Wait, people clean these?!

Just browsing online for new tea, coffee and sugar canisters.
One review said how great they were because they were easy to clean....

Clean? People clean these?

I'm fairly sure the sugar at the bottom of mine has been in there a good few years, unless my weekly shake and refill and dislodged the little bits that stick to the edge.

Am I the only one? Will my nan be disappointed? 😅

I wash mine every time they are empty before refilling. Wipe the outside and underneath most days when I wipe the worktops. I might be in the minority! :)

I do this too, so you are fine.

I'd never heard of Truvia. Like many of these highly processed food additives, it sounds a bit dodgy - I think I'll stick to sugar.

If you've never heard of it, how would you know it is a "highly processed food addictive"? In fact it is much better for people with diabetes (which is why I have it - I don't have diabetes, but the reason I got it was for someone who does). I don't take sugar, and broadly eat nothing sweet - because sugar is as bad for you. Sugar intake contributes to higher blood pressure, inflammation, weight gain, diabetes, and fatty liver disease — and are all linked to an increased risk for heart attack and stroke. Of course, like anything else, it depends on how much you have in your diet. But anything is "dodgy" including "natural foods".

Because I was curious and looked it up on the internet. The side effects sound grim, and I would not choose to ingest such a thing. Sugar ( a natural food) is bad for you if eaten in excess, like everything else, but humans have been eating sugars for millennia.

I always wash them when empty, usually in the dw, dry in airing cupboard before re-filling.
I do have one spare to use whilst this process is happening.
Btw, mine are all a similar colour, mis-matched lidded pots, found in charity shops, I like the ‘bohemian’ look!

I also have glass storage jars, with ground glass lids, you may remember them from the 70’s. I use them for dried fruits and pulses. Clean as above when empty.

oh dear, am I obsessive?

Perhaps you should look up the other stuff on the Internet. My DIABETIC sister was advised to use this for MEDICAL reasons. It is not addictive, it is formed from natural sugars and alcohols ( just not sugar which is bad for diabetics), and what you choose to ingest may one day also be dictated by medical requirements rather than preference.

And humans have been eating stuff that's bad for them for millenia. "Natural" and "good for you" are not the same thing, and even the best natural things can kill or injure you. You know, like sugar being really bad for diabetics? Because the side effects of sugar are rather grim.

She said ‘additive’, not ‘addictive’

And I think the PP’s judgement about Truvia was in response to your judgemental tone re anyone who drinks tea, uses sugar or (gasps in horror) drinks instant coffee 🤷🏻‍♀️

UndercoverCop · 01/07/2023 18:58

Coffee stays in on the jar in the cupboard or fresh ground in the bag in the fridge once open. Tea bags live in a tin by the kettle shake the tea dust out occasionally. We have a sugar bowl with a lid and that goes through the dishwasher when it's empty before it's refilled with no one in this house takes sugar so that's not very often!
