To be offended by Nike?

7Worfs · 06/04/2023 09:13

My go-to sports brand is launching a new sports bra using a transwoman influencer.

What are they trying to communicate to me, their target audience? That their new sports bras are too wide in the back and have no extra space and good support for my breasts?

I would have thought a fair bit of biological reality goes into designing sports clothing for men and women, to ensure maximum comfort and optimum performance.

I feel… mocked. Is this what Nike thinks women are?

The funny thing is, Nike do have history of politics and appearing right-on, but on this occasion they’ve missed the train by 2 years… I invite you to consider carefully where you spend your woman-money.

No more Nike purchases for this household.

highfidelity · 06/04/2023 10:34

You are being unreasonable calling DM a TW, he's not, he's a female impersonator who only jumped on the transwagon when he realised he could gain success mocking women.

And no, you have every right to be offended by Nike (and other brands) for rewarding him.

Seasonofthewitch83 · 06/04/2023 10:36

Dylan must have one hell of a PR company because they are being used as bait for brand engagement. Nike know exactly what they are doing by using Nike and creating controversy - it all still drives sales.

MelsMoneyTree · 06/04/2023 10:37

I bet Dylan can't believe his luck.

FasterthanBolt · 06/04/2023 10:02

Absolute bollocks.

If Nike want to market clothing aimed at the trans community they can do. But don't use a transwoman to promote clothing for women and especially not in a pisstaking way like Dylan is.

Trump has a capital letter as it is a proper name,,pet.

So many posters on here sound like trump fans. “AnOTeR brAnD tO bOYcOTt!!”

You sound more Trumpian with that idiotic writing.

What? I don’t see any signs of poor use of English - just outrage at women being mocked, yet again, by a man, and by a major brand endorsing the mockery.

Trump fans 😵‍💫

hattie43 · 06/04/2023 10:48

They really couldn't find a proper woman then . Jeez

NillyNoMates · 06/04/2023 10:48

Is that an actual advert?

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 06/04/2023 09:55

Is he taking the piss out of Nike or women, I can't really tell? The narrative seemed to be "this is how Nike think women exercise".
I can't get upset about a brand mixing gendered clothing in general btw, my dd never buys women's hoodie for example. In this case though I'm not sure what this guy is trying to achieve or say; whatever is is isn't working.

It's not the same as a hoodie though is it? Sports bras, if well made, should be designed for women's bodies, our breast, back size, shoulders. If it works for a man then it is badly designed for women.

OP to be honest this isn't a surprise from Nike, they have treated their female athletes appallingly when pregnant.
The eye opener for me was one of their female athletes having to fight them through covid - invoking the not competing in the Olympics clause when the Olympics was postponed for example. Awful company.

I’m not sure what it is. Is it it just someone choosing to post something

Bless you. I guess when you have made the words fascist, nazi, bigot and transphobe meaningless by throwing them around like confetti it becomes much harder to express your impotent rage at women who understand the material reality of biological sex.

This is a paid partnership, it says so under DM's name on the top left of the screen.

Dylan is being given so many sponsorship deals that Dylan is just phoning it in now. The performance in this video is Dylan's usual offensive interpretation of "girlhood".

Inaea · 06/04/2023 10:52

GoingOnlySlightlyCrazy · 06/04/2023 09:57

That was actually painful to watch 🤦‍♀️

Right? I want to say the worst bit is how offensive the ad is to both women and gay men, but actually the worst bit has to be the creepy smile and the eyes. If I saw him in an alley (or toilet) I’d run a mile.

@highfidelity I agree Dylan is a female impersonator - as are many under the 'trans umbrella'. He's Dame Edna styled in Audrey Hepburn.

Isn't/wasn't Dylan an actor before he transed from a gay man to his female role?

I assume he must feel his female act must be getting a bit old (i.e. not as lucrative as it could be) as he's now started on his next 'role' - a 6 year old girl who lives in a luxury hotel called Eloise 😂

What I don't get is why would a young, good looking gay man carve up his face and embarrass himself like this just to make money? He must really love money.

I need new running trainers. I will actively choose another brand - Nike would have been an automatic choice otherwise.

I switched to new balance from Nike too, when I started running seriously. 860s are great if you pronate at all.

Alienbigcat45 · 06/04/2023 10:55

Totally offensive, who on earth do Nike think this will appeal to?!

Oooh thanks for the tip, I'm going back to proper shoes after almost 2 decades of bare foot running shoes. I have absolutely no idea where to start so I'll check these out.

AHugeTinyMistake · 06/04/2023 11:02

I don't think this is a real Nike ad is it?

I'm not being funny but this is a billion dollar company and you lot think they would put out an ad with those trash production values 🤣

DM aside, it's a TERRIBLE video. It's obviously not a real endorsement 🤷‍♀️

crumpet · 06/04/2023 11:05

It’s a paid promotion, as he’s an “influencer “

May I suggest Hoka.

I made the switch last year and they are fantastic trainers.

It's paid parnership on insta and the correct Nikewomen profile tagged.
So yes, nike has paid for physical man to promote women's gym wear.

fluffy2buffy · 06/04/2023 11:15

Hopefully they've done a Ratner!

L3ThirtySeven · 06/04/2023 11:18

I wont be boycotting Nike.
I don’t think clothing should be segregated by sex anyway..so I do not care whether a male or female is wearing any article of sports clothing no matter what they call themselves. I get it can seem offensive to see a male in a sports bra, but so what? Just because we were raised thinking their nipples are ok to expose but ours aren’t- who says everyone has to dress that way? If a male wants to cover up their nipples/top and use a sports bra to do it that is ok by me. Similarly if a female wanted to work out topless…I’d be ok with that too.

Nike must have really bad business advisors.

I find it incredible that a company would promote something they are trying to sell - their sports bra, as not fit for purpose. If it fits a man (who has no breasts) then what use is it going to be to a woman? It doesn't make any business sense. It's like using Kate Moss to promote beard oil by smearing it all over her (obviously beardless) chin 😂
