To be offended by Nike?

My go-to sports brand is launching a new sports bra using a transwoman influencer.

What are they trying to communicate to me, their target audience? That their new sports bras are too wide in the back and have no extra space and good support for my breasts?

I would have thought a fair bit of biological reality goes into designing sports clothing for men and women, to ensure maximum comfort and optimum performance.

I feel… mocked. Is this what Nike thinks women are?

The funny thing is, Nike do have history of politics and appearing right-on, but on this occasion they’ve missed the train by 2 years… I invite you to consider carefully where you spend your woman-money.

I don’t actually have an issue with a TW modelling a sports bra, although it does make me wonder why it was seen to be the best option.
However, Dylan doesn’t even have bloody boobs so how the F do they need a sports bra. It’s ridiculous

They? Is Dylan non binary now or are you deliberately misgendering him? (I am BTW because I believe he's the man he is)

You seem to be trans supporting but can't bring yourself to refer to him as 'she'

Interesting

HermioneWeasley · 06/04/2023 13:45

Imagine making the marketing decision to tell people your sports bras are only suitable for flat chested men. It’s hardly a sales pitch!

cobblers123 · 06/04/2023 13:47

Crikey, how can I ever unsee that!

There's a whole list of products with some loon like Dylan advertising them, I'm steadily making sure I don't buy anything from those companies ever again.

MoggyMittens23 · 06/04/2023 13:48

I just did the online chat thing to give my feedback as well. The person apologised and said they totally got the upset and outrage. Comments will be passed on and taken seriously...

I haven’t said anything sounding like a Trump supporter. I don’t think anyone has bar the stupid upper lower case writing that a pp used.

I would prefer clarification on whether it’s a sponsored post or not as posts seem to vary on it. I don’t know this person nor use Twitter

I meant ‘you’ as in everybody, not you personally. Posts like this are a bit of a dog whistle on here that undermine the real issues around trans ideology. Still, logic suggests billion dollar company Nike with its shit hot advertising wouldn’t be putting out a video of an odd bloke trotting about in his back garden shakily filmed on a phone.

Esmereldapawpatrol · 06/04/2023 13:53

Are they actually an ambassador for Nike or have they just tagged Nike in their post as that's what it looked like from your link?

It looks very low key I would be surprised if that was an approved ad?

Surely Dylan Murphy is just a piss taker? I can't believe they are being used to promote so many brands.

He looks like a lunatic in that tweet

Fraaahnces · 06/04/2023 13:57

I’m actively avoiding wokeism and trans-advertising too. Nauseating AF. If people could just STFU about it and get on with their lives, that would be great.

It says at the top it's a paid partnership.

7Worfs · 06/04/2023 14:01

@jetadore as far as I understand it, young people don’t watch much TV or buy magazines, so big brands can’t get away with only doing high budget TV and magazine ads.
So they work with hundreds of influenzas all the time, for a fraction of the cost and a multi-million audience reach. Plus they bank on being more reliable that way, I assume.

I said neither does anyone else bar the caps writer so it wasn’t just me personally I thought you meant.

You do know that brands sponsor content creators all the time?

Shaky videos are par for the course these days.

I’d not heard of him so looked up his IG. He has 1.7m followers and plenty of paid partnerships. There’s no logical reason to suggest it doesn’t include Nike. If this particular footage has paid partnership on it then it joins the long list under that Twitter post in op

There’s no logic in stating it’s not attributed to Nike
Nike Women
Bud Light
Ole Henrikson
Plaza Hotel
Mac
Ulta Beauty
Tampax
Crest
Kate Spade
Ok Cupid
Svedka Vodka
Urban Decay
Walmart
Mugler
Rent the Runway
Aritzia
Charlotte Tilbury

Any of these are likely to be shaky videos or typical unprofessional IG shots

relatable, not reliable. Auto-correct got me there

I just did too and they basically told me they had nothing to do with it. Had nowhere to pass it into and wouldn't give me an email for anyone.

Just repeatedly threatened to close the chat.

Tampax? How did that work?

Interesting, and at least so far, Dylan does not think that now he is a woman, he can menstruate, so the tampons are not for him per se. However, Dylan believes that an integral part of being a women is handing out tampons to other women in the ladies room. So he is now able to be that woman.

highfidelity · 06/04/2023 14:22

*interestingly

Captone · 06/04/2023 14:22

I will never understand how regressive, reductive stereotypes came to championed as authentic and progressive. It's the opposite of everything feminism is about. That ridiculous video is nothing to do with being a woman, only an offensive parody of one.

He said in one of his videos that he was hoping his female parter would get him pregnant. Really.

So I wouldn't hold much water in thinking he isn't under the illusion he actually needs tampax himself.

He's recently said no-one will date him, so I think this is already an outdated plan.

He seems to say (and do) whatever will get him the most clicks. I am sure that as soon as he has amassed x amount of money, he will probably disappear. I have no doubt he knows he's a fraud, and is praying to god he cashes in before he's properly called out.

But Dylan has written that. Has any confirmation or denial come from Nike yet?

Brokendaughter · 06/04/2023 14:34

I have never met a woman who aspires to look like a skinny bloke pretending to be a woman.

Pretty sure Nike would sue the fuck out of him if he tagged them like he has and they weren't actually in a paid partnership?!

Yes, Nike would stomp on this immediately

You're talking about a company that knowingly sponsored the evil cnut Michael Vick. They only care about money.
