'Queen' Camilla

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before now but I think the 'Queen' Camilla thing has tipped me over the edge.

Pretty audacious considering their history and I think a lot of the public won't agree. I certainly won't be celebrating or even watching coronation.

Yes I think the reality of immorality might kick in at that point. A sense that something not quite right about it or just a disatisfying distasteful niggle.

I doubt it very much. It all happened over 30 years ago. I think sensible people have got over it by now.

LBFseBrom · 11/04/2023 12:51

I don't know how this thread diverted to Prince Andrew but as he has been mentioned above, it was his intention to counter sue his accuser. The 'firm' anticipated that would draw the business out longer with even more publicity than they wanted and insisted he settle so it was done. Personally I feel that was an unsatisfactory ending, would have preferred him to counter sue, but it is typical of the royal firm.

Others similarly accused did counter sue, in one case the accuser backed down saying she may have got it wrong so that really was done and dusted. I don't know about any others she accused, stopped reading about it.

What a shower! It makes me so glad I am not famous.

What church and service was Fergie going to each Christmas and Easter? Couldn't Andrew keep her company?

They're divorced, why would he? Does Fergie even go to church these days?

They live together.

They’re basically divorced in name only.

bellabasset · 11/04/2023 13:18

The old Queen referred to Camilla as the Queen Consort so it was inevitable that this would more likely altered to the Queen. The Monarchy has been an outdated institution even when Queen Elizabeth was crowned. She'd been on the throne for such a long time that while I think people were sad to see her reign come to an end change is needed

It was interesting to see that the old restrictions the Queen set out have already changed with Kate wearing red nail polish to church instead of the pale pink the Queen favoured.

AskMeMore · 11/04/2023 13:47

Andrew and Sarah live in the same house, they each have their own wing.
Unlike some other Royal married couples who have their own house.

Presumably they're not together when he stays with his brother.

I can’t imagine Andrew stays at Clarence House very often.

She lives at Royal Lodge with him and by all accounts spent the last two Christmases with the royals so she is around them.

They’re basically an unmarried couple. Her seating position at the Queen’s funeral showed she’s basically part of the family, just not alongside Andrew as his wife.

They could have their own house if they wanted, they used to but Andrew sold it, it was too big and unmanageable when he and the Duchess parted. They also owned a big chalet house at a ski resort but he sold that fairly recently.

I saw an interview with Sarah not long ago in which she was asked if she and Andrew would re-marry. She said that was not going to happen, they'd had their time and it was over but they were the best of friends. Who knows? Not our business anyway..

LBFseBrom · 11/04/2023 15:08

Getting back to the thread title, Queen Camilla is the queen consort, the wife of the king always is; however they are just addressed as 'Queen'. King Charles's maternal grandmother was queen consort, it's just how it is but it would be a bit of mouthful to address them like that.

Schmutter · 11/04/2023 15:38

Isn’t it ludicrous to think how controlled they are/were, that even nail varnish wearing was subject to arbitrary rules?

All so utterly daft.

Nice come back. King Charles and his Queen will be the head of the church. I don't think they qualify.

They probably could have worn coloured nail polish if they wanted to but out of respect for HMQ stuck to her preferences.

Obviously it only applied whilst working.

There's probably other jobs where it's not allowed/encouraged?

I think only the King is Head of the Church, and he qualifies by virtue of being King. If there was a morality requirement, the C of E wouldn't exist at all when you consider who the founding head was.

Quick reply. Morality can't be kicked to the curb. Not really. Not in this day and age.

LBFseBrom · 11/04/2023 12:40

Again ObstinateHeadstrong, referring to your post in which you mention people with whom the royals have had an association, who turned out to be unsavoury, have you never liked or admired someone who was eventually revealed to be quite dreadful? I have and it was quite a shock, difficult to believe at first, I've also known others who have had the same experience.

The ones you mention had many 'friends' in high places, not just royals. However none of them had real friends, they couldn't have managed that.

Those sort of people beguile others with wit, charm, even eccentricity. They are extremely plausible and manipulative.

They make our adulterous, bed hopping royals and aristocrats look saintly by comparison.

I think you’ve got the wrong person as I didn’t post a list of any kind!

That woman knows where the bodies are buried doesn’t she!

I heard her on an Alan Carr podcast recently and she alluded to the hell she experienced when she divorced Andrew and she exiled herself to the US. So a bit odd how they’re best buds.

Why would the morality of some people usurp the constitution? And what morality? Are we only talking about sexual morality, or should the church also, for instance, prohibit members of the government for its immoral policies? How about the church's own members, many of whom are less than spotless in terms of, for instance, both adultery and prevention of child abuse?

Ocsetldil · 11/04/2023 17:15

Where’s Rousette?? She’s usually on these threads.

Ocsetldil · 11/04/2023 17:16

I tried tagging her and the username doesn’t exist.

Ocsetldil · 11/04/2023 17:17

Do you already have to be on a thread to be tagged?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/04/2023 17:20

Roussette has two letters s in it - maybe that's why the tag didn't work?
