He's probably one of those people who think Jonny Foreigner's rules don't apply to him because he's British.

Mostpeculiarmama · 28/07/2023 22:26

I feel sorry for British people who didn't vote for this nonsense. But morons like this? Ha ha ha ha ha

Flickersy · 28/07/2023 22:26

"people were lied to"

Yes, and they were either too thick to question the obvious lies or they were so blinded by jingoism they didn't care.

It's a very weird sort of entitlement that makes people believe that they can vote for something that limits the rights of others but won't have any impact on their own.

It really takes some breathtaking combination of stupidity and arrogance to believe that you should be free to live wherever you want in Europe after Brexit, but to have voted for Brexit to stop "foreigners" coming to the U.K.!

Kendodd · 28/07/2023 22:28

So where are all the leave voters coming on the thread to defend him ?

Tangled123 · 28/07/2023 22:33

Thing is they will actually be able to get visas to live in Italy, they just have to wait 2 years for the wife to get her pension first so they meet the income requirements (he already gets his). How many people won’t even have that option thanks to people like him?

The same place as all the Tories have disappeared to lately. I haven’t seen Clav for weeks.

It's almost funny isn't it.

I'll never get over us leaving, it's diminished our country completely. I hope the Brexiteers are totally ashamed of their actions, utter morons.

Unfortunately most of them aren't ashamed. And people like this idiot are blaming everyone else for not telling him it might affect him. He didn't care that it would affect everyone else, it's only when it bothers him that he cares. So delighted it's causing him hassle.

Absolutely this.

'I voted brexit to keep out all the immigrants' 'no I'm not an immigrant, I am an expat - it's completely different'

Daphnis156 · 28/07/2023 23:25

Wish we had the same rules here for EU people..

Read this article earlier and just totally face palmed.
I mean I'm genuinely struggling to understand what the actual heck they thought for example restricting freedom.of movement meant?!
"Restrict it for the foreigners!"
"No wait, what do you mean we're foreigners when coming over to you?!"
Mind boggles lol

This.

Every time I think about it I just get speechlessly infuriated at the stupidity of letting such an important decision be made by people who didn't have a fucking clue what they were voting for.

They should have ripped up the votes of anyone unable to explain what a third country is and the implications of being one.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/07/2023 04:19

But I was amused to see that a lot of the hotel staff in a remote and previously very white part of the UK I stayed in recently were African, going by their accents, so there's obviously some drive to replace the lost European workers.

I bet that's exactly what all those who voted leave 'because there's too much immigration these days' wanted and expected to happen. Not.

It will be the same in care homes too I imagine, so maybe the penny will finally drop.....

Figmentofmyimagination · 29/07/2023 05:25

This is the English disease of exceptionalism in action. I do think it’s a very generational thing. It’s hard to imagine anybody under 50 having subconsciously absorbed a message that England is ‘top country’ - and that therefore immigration rules don’t/shouldn’t apply to them.

BorsetshireBanality · 29/07/2023 05:38

i don’t think history is going to be kind to Rees-Mogg, Johnson and Farage - they’re all twats that the Brexit voters blindly followed like sheep and lapped up the crap they spewed

It might be hard to imagine but it's not conclusive. 48% of 35-44 year olds voted to leave. Agreed 18-34 year olds overwhelmingly voted Remain but it isn't just 50+ year olds.

Education level is a higher indicator. 57% of people with a degree voted to Remain.

Also regions. 59% of Londoners voted to Remain, whereas only 42% of those in the East Midlands did.

'I voted brexit to keep out all the immigrants' 'no I'm not an immigrant, I am an expat - it's completely different'

Yes, it's crazy how some people think:

Johnny Foreigner coming here = immigrant. Immigration is bad!

Us going to foreign country = expat. Expats are good because, well, we're British and obviously superior, so any country would welcome us with open arms!

It reminds me of the crappy short-lived soap, Eldorado... where the characters were exactly the type of entitled morons who'd have voted for Brexit and been aghast that this had implications for their lives in Spain.

Gfplux · 29/07/2023 06:37

Brexit has damaged the UK. The people who led the campaign had done a huge disservice to the country. It’s as if they were working for a foreign government. I think they, the ring leaders, should be held to account. Frankly they should be tried in court for Treason.

YukoandHiro · 29/07/2023 06:46

Oh boo hoo . Turns out it wasn't "project fear" after all then? Who could possible have imagined it?

You listen to people who say things like "we've had enough of experts" at your own risk. Suck it up, idiots.

smilesup · 29/07/2023 06:46

I've yet to meet a Brexiter who isn't xenophobic, selfish and/or thick. I'm sure they exist but never met one.
