Thought the same thing

reap what you sow and all

the hypocracy and lack of self awareness is outstanding

Turkeys voting for Xmas.

ilovesooty · 28/07/2023 19:08

It's behind a pay wall, but if he voted without researching properly I can't be remotely sympathetic.

ChadCMulligan · 28/07/2023 19:08

Things which I will always find funny.

Slapstick and brexiters being hoisted on their own petard

NamelessNancy · 28/07/2023 19:11

Thanks OP. That's cheered me right up!

Ah sorry, I didn’t realise iNews had gone behind a paywall!

Do you mean to tell me the brexit campaign understated any potential negative effects of brexit, and called any concerns or questions about how things would be "project fear" as a way to shut people up????

Well I never.

MissAmbrosia · 28/07/2023 19:12

Twat

Paywall, but I got as far as "Steph Appleton, who voted against Brexit, and Greg Walter, who voted for Brexit which has meant the couple have been unable to pursue their Italian dream due to visa restrictions"

LTB Steph!

Succinct, but accurate.

Can't he sell it

Destinedforfakeness · 28/07/2023 19:15

I mean if this was the only impact I'd laugh but....

superplumb · 28/07/2023 19:17

The worrying thing is I've argued with those who voted brexshit and they said they'd vote the same way again! Mind boggles

OhNoOhNo · 28/07/2023 19:17

An excerpt…

I voted for Brexit ‘I voted for Brexit and was told it wouldn’t affect expats – now I can’t live in my £13,000 Italian house’

Remember the retired Brits crying in Spanish airports saying they'd voted for Brexit because they didn't believe in freedom of movement...only to be absolutely devastated when they lost their freedom of movement?

I do blame the appalling lies of the Brexit campaign (though Leavers on here bafflingly asserted that no one believed the bus!) and I do feel sympathy that people were misled but it's immensely frustrating that we said Brexit would be a disaster, got told we were Project Fear, got gloated at 'you lost, get over it' and now it's a fucking disaster as expected so it is difficult to feel very sorry for someone who voted for all our lives to be shitter now being upset that their life has been made shitter too.

SerendipityJane · 28/07/2023 19:22

I wonder how many times he was telling us that "we won, get over it" whilst calling us "enemies of the people" and suggesting that voting anything other than Tory in 2017 and 2019 was treason because anything else "did not respect (not a word that comes to mind when one thinks of Brexiteers) the referendum" ?

On the plus side, now Italians know where there is one empty property, the homeless of Latronico might be able to make use of.

midsomermurderess · 28/07/2023 19:23

They could do, if they went through the necessary processes, and took out health insurance. Look, people were lied to, were deceived. It's a bit graceless to gloat so.

bellac11 · 28/07/2023 19:24

This was all set out during the referendum as to how it would affect people who wwant to live abroad but not become citizens/work, that visas would be required, that you couldnt own cheap property.

Its ruined any plans we had of buying something in Spain/Italy

GoodChat · 28/07/2023 19:24

"I thought we could keep the Europeans out and still be able to do whatever I wanted in their country"

I think you need at least 30,000 euros a year as pension to get Italian residency as a non-Eu citizen.

PlacidPenelope · 28/07/2023 19:32

The rules are not unclear though, you need a regular income to support yourself if you want to become a resident to live there permanently or come in and out whenever you want otherwise you have to do the 90 days in a 180 period.

Yes they need either Private Health Insurance or to pay into the State Health Insurance and to do that you need a certain level of income.

You can own cheap property you just need to abide by the new rules.
