They could do, if they went through the necessary processes, and took out health insurance. Look, people were lied to, were deceived. It's a bit graceless to gloat so.

There was a lot of graceless gloating after the referendum. Not to mention a rise in hate crimes and people being told to go back to their own country. While Leavers on here were insisting racism had nothing to do with the vote. It was a terrible, terrible decision that has had a negative impact on all of us. I am glad that some Brexiteers are being forced to acknowledge how wrong they were, even though you are right that they were lied to.

AgnesX · 28/07/2023 19:38

The naivity beggars belief. What did they think was going to happen.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry at this

Yeah that excerpt says they voted against Brexit...

She voted remain
he voted leave

I struggle to have sympathy. I too remember the expats from Spain flying in to vote brexit. Idiots.

WhamBamThankU · 28/07/2023 19:50

Lol

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 28/07/2023 19:55

Without the paywall https://archive.li/VaKmu

They've actually bought the place recently. So even more dim than being lied to and not realising what you were really voting for.

As they say on Reddit: "I voted for the 'Leopards eating people's faces' Party, but I never thought they would eat MY face.

stayathomegardener · 28/07/2023 20:08

To echo others they voted AGAINST Brexit!

I voted for Brexit ‘I voted for Brexit and was told it wouldn’t affect expats – now I can’t live in my £13,000 Italian house’
bellac11 · 28/07/2023 20:09

She voted remain

He voted Brexit, its literally in the first few posts

SydneyJKL · 28/07/2023 20:11

My parents did the same, despite my dad working in Europe for year's. Selfish man, denying me and his grandchildren the same opportunities.

The lowlevel of intelligence in some people is astounding. ‘Send back the foreigners..,they are taking our jobs…they are keeping our wages low….’ FGS.
Local restaurants closed due to staffing shortages. Mil is in a nursing home, they have employed 52 staff member ps from India and my local LA has just employed 39 social workers from Africa…

Cornishclio · 28/07/2023 20:11

I haven't got a clue as to why anyone who wanted to live abroad would vote for Brexit but clearly this couple did. Similar to the guy who grew daffodils to export abroad and then realised he had no staff to pick them and by the time the paperwork to export them had cleared the flowers had died.

Turkeys voting for Christmas really so no sympathy from me.

BettyRoodBoy · 28/07/2023 20:13

Almost as if it's a bad idea to vote based on things "you heard".

loislovesstewie · 28/07/2023 20:15

What were they thinking? Were they thinking at all?

PonkyPonky · 28/07/2023 20:19

I don’t think it’s unreasonable of Italy to have minimum income requirements if people from a different country want to live there. All countries should have the freedom to do that, EU citizens or not. These people simply don’t meet the visa requirements but it sounds like they might when she gets her pension in 2 years. This isn’t technically a brexit issue, it’s more of an issue with these particular people not researching Italy’s requirements before buying property there. It’s a stupid people news story rather than a brexit one.

Greggggory · 28/07/2023 20:19

Oh. No. What a shame. I feel so bad for him. Where’s my violin.

Biffatcrafts · 28/07/2023 20:19

So many líes were told about Brexit, and so few people really researched and understood the implications. The whole thing was a travesty. David Cameron has a lot to answer for. Idiots like him just lapped up the lies. Personally I couldn't stay with a partner who voted leave.
