To be offended by Nike?

My go-to sports brand is launching a new sports bra using a transwoman influencer.

What are they trying to communicate to me, their target audience? That their new sports bras are too wide in the back and have no extra space and good support for my breasts?

I would have thought a fair bit of biological reality goes into designing sports clothing for men and women, to ensure maximum comfort and optimum performance.

I feel… mocked. Is this what Nike thinks women are?

The funny thing is, Nike do have history of politics and appearing right-on, but on this occasion they’ve missed the train by 2 years… I invite you to consider carefully where you spend your woman-money.

@highfidelity I agree Dylan is a female impersonator - as are many under the 'trans umbrella'. He's Dame Edna styled in Audrey Hepburn.

Isn't/wasn't Dylan an actor before he transed from a gay man to his female role?

I assume he must feel his female act must be getting a bit old (i.e. not as lucrative as it could be) as he's now started on his next 'role' - a 6 year old girl who lives in a luxury hotel called Eloise 😂

What I don't get is why would a young, good looking gay man carve up his face and embarrass himself like this just to make money? He must really love money.

Have been watching Dylan for some time now. Before his journey into girlhood, he was a seemingly normal gay man (albeit one who was camp and prone to being overly dramatic and exaggerated in his mannerisms, who having gained little traction in his acting and performing career, decided to pivot into what we see today. I feel strongly it was a calculated decision. Yes, he's had facial feminising surgery but he's not taking any hormones to aid his transition. Indeed, there appears to be little, well, evidence of anything anything to support his transition other than a recent declaration that he's known since he was four he wanted to be a girl.

This whole 365 days of girlhood screams of being a project, done entirely for attention, preferably in the form of likes and followers on social media.

Hopefully he will help peak even more people.

@L3ThirtySeven
Bras, sports or otherwise, are not about concealing nipples ffs.

Emigratingimmigrant · 06/04/2023 12:00

Nike knew backlash is coming hence high promo of women in football in the last couple of days

jetadore · 06/04/2023 12:01

Nike: has a long and well documented history of deeply unethical and exploitative behaviour (including women and girls working in sweatshops making their tat)
Mumsnet: I sleep

Weirdo cosplayer tags Nike on a tweet. Mumsnet: Real shit

“I love their stuff, but they’ve lost me as a customer” 🤣

It’s not even from a Nike account. I’d be willing to bet you’ll all be back to buying their sweatshop shit soon enough once the warm glow of your perfomative outrage wears off.

You sound more likely to be enjoying the warm glow of performative outrage with this post.

But apparently it is a paid ad ie sponsored content so it is linked to Nike.

Tiredalwaystired · 06/04/2023 12:19

I’m certain this isnt genuine. If you have a look at the @ on Twitter it’s for a Nike page with 45 followers. Someone may have already said this.

This page has been designed to rile you.

JKTrolling · 06/04/2023 12:19

I’m sorry you are triggered and well done for being brave enough to put your head above the parapet and post here.

I hear that cancelling brands that trigger you is quite the rage these days. Perhaps you could try that too?

legalalien · 06/04/2023 12:24

DS came to show me this yesterday, I had never heard of DM and took some convincing that it wasn’t satire. Then he wound me up more by showing me this Day 1 of being a girl YouTube video

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FttyV9IEzlc

WTAF? Surely DM doesn’t mean this and is just making a light entertainment career?

Now I think more about it, I think transpeople should be offended too.

Instead of putting real money and effort in their politics (a new separate sports line - women’s designs, but cut for male bodies), they just chucked $50k at this influencer (nothing money for Nike’s marketing budget).

So it’s cheap virtue signalling, they don’t give a damn about creating sportswear for transpeople.

Bit like changing corp logos to the tiresome rainbow for the entire June, except on their Middle East accounts.

I just find it hard to believe that nobody at nike could think of a more influential sportswoman.

The messages I get from this are: the bra won’t fit because I have breasts and this looks more like a crop top aimed at a man.
They aren’t designed for actual exercise above a moderate level and they are more of a fashion brand for prancing around in.

Whatdoesitmatterif · 06/04/2023 12:32

You all need to go outside and touch grass. this is the most ridiculous thread I have read in a while.
im sure Nike are quaking in their boots at being boycotted by a few anti-trans Mumsnet users.

Is it though? Look we all like a bit of performative outrage, which is why you need to apply a bit of critical thinking especially when related to issues close to your heart. Otherwise as pp said you end up sounding like a trump supporter.

JMSA · 06/04/2023 12:38

Ridiculous, I agree.

Dylan is on hormones, or certainly was at some point. Has definitely talked about it on tiktok

This person is specifically covered on advanced DSL (safeguarding) training or schools
A compilitaion video of what they say is shocking

I haven’t said anything sounding like a Trump supporter. I don’t think anyone has bar the stupid upper lower case writing that a pp used.

I would prefer clarification on whether it’s a sponsored post or not as posts seem to vary on it. I don’t know this person nor use Twitter

That advert is so awful! The idiotic music (apart from all the rest of it)

Merida46 · 06/04/2023 12:57

Remember this advert for Bounty towels? It was removed because an organisation called Trans Media Watch complained that it was offensive to transvestites yet here we have a man, pretending quite badly to be a woman, advertising bras!
P.S. He also advertises Tampax. You can only guess where he puts that!😱

Is he taking the piss out of Nike or women, I can't really tell? The narrative seemed to be "this is how Nike think women exercise".
I can't get upset about a brand mixing gendered clothing in general btw, my dd never buys women's hoodie for example. In this case though I'm not sure what this guy is trying to achieve or say; whatever is is isn't working.

All with you on the screw gendered clothing angle - I only ever buy men's socks (quality) or men's dress shirts (they cover my butt.)

However, as far as sports bras, I kinda thought the whole point of them was to keep ...things.. from jiggling and bouncing around while you're running or otherwise exercising? Sorta like why even male nudists don't actually run in the buff - at least the info from my male friends is this could turn out to get exceedingly painful. Dylan dude doesn't seem to have a valid reason for putting on that perfectly ridiculous and ugly top. He could just as easily simply paint one on. Odd advertising, demonstrating your goods aren't fit for purpose.

ILikeTrueCrime · 06/04/2023 13:10

Didn't even realise about Tampax! 🙄

TheMatriarchy · 06/04/2023 13:12

It's a perfect example of 'woman-face' - a mocking parody performed for money by a member of the oppressor group. Utterly disgusting.

highfidelity · 06/04/2023 13:12

@Lellochip He's no longer taking any cross sex hormones. I discovered this during the time he had his facial feminisation surgery. Will try to find the source for you.

Whoopsmahoot · 06/04/2023 13:13

the things you got to do for money and attention - who knew.? So disrespectful to women. And no I am not a cis woman- I am a woman, get it right.

SaltedButty · 06/04/2023 13:19

So women aren't good enough to advertise products for women now. OK
