Wait, people clean these?!

Just browsing online for new tea, coffee and sugar canisters.
One review said how great they were because they were easy to clean....

Clean? People clean these?

I'm fairly sure the sugar at the bottom of mine has been in there a good few years, unless my weekly shake and refill and dislodged the little bits that stick to the edge.

Am I the only one? Will my nan be disappointed? 😅

I have fairly low standards and even I clean mine...

Theunamedcat · 29/06/2023 13:35

Mine is metal so I just bang the bits off

When I had glass ones I washed them....occasionally

widowtwankywashroom · 29/06/2023 13:35

Been in my house 23 years, no I don't think I have ever washed the tea or sugar caddy out.
I do wipe round the top of the tea caddy once in a while. Am I less of a heathen now?

RachelNoire · 29/06/2023 13:36

Wait, people have canisters for these things?

GardeningQuestionTime · 29/06/2023 13:36

Well not often but yes they have been cleaned....

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 29/06/2023 13:37

As above, not every week, but every month or so, yes.

TimeForTeaAndG · 29/06/2023 13:37

We use glass coffee jars for our tea, sugar... So they got cleaned out before filling them. But we refill before they're empty so, no, they don't get cleaned other than a wipe on the outside.

AndrexPuppy · 29/06/2023 13:38

I don’t have the canisters, so that saves me a job.

Hides under a cushion. Every month or so?
I am such a sloven

tossingpenniesinthepool · 29/06/2023 13:39

@Theunamedcat me too!!
Surely washing them will get bits of coffee or sugar stuck, or a teabag wet? No matter how well you dry them, I don't believe they dry properly fast enough to refill

MrsO3 · 29/06/2023 13:39

I clean them

EmpressSoleil · 29/06/2023 13:39

I only clean the sugar one, as sometimes people get drips in it and so it needs cleaning out properly. Tea and coffee ones no.

Jammydodger1981 · 29/06/2023 13:40

I clean them, but only the outside

Isseywith3witchycats · 29/06/2023 13:40

yes i do when the canister is empty i wash it before i fill it again so not all 3 together

iwantmyownicecreamvan · 29/06/2023 13:41

Mine are ceramic so they can go in the dishwasher - except for the lids. I just put them in every time they are empty (I do have a couple of spares though).

tossingpenniesinthepool · 29/06/2023 13:41

Mine are never empty, I refill as I shop, maybe this is the issue.

Yeah me too, crusted on sugar is grim !

RagzRebooted · 29/06/2023 13:42

I wipe the outside once or twice a year.

Mrsjayy · 29/06/2023 13:42

I dishwash mine every now and again.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 29/06/2023 13:43

Had mine.. and the sugar within for 7 years and not cleaned inside
I don't use sugar so...

FadedRed · 29/06/2023 13:43

Mine are stainless steel and go in the dishwasher…occasionally Grin

DifficultBloodyWoman · 29/06/2023 13:44

Wow. You lot are posh. Having canisters, never mind cleaning them! My sugar is in the original packet out of reach on the top shelf. Although, my Nescafé instant comes in a glass container. Does that count?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 29/06/2023 13:45

Instant coffee stays in the can it can in so only wash that before recycling

Proper coffee I keep in a Kilmer jar and I wash that out before refilling if it's a different coffee to avoid blurring the taste Grin

Tea jar I clean every few months as I find you get a build up of tea "dust" which clings to a bag then makes your cuppa look a bit weird

IncognitoMam · 29/06/2023 13:46

I have a big jar of Ringtons instant coffee. Jar gets recycled. Sugar is a glass jar, I wash inside occasionally. Tea canister never.

JollyMollyPolly · 29/06/2023 13:46

I wash mine every time they are empty before refilling. Wipe the outside and underneath most days when I wipe the worktops. I might be in the minority! :)
