'Queen' Camilla

Replitad · 04/04/2023 23:12

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before now but I think the 'Queen' Camilla thing has tipped me over the edge.

Pretty audacious considering their history and I think a lot of the public won't agree. I certainly won't be celebrating or even watching coronation.

Im sure they’ll be gutted.

And FYI her title is Camilla, Queen Consort.

BashfulClam · 04/04/2023 23:15

…but she is the Queen consort as she is married to the monarch so her title is ‘Queen’.

No it isnt- not on the invites- the consort is dumped

And a blue dress- who else wore an iconic blue outfit (for their engagement with a matching ring)

It's being changed from Queen Consort to just 'Queen' after it's been in the news today. Supposedly this is against Queen Elizabeth 's wishes

They should have just let him marry her in the beginning and all this could have been avoided. I'm glad she is just Queen now Queen Consort just sounded silly and as much as we all love out elderly parents we don't have to carry on appeasing them after they have passed away.

Justcallmebebes · 04/04/2023 23:20

Well I'm no royalist and lean towards republicanism, but I like Camilla. She's more than earned her place IMO and I have no problem with her being Queen Camilla

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/04/2023 23:22

Where does it say she's just queen camilla?

HappinessDragon · 04/04/2023 23:22

I’m Team Queen. Shit happens. Life happens. Let people be happy with their partners for goodness sake. This was not a one way street.
Also, it doesn’t affect my life in any way. How does it affect yours op?

RoseslnTheHospital · 04/04/2023 23:22

I doubt the Queen would have been against what is a long long tradition of the King's wife being referred to simply as "Queen" without the consort part. And there's also a long history of royals having affairs, extra marital children, scandals and so on. Same old same old.

I'm a republican because of the concept of royalty not because of the behaviour of individual royals.

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/04/2023 23:23

Never mind, just seen it on the BBC news website.

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/04/2023 23:24

Was the queen mother not known as Queen Elizabeth when her husband was king?

LeggyLinda · 04/04/2023 23:25

But she is Queen Camilla.
she is the consort to the king. Just like Queen Elizabeth (Queen mother) was. And Queen Mary before her and … etc, etc.

I’m not convinced they’re going to change centuries of tradition just for you. But you could start a petition - you never know, someone might be drunk enough to sign it.

Wedoronron · 04/04/2023 23:25

He wasn't held at gun point to marry Diana. He should have not married her. Or has children with her. That is so hideous when he didn't love her.
If the royal family made him than how fucking awful are they and why are we as country putting them up on a pedestal. Honestly it should be over and anyone supporting them needs to question their moral compass.

Snugglemonkey · 04/04/2023 23:26

No other queen consort has been referred to as such. They have just been Queen X. This is normal and was inevitable.

maddy68 · 04/04/2023 23:26

She is the kings wife. She's queen.

They didn’t stop him from marrying her in the bloody first place.

She didn’t want to marry him, she chose Andrew PB.

TeenLifeMum · 04/04/2023 23:27

You seem to have confused “Queen” with “angle” - two different things. You never fully know what goes on behind closed doors but history tells us most monarchs had affairs so it’s hardly a big scandal and they’ve been together quite a while now so unlikely to run off with the French prime minister or a horny footman.

Vanderlayinfustries · 04/04/2023 23:27

When they married they promised she would never be queen

Tradition was broken when the marriage was allowed! So it shouldn't be followed for naming protocol.

I'm with the op

It was not against QE's wishes. She gave them her blessing.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 04/04/2023 23:27

For goodness sake Let it go, she’s Queen Camilla.

JMSA · 04/04/2023 23:28

I couldn't give a flying fuck about them.

'Supposedly'. Says who?

JMSA · 04/04/2023 23:28

But I'll be happy with a day off work.

Who promised? What tradition was broken when the marriage was allowed?
