face to face. So out of them, just a rough perentage gave that opinion?

PetiteNasturtium · 06/09/2023 17:23

@CallumDansTransitVan I specifically said the Incel movement and not every single man. It is a specific group, I did not give a number as no one truly knows. It’s not like being a paid up member of a movement that keeps a register and has subs.

Blueeyedmale · 06/09/2023 17:25

A few months ago I was working a late shift at a train station a young lady of around 18 or 19 was waiting for her friends who were arriving on another train, a group of 3 men around early 40,s started shouting and whistling look at that s**g and the way she's dressed other horrible language was used I'd had enough and asked them to leave, its not just young men it's older men too although less rare ive also heard some disgusting comments from older women about young girls and the way they look or dress,I thought after the evreyones invited testimonies and the tragic case of Sarah everard we might see some improvement, sadly this has not been the case

Maatandosiris · 06/09/2023 17:25

100% agree with this @Sueveneers I was a member of a forum. A public person (one of the subjects of said forum) made a fairly small comment about how he couldn’t keep up with the pronouns. Total screech fest about how he was a transphobe/douche etc. I said as a woman I was happy someone was speaking up, I immediately got labelled snd set upon.

Apparently I was then monitored and when I joined a discussion when another public figure commented, I said that whilst one can have sympathy for people suffering from dysphoria it was also necessary to balance this with women’s rights. Cue “what women’s rights are being damaged?”. I got banned/blocked. There was then a post (I could easily access by using DHs phone) slagging me off as a transphobe. I had been monitored for some time. How I had repeatedly made transphobic comments etc (I assume this was my two comments on the issue)

it’s a website where I reckon 99% of the members are male (many are actually sporting beards)

I think we have to accept that men are using the trans debate as a way of shutting down and controlling women,
