To be offended by Nike?

My go-to sports brand is launching a new sports bra using a transwoman influencer.

What are they trying to communicate to me, their target audience? That their new sports bras are too wide in the back and have no extra space and good support for my breasts?

I would have thought a fair bit of biological reality goes into designing sports clothing for men and women, to ensure maximum comfort and optimum performance.

I feel… mocked. Is this what Nike thinks women are?

The funny thing is, Nike do have history of politics and appearing right-on, but on this occasion they’ve missed the train by 2 years… I invite you to consider carefully where you spend your woman-money.

Right. There’s lots of sports brands out there, I see no need to buy DS anymore stuff from Nike.

MelsMoneyTree · 06/04/2023 10:07

I can't work out if Dylan is shit at exercising or thinks that's how women exercise. Either way as a brand endorsement for women's sportswear it doesn't work. My female body needs completely different support than his male one. And I don't exercise anything like that. How embarrassing for Nike. I guess they've forgotten who their target market is. It would have made much more sense for them to launch a line for transpeople.

Paperbagsaremine · 06/04/2023 10:07

They gave Justin Gatlin sponsorship AFTER his doping bust.

And didn't they carry on funding Salazar's defense AFTER Mary Cain had come out with her account?

Nike have never been "nice", but you may have to look a long time for a company that is - I suspect some are just better at keeping out of the headlines.

hermioneee · 06/04/2023 10:08

To be fair to Nike this isn't on any of their platforms and they're just tagged in. I don't think this is a Nike ad. It doesn't say partnership anywhere either.

upwefly · 06/04/2023 10:09

But he hasn't even gone to the effort of getting a boob job....what is the actual point of this?

GoodChat · 06/04/2023 10:11

Yeah to me that just shows they're not actually appropriate for women - they're wrong proportionately.

I think this too. The Nike women account tagged in has 5 followers.

So many posters on here sound like trump fans. “AnOTeR brAnD tO bOYcOTt!!”

Boycotting brands has long been a tactic of left-wing activism. It's genuinely funny that you're trying to spin it that left-wing people aren't thoughtful about their purchases 😄

Do you remember that "run like a girl" advert? Where people (including girls) where asked to do things "like a girl" and they all did them in a fake way, a lot like that ad? But when asked to do them like themselves, it was totally different.

I JUST came here to post this

Passerillage · 06/04/2023 10:14

It's taking the piss out of women in a very cruel way, but also feels like Nike is mocking Dylan Mulvaney though. Nobody comes off well in this campaign.

That particular video makes it seems like Nike is capitalising on someone's mental mental health issues more than anything else.

"Look, here's a trans person hanging on by a THREAD - let's chuck some free leggings at them so they can jump around in a tiktok and we can tick our "inclusivity" box for Wednesday. Who cares if it exposes them to a whole new audience for online villification and abuse?".

Americano75 · 06/04/2023 10:14

I'm sick of the sight of DM, prancing about like a toddler on a ton of sugar. Just fuck off already pal.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 06/04/2023 10:14

Oh just seen it's already been posted.

We're moving backwards.

They need to state that then. This is even more offensive than that bloke with his package stuffed in Seafolly bikini bottoms

Jackiebrambles · 06/04/2023 09:25

Yes this has really annoyed me. This influencer is just mocking women. Of all the strong, impressive sports women they could have chosen to flog their gear. Dylan would probably have a coronary if he ran 5k he looks so unhealthy. Sod off Nike.

5K? Judging by that performance the end of the garden 😂

AuntieStella · 06/04/2023 10:16

Nike sports bras aren't particularly good in the first place, so I'm not surprised they want to try something outlandish just to get attention

(Look at MN threads on best sports bras, it's all Shock Absorber, plus Panache if you want underwired)

Run like a girl? 😂😂🙄

Myogapants · 06/04/2023 10:16

Oh god. It must be fake!

dietcokelime · 06/04/2023 10:19

I'm just so glad to see an advert that is advertising a product so well.

It's a crap sports bra anyway, which is why they're advertising it on someone with no boobs!

My3cents1 · 06/04/2023 10:19

I just want the world to stop so I can jump off ffs.

Turnipworkharder · 06/04/2023 10:20

He's very unhealthy looking, isn't he ?

It looks like a toddler trying to imitate an adult.

newdocket · 06/04/2023 10:20

YANBU. I am also offended!

IncaTrail · 06/04/2023 10:25

That’s a shame. I thought Nike women was for women, you know, boobs and hips and all.

I’ll just have to shop elsewhere then.

MsJD · 06/04/2023 10:26

With more and more trans women in women's sport, perhaps thats the target market?

Mynameisntrelevant · 06/04/2023 10:28

Is it actually Nike?? I won't buy for ne or dd or ds from Nike again if so. Ridiculous and insulting.

ValBiro · 06/04/2023 10:30

@Everydayshouldbe wow I'd never seen that ad before, I know it's essentially to push a product and I know they worked hard with the emotional music score but it properly got me in the feels! It's so sad isn't it? The internalised misogyny as well as the plain every day misogyny! I always work hard to pick up on the Every Day Sexism of people around me and "like a girl" will be back up on my radar.
