'Queen' Camilla

Replitad · 04/04/2023 23:12

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before now but I think the 'Queen' Camilla thing has tipped me over the edge.

Pretty audacious considering their history and I think a lot of the public won't agree. I certainly won't be celebrating or even watching coronation.

When did they ever promise Camilla wouldn’t be Queen?

Queen Elizabeth stated it was a wish of hers that Camilla be titled as Queen Consort. That’s good enough for me

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 04/04/2023 23:34

Assuming you meant Camilla not Kate - yes. If KCIII does first she will have a title of some sort. Like the Queen Mother did.

No meant when Charles dies and William becomes king.

Ineedwinenow · 04/04/2023 23:36

Just before her death Diana and Charles were apparently friends and both had moved on, so maybe you should too OP, Charles and Camilla have been together for a couple of decades now, you surely should be over the hurt and upset by now.

Camilla seems to be a great asset to the Royal Family , I’m a keen supporter of hers due to the domestic violence and animal charities she support and she genuinely seems to care about them all so I’ve got no reason to be upset about her being queen, she deserves something from all the shite she had to deal with from the press and public over Diana

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/04/2023 23:33

So will Kate be queen consort until Williams coronation then be queen Catherine?

I would think she'll be Queen Catherine straight away, as they're not going to replace a Queen Regnant. I think referring to Camilla as Queen is correct, but so many people associated that title with QE2.

I didn’t hate the design until I saw the lettuce with a face at the bottom. Wtf!?!

A tampon would have been more appropriate 🙊

It’s somewhere between hilarious and tragic that, out of all the obvious rationales for ending the monarchy forthwith, the thing that’s made you (mildly) republican is that the current king, like swathes of previous ones, shagged around while married.

There's plenty of other reasons too but this whole episode just encapsulates everything that's wrong with it.

I had a lot of respect for QE2 but monarchy should have ended with her.

I did mean ‘dies’ it typed ‘does’ 🤦🏼‍♀️

DappledThings · 04/04/2023 23:35

No. From the day Charles dies she will be both Queen Katherine and Katherine, Queen Consort. Same as Camilla is and has been.

I more meant that will she be mentioned as the queen consort then it'll dropped when William is crowned like they've done with Charles and camilla.

Suppose it depends how long charles lives
i can’t imagine she will stay with him once the children are grown up

Why on Earth wouldn’t she?!

BashfulClam · 04/04/2023 23:35

It’s a Green Man not a lettuce.

I think the symbolism behind the imagery on that invitation will pass unnoticed by many.

Isittimeformynapyet · 04/04/2023 23:38

It would sound strange if Prince Albert was called King Consort or just King Albert. Wonder why it's different for men and women.

That was my only thought really. I genuinely couldn't give a fig what she's called. It has no impact on my life at all.

She will be both; Queen Catherine married to King William but she will perform the role of Queen Consort as opposed to the late Queen who was Queen Regnant . The Queen Consort is a ceremonial role , Queen Regnant is a constitutional role and is the actual monarch. Unlike Queen Elizabeth , Catherine and Camilla do not sign Acts of Parliament or have their face on coins etc

LadyVictoriaSponge · 04/04/2023 23:39

forget how royalist everyone in here is not necessarily royalist but realists, marriages don’t always last and even if Camilla never existed I don’t think Charles and Diana would have had a long and happy marriage so it would still have been another woman who became Queen or no Queen at all.

I think it's different as a king is above a queen?

Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

She’ll be HM The Queen and HM Queen Catherine from the moment William is king, just as Camilla was.

what she’ll be known as between the two will likely depend on press and public feeling at the time, if Camilla is still alive and how long Camilla has been Queen for.

The Queen Consort thing was mostly to differentiate Camilla from QEII. For example if they’d said “The King will travel back to London from Balmoral accompanied by the Queen” people would have assumed he was accompanying his mother’s body as “HM The Queen” in everyone’s heads was QEII.

Less likely. Catherine will become Queen following another Queen Consort, unlike Camilla who is following on from a Queen Regnant who had been "the Queen" for decades. So it won't have the same impact suddenly having a new Queen did this time for many people. Not me personally but lots were very upset!

I call him Charles III and her Camilla.

I don't think of them as King and Queen.

I don't think I will bother now with William either. He has gone totally woke, working with Arden who presided over the most violent misogynistic county in the English speaking countries.

I still don't want a politician, we have enough in parliament.

I hope Charles keeps his tampon fingers away from acidic tight spaces and help the swelling so that ring fits.

Because society was (and remains to a degree) massively sexist! Kings outrank Queens, hence Albert and Phillip remaining Princes instead.

neverending2 · 04/04/2023 23:41

I agree with you OP didn't they say she would be Princess Consort when she married Charles or was that just them trying to keep the little people happy. The whole institution is a joke and the sooner they get rid the better.

That makes sense. As I remember huw Edwards saying the king and Queen consort, so like you say to differentiate. But by the time William becomes king we will be used to king.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 04/04/2023 23:43

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl, my understanding is that she will after the coronation be known as queen Camilla.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 04/04/2023 23:44

The invitation looks like it's been made using one of those greeting card craft sets that they sell on that cheapo shopping channel, the Poundland version of QVC.

Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 · 04/04/2023 23:45

Are both Charles and Camilla being crowned?
'Coronation of their majesties' is the first line of the invitation.
