’Multiple near collisions’ ‘Could have been fatal’… Yeah but it wasn’t thought was it?! Surely there’s more important news stories to take up all the news channels with! Right?

The fact that you've started a thread about it shows that news sites will get clicks from such headlines.

Whatt · 17/05/2023 18:16

They're not the ones reporting it though are they.

Its the gutter press.

EatYourVegetables · 17/05/2023 18:17

So you start a thread about it? Well done. Really showing them all.

chipsandpeas · 17/05/2023 18:17

YABU on the basis of yet another thread

Supersimkin2 · 17/05/2023 18:19

H&M announced the ‘story’ themselves - NYPD have yet to corroborate it.

Laiste · 17/05/2023 18:22

Something else to put in the next ''Waaahhhh'' book isn't it.

But they are the ones reporting it.

it happened last night (or early hours of this morning) and it’s only headline news now because Harry’s team released a statement and near catastrophic car chase were their exact words.

i don’t see the purpose of them releasing a statement about this when it wasn’t mentioned in the news at all. Why do it? What is the point?

Laiste · 17/05/2023 18:30

As i say - it's fodder isn't it. A load more bollocks to put in a book.

Netaporter · 17/05/2023 18:32

I’m sure it was an unpleasant experience but the emotive language used by their spokesperson has made it easy for their version of events to appear untrue/exaggerated/unverifiable as it is clear neither the NYPD or the NYC mayor is agreeing about the level of threat or indeed that there even was such a chase. H&M risk diminishing any future threats in this sort of action. It’s clear the 2hrs involved them trying to shake off photographers which was in itself risky and needless and they’ve form for this in their NF documentary. They could’ve stayed at a police station/gone to a hotel for a while/even got a plane somewhere else. Should they have to? No, but they have chosen to sell their life and they can’t have it both ways. They need to decide Are they in the public eye or not?

The cynic in me says this was an incredible coincidence that it all happened just as the Met Police have told Harry they are not guns for hire and just when H needs to come to London to take yet another press organisation to court….

ProtestantsHateAbba · 17/05/2023 18:32

They're one of the most couples in the world. And Meghan eating avocados was apparently important enough to report on a few years back so a car chase is arguably newsworthy.

Harry’s mum died during a car chase with the paparazzi so there’s that angle too…

GoodChat · 17/05/2023 18:33

You can't have a car chase if people choose not to join in.

That being said, you could have just joined the threads in the relevant boards.

sashagabadon · 17/05/2023 18:34

New PR firm, new strategy?

Doesn't he have a court case demanding protection be provided for him?

I'm a total cynic this feels like "evidence manufacturing" honestly I don't even dislike them im fairly ambivalent to them but a two hour car chase in new York? I'm not sure about that headline

fajitaaa · 17/05/2023 18:35

At least give her the respect of spelling her name correctly

But up until their statement - it wasn’t newsworthy at all as no press had reported it.

my 7yr old likes to wind up my 11yr old sometimes. It’s what brothers do, and I tell ds1 the best way to get ds2 to stop is by ignoring him. The more he reacts, the more ds2 continues playing up. H&M and the paparazzi are like my two sons - the paps wind H&M up but rather than ignoring it, H&M release a ridiculously overly exaggerated statement, which in turn just encourages more interest in them, and more paparazzi trying to get photos/comments. Paparazzi won’t chase you for photos is the photos won’t sell because no one is interested in them. The more statements H&M release, the more the paps will try and take their photos, and the more statements get released. Just a never ending cycle.

I like H&M fwiw, but just don’t think they help themselves at all

Azealeasinbloom · 17/05/2023 18:48

I have no strong feelings with H&M, but I cannot help wondering why they would have their driver engage in such a chase , knowing , so tragically, what can happen ?
and I think the fact that their spokesperson was the one to announce it smells of attention seeking.
Which is a shame, Meghan had made the news at the awards ceremony, and did not need the attempt at linking them back to Diana.

HRTQueen · 17/05/2023 18:48

I have seen a paparazzi scramble a few times they are totally reckless their only focus is getting the right photo

of course it’s frightening and we all know how his died

why do you think the royals always have planned trips a huge amount or security around them

Harry is never ever going to live a life where there isn’t a huge amount of public interest in him regardless of he writes books or not

Absolutely! And something g else to keep them in the press (albeit they hate it apparently!) I smell bullshit

DeeLasVegas · 17/05/2023 18:58

‘Near catastrophic car chase’…..what a pile of sh*t. Nonsense driving round NYC for 2 hours because you wanted to protect the privacy of where you were staying.

FrownedUpon · 17/05/2023 18:59

They’re getting the attention they crave. I don’t know why the news agencies are falling for it.

CremeEggThief · 17/05/2023 19:02

These two would find a way of drawing attention to themselves if they went to live on Mars!🙄

SarahSmith2023 · 17/05/2023 19:06

fajitaaa · 17/05/2023 18:35

Respect is earnt. At this rate Beverly will do fine. .

Maggie178 · 17/05/2023 19:07

How would you feel if someone was following you? The press have no right to follow them.

User1432423532 · 17/05/2023 19:11

YANBU because the only source of the story was their own spokesperson. If it blew up all over social media and the news while the chase was happening then it's credible news. Why is there no third party footage of the supposedly "catastrophic" chase?

2 hours is also a very bizarre detail. They were in NYC to receive an award. Did they genuinely stay in a hotel/apartment 2 hours away from the location or did they drive in circles?

Was the full 2 hours a high-speed chase (in which case they would have already been out on Long Island) or was it stuck in traffic?

If in traffic, why did they choose to circle the blocks for so long rather then just driving back to their residence and letting security deal with the rest? They don't live in NYC anyway so who gives a shit if the paps know where they're staying.

To be honest it sounds like Harry was put in a very triggering position (unfortunate of course) and flew off the handle leading to erratic decisions and recollections of the night. All the photos show him looking furious and Meghan more calm but worried. Then he puts out the statement as a retaliation to the press, similar to their decisions to sue anyone or do a "tell-all" revenge on anyone who crosses then.

The statement was released after the pictures briefly appeared on MailOnline. They were taken down after the statement. NYPD have corroborated that they were chased by multiple aggressive paparazzi cars now.
