£3k for 1 Week in the LAKES!

£3k
1 week
August Holiday

Hi everyone,
Hoping someone can help.

Booking our second holiday for the 6 week break.

We're having our big holiday in May to Ikos, and so for this holiday I was thinking of a week in the Lakes to our usual spot;

Lodge
Hot tub
Village location

But its £2k for a week in August and we will need a grand for spends and £3k for a week in the lakes seems ridiculous.

Any ideas on what we can do with a £3k budget?

I'm tempted by another all inclusive abroad, but obviously a lot less luxurious than Ikos (as at least it would mean guaranteed sun and I'm not having to cook or unload a dishwasher for a week!)

If you want a waterside location with a lodge and hot tub try Tummell Valley (Scotland) there is a riverside/lochside site I think it is owned by Parkdean? It is a stunning location and there is also plenty to see and do in the area.

In fact, if you're planning to have lunch and tea out every day, what are you buying for the £100 food shop?

We have 10 nights in Cornwall with our own private outdoor heated swimming pool and bbq hut for £1k

Would you mind sharing a link for this?

www.holgates.co.uk/

This place is lovely, £1250 for a caravan in August.

£200 food shop
Circa £100 left a day
To cover pub lunch & tea and an activity
Could easily be more than £1k spends thinking about it!

@CheshGirl

why do you need a £200 supermarket shop if you’re going to be having lunch and dinner out??

The Sun £9.50 holiday offer??

I'm with you there 😂

Not shocked at €2000 for a week in the Lakes. Shocked that you need €1000 to spend. We go every year and spend nowhere near that amount. How many of there are you. There are 4 of us. Sorry about € sign, keyboard is set up for Italian and no longer has a pound sign!

Off topic but I have this issue on a US keyboard and this works on my PC to get the £ sign

Alt+0163 (on numpad with Num Lock on)

You must be mad, and prob bad weather I only ever go to family in Spain normally mid September, about 5 days, cheap.
This year new cat, so a few days together here with brother, in early May, dreading the lack of good weather, real heat.
i seriously would hate hol park

StopitSarah · 26/03/2023 16:28

@maddening where is this Cornwall bargain?!?!?

BorisJohnsonsHair · 26/03/2023 16:29

This place Ivy Farm is lovely. Couple of minutes walk to a fantastic beach. Village location. And much less wet than the Lake District!

Most expensive is £900 in the summer.

There isn't one. Read their second post. It is a friend's house.

windmill26 · 26/03/2023 16:32

Somewhere abroad even all inclusive and less fancy than Ikos. if I am spending £3K I want good weather guaranteed. Have a look at Portugal.

BillyNoM8s · 26/03/2023 16:33

I looked at Ikos recently cos someone recommended it on here. They wanted the best part of €30k for a week in August. The mind boggles Confused

I'm not tight by any stretch of the imagination but I can't imagine extracting €30k worth of value from a Greek hotel. I paid similar to go to Antarctica/South Georgia/Falklands, which is a somewhat different experience.

If you're spending that level of money in May, quite frankly I'd suck it up and pay the £3k for what you want at the lakes.

Do you really need to ask?

maybe pick one of these destinations:

Is it just me but I have never heard of the lakes!

You’ve never heard of the Lake District?

Also one of the children is only 2!
I don't know what the expensive activities are.

UsernameMcUsername · 26/03/2023 16:39

Yikes! We're doing nine nights in France in the May half term for not much more than half that. I can't wrap my head round spending £3k to go on holiday in the country you live in anyway.

Well, it's the Lake District, which is just stunning.
Still pricey, but they do spend a lot on food.

ColdHandsHotHead · 26/03/2023 16:42

I'm not kidding I live in a holiday area and prices are the same degree of insane here. Added to that, it rains a lot and last year in July it rained most days and people had paid that kind of money to sit in a caravan and look at it.

userxx · 26/03/2023 16:42

Deathbyfluffy · 26/03/2023 16:03

Try the Canary Islands. Very reasonable and guaranteed sun

I'd go with this option.

A £200 food shop for 2 adults and 2 very young children is ridiculous if you’re also budgeting £100 for pub lunches & tea each day! £200 could easily cover a weeks food including lunch and tea.

DarkDarkNight · 26/03/2023 16:45

Is this a parody? It sounds too cringe to be real.

You don’t need to mention this will be your second holiday within the 6 week break. You don’t need to say how your second 3k holiday won’t be anywhere near as luxurious as the first.

I'm tempted by another all inclusive abroad, but obviously a lot less luxurious than Ikos

I live near the Lakes. It’s obviously crowded in August, if you get the weather it’s glorious but if you’re unlucky you’ll wish you were abroad with guaranteed sun. Book an all inclusive with lots of child-focused activities with slides and pools and relax about what other people think about you. It may not impress your friends on Social Media quite as much but your children will thank you for it.

Zuffe · 26/03/2023 16:31

LOL maybe you should read their second post because that isn't what they said at all. It's very common for rentals to let you book direct and cut out the middle man for repeat bookings.

BigChesterDraws · 26/03/2023 16:46

I’m not sure why people are posting links and names of cheaper places in the Lakes. OP has already said she’s not looking for something cheaper. She can afford the £3k she would be spending on this but is wondering if she can get anything else for £3k that might be abroad. She’s not trying to stay in the same area for less.

And £200 food shop plus £100 a day for lunch, tea rooms, snacks is easily done.
