’Multiple near collisions’ ‘Could have been fatal’… Yeah but it wasn’t thought was it?! Surely there’s more important news stories to take up all the news channels with! Right?

Screenshots of the paparrazi shots in the Express and Mail, these stories were up before the Sussexes statement was released, and we're taken down very quickly afterwards.

I'm a cynic where is the exciting video footage 🤔

Absolutely! And something g else to keep them in the press (albeit they hate it apparently!) I smell bullshit

The statement came after the pictures appeared in UK tabloids online. After the statement the tabloids deleted the pictures/ stories.

LizzieSiddal · 17/05/2023 19:24

Those photos look eerily similar to the pap shots of Diana just before the car accident. I don’t have any options about H&M but I do have sympathy about this incident. The press never learn do they.

growgrowinggrown · 17/05/2023 19:25

There can only be a chase if they decide to participate. Absolutely nothing stopping them pulling over safely/ driving to a police station.

Disgusting actually to try and make something out of this to try and pull a 'Dianna' angle.

Really? They look exactly the same as any other paparazzi shot I’ve ever seen pointed into a car.

This is my feeling. The chase involved them trying to hide out, with NYPD support, then trying to switch cars to ge left alone. They did not want to lead the paps to where they were staying. According to reports, the wreckless driving included the cars following them mounting pavements and going the wrong way down one-way streets, even after George told to back off by NYPD officers. It doesn't have to be high speed to be frightening.

The NYPD have also issued statements confirming they were followed.

I'm not sure why there is do much nastiness in this thread TBH. It sounds scary. And clearly the paps following were motivated by substantial money from the UK tabloids who initially ran the story.

RavenclawDiadem · 17/05/2023 19:30

Emotive, exaggerated, load of nonsense statement.

And kind of blows a hole in the "we had to leave the dangerous, awful UK for the safe, kind US" nonsense.

Swrigh1234 · 17/05/2023 19:31

These two charlatans are a laughing stock. Two hour car chase? Utter nonsense. They’re not even smart enough to make up plausible stories.

Speedweed · 17/05/2023 19:32

All the details apparently came from PH's pr people, the mayor of NY has expressed doubts that it could have gone on for two hours and at any sort of speed, and the taxi driver they used (thinking that would be a decoy) said they weren't at risk and he wasn't going fast...

They'd just left an event where they were photographed - why do they care if they were photographed more sitting in the back of a car? It's hardly a scoop 'couple returns home together after fancy night out'. Diana had been trying to stay out of public engagements at the time of her death, it had just come out about her relationship with Dodi, and there were rumours she was pregnant. That's why the paps were so interested in her.

M and H would love to be that interesting, but sadly, there is nothing to be interested in.

There isn’t any because it never happened.

EsmeSusanOgg · 17/05/2023 19:33

There is some footage of some of the incident online, but hard to know when in their ordeal this happened.

All those that say it didn’t happen, have obviously missed the statement from the police and NYC Mayor to say it did happen.

How can you be involved in a almost catastrophic car crash when you're parked up and not moving?

Swrigh1234 · 17/05/2023 19:36

There could be so many funny comedy sketches of this fantasy 2 hour car chase. Imagine Harry and Meghan rolling from side to side in the back of the taxi whizzing around NY for two hours breaking red lights, being chased by…..precisely no one. Then getting out of the car and standing there to compile their press statement.

eternalopt · 17/05/2023 19:38

The quotes from the taxi driver and the nyc mayor in the bbc story are quite telling , with the driver saying he never felt in danger and would not call it a chase and mayor pointing out that a 2 hour chase in congested Manhattan is hard to believe!

At least give her the respect of spelling her name correctly

I think there's a rule that her name must be misspelt in the title or OP.

I read it that police confirmed the taxi was followed, which is very different from chased.

The mayor appears to insinuate he doesn't believe there was fast 2hr chase in the city and is awaiting further evidence from the police to confirm.

Because this is just one moment.

NYC mayor confirms there was a chase element with wreckless driving and that two NYPD officers could have been seriously injured. Clip and more info running on AP now.

EsmeSusanOgg · 17/05/2023 19:41

Mayor has now had police briefing and said their was reckless and dangerous driving from paps. And that he has been told two officers could have been very seriously injured because of it. It may not have been high speed for all 2 hours, but that doesn't mean it was ok.

talkitup · 17/05/2023 19:41

There are some seriously harsh comments on this thread. His mother died as a result of crap like this, so he's entitled to be concerned for the welfare of his family. Paps have no off-switch; it's all about the pics & it has been substantiated as having occurred by NYPD.

Lavenderheys · 17/05/2023 19:42

They never let reality get in the way of their perpetual victim narrative

fajitaaa · 17/05/2023 19:43

I am worried about them now. I wasn't before but this is getting silly. They aren't safe in the US. But the UK is so hostile towards them.
