To be offended by Nike?

My go-to sports brand is launching a new sports bra using a transwoman influencer.

What are they trying to communicate to me, their target audience? That their new sports bras are too wide in the back and have no extra space and good support for my breasts?

I would have thought a fair bit of biological reality goes into designing sports clothing for men and women, to ensure maximum comfort and optimum performance.

I feel… mocked. Is this what Nike thinks women are?

The funny thing is, Nike do have history of politics and appearing right-on, but on this occasion they’ve missed the train by 2 years… I invite you to consider carefully where you spend your woman-money.

I need new running trainers. I will actively choose another brand - Nike would have been an automatic choice otherwise.

InsertSomethingMotivationalHere · 06/04/2023 09:15

It's shit but not surprising at all.

I bought a pair of New Balance recently and I quite like them.

Used to buy lots of Nike Lunarlon and the ones for jumping/plyometrics before. No more.

Yes this has really annoyed me. This influencer is just mocking women. Of all the strong, impressive sports women they could have chosen to flog their gear. Dylan would probably have a coronary if he ran 5k he looks so unhealthy. Sod off Nike.

TakeMe2Insanity · 06/04/2023 09:28

I saw the advert this morning and found myself wondering how this was inclusive. In my mind it would make more sense to have Trans clothing perfect for their body quirks etc.

Someone pointed out he is underweight and to model in many places he would have to put some weight on.
So women, get underweight, prance and jump around with 0 coordination and giggle like idiots. That's what we are suppose to do I guess

JuneOsborne · 06/04/2023 09:29

This has to be a parody, or a fake. No one would insult the way women exercise like this and think it will make women buy their shit, unless it's a joke. Surely.

Hedjwitch · 06/04/2023 09:30

Another brand to boycott.

Azerothi · 06/04/2023 09:40

I am so glad this was posted this morning. Very much a near miss for me about to go shopping. I am intrigued though as to why this man is being chosen to 'model' so many women's clothes and tampons. Does this mean Nike women clothes are now made to fit a man's physique and not a woman's?

I have muscle but definitely a woman's shape, breasts and narrow back so do I assume Nike no longer fits me as Nike seem to be implying? Actually, scrap all that I don't have to wonder about it, I'll just add Nike to the extensive boycott list.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 06/04/2023 09:47

It's completely offensive to women. He's taking the piss out of us. Hopefully all women will boycott Nike.

Shitehound · 06/04/2023 09:47

Same here. I complained on Nike's live chat this morning and the staff member agreed with me that it was offensive! They will passing on the feedback...

742EvergreenTerrace · 06/04/2023 09:50

I won’t be buying any new Nike then. Pretty sure they had a trans woman modelling sports bras a few years ago.

Just would have thought to model woman’s wear, a woman’s body would suffice. Breasts, hips, thighs etc.

Blablablanamechangagain · 06/04/2023 09:51

Wtf is this?!

xsquared · 06/04/2023 09:55

Surely Dylan Murphy is just a piss taker? I can't believe they are being used to promote so many brands.

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 06/04/2023 09:55

Is he taking the piss out of Nike or women, I can't really tell? The narrative seemed to be "this is how Nike think women exercise".
I can't get upset about a brand mixing gendered clothing in general btw, my dd never buys women's hoodie for example. In this case though I'm not sure what this guy is trying to achieve or say; whatever is is isn't working.

GoShorty · 06/04/2023 09:55

If that’s what Nike thinks a woman is, they can fuck off if they think I’ll be spending any of my woman-money with them in the future.

Everydayshouldbe · 06/04/2023 09:55

Do you remember that "run like a girl" advert? Where people (including girls) where asked to do things "like a girl" and they all did them in a fake way, a lot like that ad? But when asked to do them like themselves, it was totally different.

lazycats · 06/04/2023 09:57

So many posters on here sound like trump fans. “AnOTeR brAnD tO bOYcOTt!!”

CallipyJean · 06/04/2023 09:57

No more Nike for me!

Dylan can f*ck off with that ”girlhood” nonsense Angry

GoingOnlySlightlyCrazy · 06/04/2023 09:57

That was actually painful to watch 🤦‍♀️

HunterHearstHelmsley · 06/04/2023 09:59

I've always been a Nike fan, most of my sportswear is Nike. Sadly, not anymore.

Absolute bollocks.

If Nike want to market clothing aimed at the trans community they can do. But don't use a transwoman to promote clothing for women and especially not in a pisstaking way like Dylan is.

purpledalmation · 06/04/2023 10:02

I posted a similar post and got deleted.
