’Multiple near collisions’ ‘Could have been fatal’… Yeah but it wasn’t thought was it?! Surely there’s more important news stories to take up all the news channels with! Right?

paparazzi do not ride in blacked out SUVs … how would they get pictures ? No one knows who these people were, they are ‘unidentified’ … it is so obviously a publicity stunt, and not a particularly well executed one at that

SmurfHaribos · 17/05/2023 22:29

What is “near catastrophic”?
Seems a bit of an exaggeration - I imagine cars spinning out of control across the road, tyres burning rubber, swerving at high speed and bumping over curbs when I hear “near catastrophic”.

I’m sure it was an unpleasant experience but the emotive language used by their spokesperson has made it easy for their version of events to appear untrue/exaggerated/unverifiable as it is clear neither the NYPD or the NYC mayor is agreeing about the level of threat or indeed that there even was such a chase. H&M risk diminishing any future threats in this sort of action. It’s clear the 2hrs involved them trying to shake off photographers which was in itself risky and needless and they’ve form for this in their NF documentary. They could’ve stayed at a police station/gone to a hotel for a while/even got a plane somewhere else. Should they have to? No, but they have chosen to sell their life and they can’t have it both ways. They need to decide Are they in the public eye or not?

The cynic in me says this was an incredible coincidence that it all happened just as the Met Police have told Harry they are not guns for hire and just when H needs to come to London to take yet another press organisation to court….

This. Absolutely this.

(And that scobie guy is such a creep ... just saying!)

laidbacklife · 17/05/2023 22:29

Sounds v exaggerated. Lots of ‘almost’ and ‘near’ incidents. The taxi driver was there - in person - and has stated he felt safe. If they are in the habit of not wearing seatbelts then they are stupidly waiting for an accident to happen. Frankly this all sounds like a timely showdown to support his claim he needs protection provided.

mrschocolatte · 17/05/2023 22:30

I see the Mumsnet basket of deplorables are alive and well tonight. Literally rubbing their tiny little hands in glee at the thought of another juicy H&M pile on. Grubby people with grubby minds.

Exactly.

(I used to like Harry. Then he met Megan and I thought she was nice! Lovely wedding all v positive! Then after that I went from liking them to being neutral, to a little bit disliking, then positively disliking and now I am at the point where I cannot stand the sight or mention of either of them!! They need the just STOP all the nonsense. STOP it!!!!!!! I'm sure this recent "near fatal collision" (recollections may vary according to the taxi driver and the police) will be all over their next propoganda woe - is - me Netflix installment, or in Megs book ...)

Alongside the H&M sheep, bleating on about how their lies are gospel even though they've been proven liars
I'd rather hate a lying pair of clowns than be a docile sheep lapping up the lies and misdirection of those two self centred fools

That taxi driver had them in his car for ten minutes, AFTER he picked them up from the police as the police helped them swap cars and then they weren’t followed back. So his experience is irrelevant really, as he wasn’t with them when they said they were pursued. The headlines about “taxi driver says he felt safe” are really misleading.

RavenclawDiadem · 17/05/2023 22:53

Isn’t it funny that the first anyone heard of this almost catastrophic event was the statement from the Sussexes? New York is hardly short of journos and news crews.

Indeed and they often follow chases in helicopter cameras too ... what happened to these?

KittyAlfred · 17/05/2023 22:56

It’s an irony that they left the UK to escape the publicity and paparazzi , and moved to USA, where they got themselves as much publicity as they could. And now it turns the American paparazzi are no different from the UK!

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 17/05/2023 22:56

‘I don’t think I would call it a chase,’ Singh said of his period driving the couple. ‘I never felt like I was in danger.'
metro.co.uk/2023/05/17/taxi-driver-who-was-gave-meghan-and-harry-a-ride-as-they-were-chased-speaks-out-18802134/

So, they were followed, but the taxi driver said he didn't feel like he was in danger...

Charlize43 · 17/05/2023 22:57

People really need to start respecting their privacy by completely ignoring them. This is also the reason I wouldn't watch their Netflix documentary.

Their spokesperson said it was near catastrophic so it isn't 'grubby' to ask what the catastrophe was.

I'd bet you don't feel anything approaching this level of emotion towards anyone you know in your actual real life.

The obsession with taking sides on this tale of family dysfunction, acting like you know the parties involved, is so strange.

RavenclawDiadem · 17/05/2023 19:35

How can you be involved in a almost catastrophic car crash when you're parked up and not moving?

They’re not moving because there was a crash.

Yes.

Just because he felt safe doesn’t mean that Harry, Meghan and Meghans mum did, as they were the people who they were trying to photograph. Also, the taxi driver hadn’t seen what had happened previously in the other car.

The taxi footage is still horrible to watch and I’d have been scared in that car. There were still some paparazzi taking photos and getting very close to the car, going on the pavements. The paparazzi are scum and they endanger people’s lives daily.

What are everyone’s thoughts on when the exclusive ‘tell all’ about this ‘ordeal’ will land?

YouWonJayne · 17/05/2023 20:09

If I willingly put myself in the public eye I’m not sure I could complain actually

Ah but this is the very same attitude some men have towards women who dare step foot outside their house, they're "asking" to be stalked, harassed, videoed and photographed by willingly being out in public - at the gym, going shopping, working, attending a concert, or God forbid holding any kind of public position or power at all. Pretty depressing the "they were asking for it" attitude is still so prevalent at all levels of society.

IMO there is never, ever any excuse for stalking, harassing or intimidating anyone, I don't care how famous the person is or how much the public think they "deserve it". It's not ok at any level and it's time paparazzi were held accountable the same as anyone else who behaves this way - with restraining orders and criminal charges for breach of said orders.

Jabiru · 17/05/2023 23:58

They’ll do anything to link themselves to Diana

I agree.

Its really fucked up to think that if you’re a public figure, that means you give up your whole life, anything goes and you just have to accept this shit.
