’Multiple near collisions’ ‘Could have been fatal’… Yeah but it wasn’t thought was it?! Surely there’s more important news stories to take up all the news channels with! Right?

I think the idea that unless you are silent you are an arsehole is tiresome in the extreme.

Maybe. But being silent can hide what an arsehole you are.

Yes but what if you don't want to be silent just because some non-silent people are arseholes? Why should I be silent if I want to say something about a news story?

YouWonJayne · 18/05/2023 21:27

I’m really confused now as to who people are talking about when they say people should be silent - H&M or their critics?

@YoucancallmeKAREN

I did like ‘the queen of people’s Hertz’

I haven't come across that one but i love it

This alleged car chase, that seems to be a huge exaggeration, is reported by Harry’s people because it’s feeding a narrative into the court case about his protection in London. He is arguing he should be allowed to pay for Royal protection, but the Government decided Royal protection was not a purchasable service. So he’s got a court case running. This “event” in NY was exaggerated and then reported to demonstrate to the judge that he’s still a victim of unwanted paparazzi interest. It’s just unbelievably crass!

Pigstrotter · 18/05/2023 21:50

It was probably Camilla chasing them.

You can say what you want. You shouldn't feel stifled. MN will delete if you go too far so you're quite safe.
Go at it, my friend.

I saw the taxi driver interviewed with Piers Morgan. The taxi driver said that Meghan and Harry looked nervous when they got in his car. They were followed by 2 cars when in his cab and when they had to stop because of a lorry pulling in front of them, 6 ish paparazzi came out of nowhere. The taxi driver confirmed that it was more attention than he had experienced with other famous people, that the paparazzi surrounded the car and went crazy with the cameras. Piers was very disappointed with this answer. He was clearly desperate for him to say he’d seen worse.

Piers asked the driver if he thought it had been made into more than it was and the taxi driver repeated that they looked very nervous and that he didn’t know what they had been through before getting in his cab. Again, piers was very disappointed with the answer.

He asked the taxi driver if Harry and Meghan had spoken to him and he said not much but they asked his name when they left and told him to have a good evening. Piers again disappointed. Piers asked him if they had paid. He said they paid well. Piers left disappointed again.

Piers was desperate to find something. Sad git.

Dear Harry and Meghan,

Here's what you should have done. Go to the police station where a couple of hired lookalikes are waiting. Lookalikes leave in taxi pursued by paps while you go out a side door and make your way quietly to your mate's house.

Sincerely,

Potato.

Couldn't they have just got a lift from the police in a patrol car, if the police thought it necessary?
Why involve an innocent member of the public ( the taxi driver ) and endanger his life, ( if we believe the harkles story ) when the police would have had some specialist driver training!

YeahYouDo · 19/05/2023 02:29

@CalmYourThunder I saw the interview. Piers was so gutted. 😂

TrashyPanda · 19/05/2023 06:30

It’s comedy gold.

almost as if they were wanting Southpark to make a second episode.

ThePoshUns · 19/05/2023 06:48

They created this hysteria.
If they had got to the venue on time and entered and left by the front, photographers could have had their photos, they could have got in their car and left.
By ' sneaking' in and out of the back ( in full sight) they made a whole other drama.
If they are attending events to accept awards then they should accept photographers will be there.
If they don't want to be photographed don't go!
I do think they want to be photographed though, certainly Meghan does.

Gilmorehill · 19/05/2023 09:44

They created this drama and I’m not sure why. Almost no one believes them. It smacks of desperation. I just wonder where are they heading in life. I do feel H is in a fragile mental state. He did not look good in that taxi while M was beaming away.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/05/2023 10:14

They created this drama and I’m not sure why

A common view is that they hope to influence the current case about H&M's security - a shame if so, because the real impression that seems to have been left is that they'll exaggerate to get what they want

From past form it wouldn't be the first time, but it's hard to see how damaging their own credibility yet further nis going to help anyone

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/05/2023 10:15

Yes, YABU.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 19/05/2023 10:22

To be fair, exaggerated or not, why do the paps want a photo of them in a car? So boring! Why chase people for that? Ridiculous.

And that's why the royals have the 'never complain, never explain' mantra. Harry should have heeded that advice.

I agree. They're just sat in a car. What's the point of it? Maybe they hope to get a picture of them picking their nose or something?

ImPrawnCrackers · 19/05/2023 10:34

But why would you heed someone else's advice when you think you're never wrong?

Peverellshire · 19/05/2023 10:46

I am struggling to understand why all 3 would cram into the back seat of a NYC, unvetted cab & become potentially sitting ducks due to the clear windows (?)

I believe at request of NY police but Meghan appeared v relaxed about it all? Although, hard to know of course. It will be interesting to see how it all unravels in next few days.

GoodChat · 19/05/2023 10:48

They'll probably just sack their PR guy and say he made it up

pilates · 19/05/2023 10:49

Why don’t famous people who visit New York have the same problem when attending events. You never hear about it. Or perhaps they do? Perhaps someone more knowledgeable could enlighten?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/05/2023 10:50

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 19/05/2023 10:22

I agree Lois, though nobody's yet offered any thoughts as to why previous NY visits haven't resulted in a "near catastrophe" yet this one allegedly has - hence perhaps the widespread views that the timing's no coincidence in light of the current court case

Yet another remarkable coincidence is that there should be a "stalker/prowler" arrested in Montecito within hours of the NY thing, except it's being claimed locally (how truthfully I don't know) that Kevin Valdovinos was working there rather than prowling and that the whole thing's a set-up

As ever, it's probably best to keep an open mind until there's proof of anything one way or another
