’Multiple near collisions’ ‘Could have been fatal’… Yeah but it wasn’t thought was it?! Surely there’s more important news stories to take up all the news channels with! Right?

I have only seen on photo but if they were in such danger why on earth were they not wearing seatbelts!!!

You have not been in a NYC cab!

Why has this thread not been moved yet?

She slagged the ‘institution’ off and she thought that saying the Queen was lovely means she wasn’t slagging off the Queen. The monarch literally IS the institution. She criticised everything the Queens stands for, had lived for and built on because she quite simply didn’t get it and her Dumbo husband neglected to tell her what RF life was going to be like.

She very much did slag the Queen off

No she didn't
She had some concerns about how she was treated ,she also had some concerns about how her children might be treated.
This not he same as slagging, off the monarchy .

I am enjoying the accurate references to “wreckless driving.”

Yes, it’s a good thing there was no wreck.

How fast was it? I would have thought the paps had enough footage of H&M at the event anyway.

There weren't any collisions, so... 🤷‍♀️

They footage I’ve seen they kept moving and having to stop because of photographers. There were paparazzi in cars but the ones on bikes were driving on the pavements and then pulling back on the road in front of their car so they were having to pull up hard. The police looked like they were trying to escort them in some of the footage but the photographers were getting in their way. It did look very chaotic with sirens, camera flash and people shouting. Some of the pedestrians were shouting and swearing. As scary as it must have been to be Meghan and Harry in the car, I think it was the people on the street that were most in danger from being hit by motorbikes.

I have lived in America and the paparazzi in New York and LA are awful, they really don’t give a shit. They chase people regularly, but what I found worse was that they harass the young children of famous people, trying to get their famous parent to react. Cunts. The police don’t seem to do much.

FrownedUpon · 17/05/2023 18:59

They’re getting the attention they crave. I don’t know why the news agencies are falling for it.

For sales and clicks.

there aren't enough eye rolls for this latest stunt, they must be really desperate knowing they're irrelevant nowadays.

It's strange actually, if I was followed in the street I would classify that as harassment and expect the police to treat it as such. At least no-one was harmed.

liveforsummer · 17/05/2023 21:14

Why the need for the chase though - I assume they have nothing to hide? The paps are armed with cameras not automatic weapons. No need for the drama and risking lives. Just drive away at a normal speed and ignore it ffs 🙄 (but that wouldn't make headlines)

Hehehejeiej · 17/05/2023 21:21

Just read the quote from the taxi driver. He says the description of it as chase is exaggerated and the paparazzi kept their distance. He didn’t feel it was unsafe.

User1432423532 · 17/05/2023 21:30

They attended a very high profile event at what seems like a Hertz car rental (?) and this was widely publicised. This was after almost 6 months of keeping a very low profile where they were clearly not chased through LA by paps. So it's entirely logical to assume that after they left the event, photographers would be trying to follow them.

There are clips on TikTok with one of the photographers or onlookers heckling Meghan. He shouted "Meghan how does it feel to be part of two broken families?". Maybe that tipped them over the edge and led to the chase instead of just sitting behind tinted windows.

Staying at a secret location whilst attending a high profile event is ridiculously stupid. Apparently it was a friends residence (or with friends) who they didn't want to paps finding out. If the world knew they would be attending X event as guests of honour, they should just stay at a 5 star hotel and accept getting papped going in and out.

This throws a terrible PR for the event itself. She was there to accept some kind of award but now nobody knows or cares what it is. They'll only remember the night for the hideous entry area with Hertz cars and the logic-defying 2 hour car chase through Manhattan evening traffic.

If you were famous, in a car and had an actual police escort then it’s not quite the same as being stalked on the streets

It’s so common in certain places that it’s just accepted. I’ve seen the police look very friendly with the paparazzi, it makes me think they’re in on it somehow but maybe they’re just trying to stop things escalating.

Members of the public are regularly knocked over by paparazzi running, they don’t stop even when they knock kids over. It’s horrible and I think for famous women especially, it must be terrifying. I was in a shop once in New York and a famous model was getting harassed outside. She ended up being escorted in to the back of the shop I was in with her security. The paps had been so rough that she’d grazed all her arm on a wall and was crying. We all had to wait to be let out of the shop until the police came and moved them back as they were taking photos through the window. They just don’t give up and all they say is ‘we’re just doing our job’.

If you look on tiktok, you will see that they didn’t keep their distance. In one of the videos, one of the paparazzi was leaning on the bonnet of the car on his motorbike taking photos and some security moved him off.

YouWonJayne · 17/05/2023 21:45

I’m probably searching wrong but my TilTok is only showing annoying people talking about the chase to the backdrop of the event picture 🙄

Picoloangel · 17/05/2023 21:45

According to Ch 4 news it wasn’t a chase. They were in their SUV but didn’t want the press to know where they were staying so drove around NY for an hour. They then drove to a Police Station and then somehow made the decision to leave in a taxi. Drive around again before returning to the police station . The driver said it wasn’t a chase and he did not feel unsafe at any point though he was aware of cars following. NYPD refute a chase and say no one was arrested, reported etc and point out that H and M arrived safely at their destination. Mayor of NY denies a chase too.

It appears that it’s their truth v THE truth again. The cynic in me says new PR firm, UK court cases one of which relates to security. 🤔They are starring in their own circus. Pretty low to run a car chase story given the personal history but nothing surprises me about them unfortunately.

I have many times

Hehehejeiej · 17/05/2023 21:54

I’m just basing my post on what the taxi driver said @DrunkInTennessee

Swrigh1234 · 17/05/2023 22:03

They probably brought the chasers, sorry the paps, from California with them.

The taxi driver says there was no dangerous chase.

The mayor thinks there was no dangerous chase.

The police say there was no dangerous chase.

Meghan and Harry say there was a dangerous chase. Given their previous track record of lying, it’s safe to say that there was dangerous chase.

Swrigh1234 · 17/05/2023 22:04

Or no chase, it should read.

LemonadeSunshine · 17/05/2023 22:11

Funny how the apparently quiet life they sought has been replaced with LOOK AT MEEEE! Are the funds dwindling a bit?

RecordsTurning · 17/05/2023 22:13

I’ve just watched some of it on tik tok and Twitter. The paparazzi had their cameras against the windows of the car taking photos and the ones on bikes were driving badly. They definitely were not keeping their distance.

Remember the taxi driver could potentially make money from this and will possibly say things that aren’t true to suit a certain narrative, just like Harry’s team may. The footage is there to see though, they paparazzi definitely didn’t keep their distance so the driver is lying.

I think I’d have found it frightening from what I’ve seen, but maybe the driver didn’t. He wasn’t the one who they were after and maybe hadn’t lost his mum in a car crash being chased by paparazzi.

RecordsTurning · 17/05/2023 22:15

Hehehejeiej · 17/05/2023 21:54

The videos show that he was lying. They were right up against the car at times with cameras flashing.

loopylou3030 · 17/05/2023 22:18

In the Taxi photos (during the so called car chase) they aren't even wearing seatbelts. Harry is too busy using his phone to take photos of the paps. Hardly the actions of someone scared for their safety during a car chase. Absolute fools trying to stay relevant which will now backfire as their lies can be proven. Embarassing.

The quotes from the taxi driver and the nyc mayor in the bbc story are quite telling , with the driver saying he never felt in danger and would not call it a chase and mayor pointing out that a 2 hour chase in congested Manhattan is hard to believe!

Quelle surprise 😆

Was it Harry and Megan chasing the paps, desperate to get a picture taken? 😂

Brilliant!! 😆
