21 year old lost her life because of male
entitlement.
I’m sick of this.

When will this end?
Name the problem.

Trouble is, the ‘decent’ men tend to look the other way and bury their heads in the sand rather than calling misogynistic violence/behaviour out.

Exactly. So not so decent after all. In fact, all men benefit in general from the fact that women live under the threat and the reality of misogynistic violence.

I have a legal question. Maybe someone on this thread is a lawyer/knows a little bit more about such cases.

If he as an American murdered an American woman abroad, could it be possible that he's extradited to America and put in front of a court there?

Or will he be charged and put in prison in Germany?

i am pretty sure that German law will take the position that he should be tried in Germany. It is possible I suppose that the law of the US state or states where the victims were domiciled might also take the view that their courts have jurisdiction. Seems likely though that they will just let the German process go forward. He might be transferred to serve any sentence back home if there’s arrangements in place which permit that between US and Germany.
could be civil claims in US by victim/ victims families too.

Back to Germaine again
“Women have very little idea of how much men hate them"
A lot of men don't like women at all. they like them for sex but not as people.

My mum, a victim of DV, told me that (some) men despise women, nothing i ve seen in my almost 60 years makes me believe otherwise.

But what can men do, so much is to do with failings in Education, Health care and MH in particular.

But ultimately, in most cases its women who do the majority of the childcare, thats on us.

@falsepositivenervous

So well said

Moreover, I don't believe that most men are lovely. Most men manage to toe the line, and that is all, but given half a chance, how many of those lovely men would attack, rape etc if there were no consequences to suffer?

Jeez. I had to check this isn't some weird ultra-feminist corner of MN, but no , it is AIBU.

I am the mother of 2 adult sons who are lovely, and so are their friends. Young men who are deeply shocked by news stories like this, who call out sexism and misogyny when they encounter it. And I don't believe they are exceptional.

Of course there are some terrible men out there, but there are many decent ones.

Maddy70 · 16/06/2023 16:57

falsepositivenervous · 16/06/2023 16:10

@Maddy70 if the "vast majority" of men were as kind and loving as you like to think they would have banded together centuries ago to eliminate the behaviour that contributes to a climate of woman hating that leads to events like this. They might even do it in current times.

"Most men" might not do this themselves, but they don't step up and do anything that might actually change society for the better in terms of how women are viewed and treated? Men could very easily stop watching porn, could say something when a friend makes a misogynist joke, when they see another man behaving badly to women around them. Most men won't even take these basic steps.

The bar for men is so unbelievably low that we have women saying "most men wouldn't throw young women over a gorge after trying to rape/assault them", so fucking WHAT. So many women and girls are raped and murdered every single day all around the world, and yet men still need protection from angry women who might hurt their feelings by being enraged at shit male behaviour. I'm just so angry at the state of everything, and women coming along to defend the class of people that are overwhelmingly the rapists and murderers of our class is always just the cherry on top.

And to answer your question, yes, I do hate men as a class, they don't often give much reason for otherwise.

You think men aren't appalled by these crimes? They have daughters , sisters , wives etc. They are actually the ones who in the majority are bringing these criminals to justice , they are largely the police and law enforcers far more than women.

That's a shame. I fear that he will get 15 years in Germany and will be released after 8 years for good conduct.

Whereas in the US he would get a much harsher sentence.

Shocking isnt it? Imagine a man saying that about a woman , or about a person of colour. Absolute hate

Mylifeislikeaboatrace · 16/06/2023 16:59

Maddy after the Sarah Everett case among others a lot of women probably don't trust the police anyway because they are mostly men.

SunnyEgg · 16/06/2023 17:00

This is horrific

Those poor women

Silence is complicity.

If it's "not all men" then why do men warn their daughters to stay away from men...?

It's because they know that it's enough men and that it's enough men to the point that it may as well be all.

What men warn their daughters against other men? My husband and my make friends are always welcoming and kind to boyfriends that they meet of their girlfriends. I don't recall ever hearing them being warned off men....

this is so obvious that im embarrassed (on your behalf) that it has to be pointed out; in the case of women or POC there would be no evidence to back the statement up. The fact that the huge majority of violent and sexual offences in every human society are committed by men is well documented, by contrast.
those pesky tiresome facts eh

I guess you’ve turned a wilful blind eye towards the rapes, assaults, even murder of women committed by members of our police forces? As for their watchdog: https://news.sky.com/story/ex-police-watchdog-chief-michael-lockwood-charged-with-raping-girl-under-16-and-indecent-assault-12903509

Ex-police watchdog chief Michael Lockwood charged with raping girl under 16 and indecent assault

The 64-year-old stepped down from his role at the IOPC in December after it emerged he was the subject of a police probe into a historical allegation.

Ah @Maddy70 , do you really even believe that yourself?

Also just FYI, most women who are murdered are murdered by a current or ex intimate partner. Most children who are sexually abused are abused by a family member or close friend of the family. Sibling abuse is far more common that people realise. It's not even that long ago that it was fully legal for men to rape their wives. Men are fully aware that they have wives, sisters, daughters.

Freefall212 · 16/06/2023 17:11

The second young woman will probably also die...

Sounds like she actually only has minor injuries as she landed on a fallen tree after only a short distance and managed to keep herself from falling into the ravine.

keyboardkat · 16/06/2023 17:12

I suspect a mental illness or insanity defense incoming.

What a horrible awful crime, but as others have said, male on female violence is par for the course sadly.

I agree with this. Thankfully it has highlighted lots of failings in the police force a d they are having to make long over due changes

RumNotRun · 16/06/2023 17:45

On the NAMALT thing...There was a study done in an American university (Harvard?) years ago that asked men a load of questions about what they would do if they could get away with it, all sex related. It involved things like have sex with a woman who is drunk and passed out. The majority answered yes in at least one question.

Sorry, I will try to find the original article I read but maybe someone else will know more info on it.

RumNotRun · 16/06/2023 17:53

Sorry, it wasn't the majority of men who answered but still a scarily high amount.
