£3k for 1 Week in the LAKES!

£3k
1 week
August Holiday

Hi everyone,
Hoping someone can help.

Booking our second holiday for the 6 week break.

We're having our big holiday in May to Ikos, and so for this holiday I was thinking of a week in the Lakes to our usual spot;

Lodge
Hot tub
Village location

But its £2k for a week in August and we will need a grand for spends and £3k for a week in the lakes seems ridiculous.

Any ideas on what we can do with a £3k budget?

I'm tempted by another all inclusive abroad, but obviously a lot less luxurious than Ikos (as at least it would mean guaranteed sun and I'm not having to cook or unload a dishwasher for a week!)

Those of you who think that a £200 holiday grocery shop is shocking for just breakfast and snacks, may I introduce you to the concept of… holiday drinking 🥂🍺🍹🍸🍾 Cheers all

Rachaelrachael · 26/03/2023 18:46

We're going to Ikos Olivia in May too (our 1st time) So excited!
How about one of the Landal parks? They have some lovely lodges with hot tubs plus loads of facilities for small kids. The one we go to at Darwin Forest has a pool, spa, gym, restaurant, soft play etc plus loads to do nearby in the peak district

Oldtigernidster · 26/03/2023 18:49

Go abroad. It might rain every day in the Lake District.

you coil get a cottage in Northumberland for around £1000 and have much more space, wonderful scenery and world heritage sites

And Northumberland has fantastic beaches, too.

justanothermummma · 26/03/2023 19:01

I'd suggest staying the Carlisle side of the Lakes, it's a reasonably short drive right into the Lakes and you'll save a fortune!

There are lovely lodges near us with hot tubs etc. and they are £110 a night in high season, far FAR cheaper than being in the National Park!

Favouritefruits · 26/03/2023 19:05

Book carnforth or Kendal instead, it’s on the edge of the lakes but will be much cheaper.

These cottages are in Cardigan Bay, west Wales, many have hot tubs and look like they would be cheaper than 2k for a week in August.

I can tell you that these are brilliant! We went last year and have booked again for this July Smile

I also think people are missing that the £100 is to cover an activity as well as food for the day. When on holiday in the UK we can easily spend £50-£60 for entry to an attraction, £30-£40 for lunch and then £10 on icecream/cake.

I happen to like holidaying in the UK and £3k sounds absolutely standard to me.

Bournetilly · 26/03/2023 20:10

What about Center Parcs Whinfell? You could do a day trip out of the park. It’s not the cheapest but imagine you’d spend less than 3K and with 5 and 2 year old DC they would love it.

No, we do not know the owners personally - we first booked through booking.com and then the owners gave us their business card so we can book direct - and it is cheaper direct than through a booking site, probably by about £300. Our first holiday was in May 2021 and that was 750 for the week,.then last August booking direct was 850ish for a week when it would have been around 1100 ish for the same week. This year we are doing 10 days as it incorporates the bank holiday weekend and we don't want to travel in the hell that is bank holiday traffic 🤣🤣

Sounds like you have a reasonable deal.

We have gone onto booking.com before, but were not happy with the standard of accommodation. It may have got better recently, but it used to be grim in the period 2008 - 2012. We have a few clients with Cornish homes so we tend to go there, but these are not commercial lettings. Giving out their details to by pass booking.com is a race to the bottom I suspect.

We normally leave from East Midlands around 16:00 and get to Sainsbury's Penzance for milk and bread before they shut. It is not a difficult trip if you leave at the right time.

Xarrie · 26/03/2023 20:34

I'd book a week in Greece

I spent all of August travelling around Albania in 2021. Spent less than £1500 including flights.

£3k for one week in the Lakes is ridiculous.

Add in Macedonia and Montenegro. Brilliant places to visit and everything a third of the prices, less crowded and absolutely stunning beaches and scenery.

We have 10 nights in Cornwall with our own private outdoor heated swimming pool and bbq hut for £1k

In August???

5 and 2 year olds are quite happy doing activities that don't cost £50-£60.
In fact I'm actually struggling (on the basis that at least the 2 year old will be free at lots of places) to think of anything in the lake district that would cost this amount of money.
And most families don't spend out on pricey activities every day. They intersperse them with pottering (pun intended) round the countryside.

@CheshGirl, here you go - a thread on where to actually find a holiday for £3k, other than the lakes, with (hopefully) none of the distractions about your daily budget etc...

I would go abroad , nicer food , nicer weather , nicer people

runforyourdog · 26/03/2023 21:39

You could just have a look on TUI or Jet2 for an idea! I really struggle to pay more than about 2.5k on a holiday. Too tight!

We are going here, in July though but <£3k I think we've got half board. We have been before, not the most amazing hotel but perfectly adequate.

runforyourdog · 26/03/2023 21:41

We would also easily spend £100 a day on holiday OP.

Try Croatia. Really beautiful.
