£3k for 1 Week in the LAKES!

£3k
1 week
August Holiday

Hi everyone,
Hoping someone can help.

Booking our second holiday for the 6 week break.

We're having our big holiday in May to Ikos, and so for this holiday I was thinking of a week in the Lakes to our usual spot;

Lodge
Hot tub
Village location

But its £2k for a week in August and we will need a grand for spends and £3k for a week in the lakes seems ridiculous.

Any ideas on what we can do with a £3k budget?

I'm tempted by another all inclusive abroad, but obviously a lot less luxurious than Ikos (as at least it would mean guaranteed sun and I'm not having to cook or unload a dishwasher for a week!)

7 nights in Keswick Reach in August for a family of 4 is only around £800. I've stayed there lots and the lodges are brilliant. They are a bit out of Keswick but totally worth it.

But it doesn’t have to. I could easily spend that. Because I can. Not everyone is on the same income. Not everyone is struggling. I understood “tea” to be cups of tea (and possibly cake) on a tea room. Dinner is what I call the evening meal. So the £200 is for breakfast and dinner and £100 a day for lunch, tea, cake, ice cream, snacks, etc.

Agreed if you can afford it you can easily spend that much, but the OP is complaining the holiday is too expensive but that is largely because she has set herself a significant budget for food. I’m just pointing out she could easily cut down on the spending money budget if she doesn’t want to spend £3k.

@CheshGirl on your actual question of where else you might go for £3k with those ages of children, I suggest Crieff Hydro up in Perthshire. Wonderful landscapes, a lot less crowding on the roads etc. The hotel is on the edge of Crieff town which is pretty and has places to eat. It’s got lodges and hotel rooms, more childten’s activities than you can count, 2h a day of included childcare (!) at a sort of soft play kids club, and one family pool plus a beautiful Victorian adult only pool.

Is this a stealth boast for how much you can spend on holidays this year? Considering how much the Ikos Olivia costs I’m surprised you’re about the cost.

Never heard of Ikos...now looked. 3K per week per person in August on a Greek Island.

Just come back from the Lakes this weekend. Crowded and expensive. Queues to get into cafes etc. We have booked all inclusive with Emirates to Dubai in August and roughly same budget as you are looking at. Good luck

We have 10 nights in Cornwall with our own private outdoor heated swimming pool and bbq hut for £1k

Either not in the school holidays, or in a very untouristy part of Cornwall, surely?

Bekstar · 27/03/2023 18:15

Have you tried the cottages.com website

littlefireseverywhere · 27/03/2023 18:38

How about Brittany, do a chalet or similar on a campsite? That’ll be cheaper, some great locations & cheaper break too.

TrainersAltonTowersWontKill · 27/03/2023 18:41

Ryanair to cologne and 6 nights at 4 star landhaus danielhof is just over 1k for the last week of august.

Village location, castles, lakes and better weather than here!

begoneday · 27/03/2023 18:43

The lakes are overpriced because it’s a well trodden tourist trail. There are far more interesting and beautiful places if you’re willing to be a bit adventurous.

Try Croatia. Really beautiful.

I second this.

RachelHRD · 27/03/2023 18:52

Malta is lovely and you could do all inclusive for around £3k. The DB resorts are nice and kid friendly.

Where do you suggest? I'm always looking for somewhere different.

Just go to somewhere in Europe with good weather, good food and feel like you are on holiday. I am a single parent and go where the cheap flights take me- I cannot afford the UK.
With young children (and now a teen) Eurocamp type places have provided amazing holidays if you find one that suits you. We have never used Eurocamp but search using the allcamps website. During covid (so obviously much cheaper than usual) we stayed in central Tuscany at a site we had visited before when DH was alive for under £400 for 10 nights in a lodge tent with kitchen and bathroom. It was really lovely. There were 2 huge pool complexes, amazing views and easy access to all of Tuscany. You may think it is not your thing but when little, seeing DD fall in love with kids clubs, mini discos and making a whole load of little friends made the holidays magical. You can eat out or BBQ. It is a very relaxed way of life!

Not a chance I could cope with Dubai in August. That's some serious heat holiday.

Yikes, good luck with that in August! I used to live in the region and I really like hot weather but even I was mostly indoors in the aircon then.

I was just thinking the same! You'd just have to sit in the air con.

Christie70 · 27/03/2023 19:35

Try Ravenglass. Beautiful village. Quiet, foot of the hills, a lovely steam train to take you into the hills, a couple of nice pubs and a beach for swimming or lazing instead of the hot tub.

Galadali · 27/03/2023 19:43

We've just booked a beautiful place in Ambleside for a week in August. Just under £1k for 6 of us. No hot tub, but otherwise it looks top notch. We looked at log cabin/lodge sites but I think they're really overpriced. You can do much better for less!

GlasgowGal82 · 27/03/2023 21:00

I've just had a look on cottages.com and have found a week in a two-bed cottage with a hot-tub for £1100 and there are various options without a hot-tub for £500-600. You can definitely do a week in the Lake District for less than £3000 if you want to, especially if you self-cater rather than eating out for every meal.

AnnieSnap · 27/03/2023 21:05

I fancied staying in a small (sleeps 2), but lovely lodge with a hot tub on a farm in the Scottish Borders. £999 for 3 nights mid week, last week of June. So not even School holidays 🤷‍♀️ Is it any wonder people opt to go abroad instead?

Maireas · 27/03/2023 21:09

It seems as if a hot tub really inflates the price.

tillytoodles1 · 27/03/2023 21:24

We paid £1500 for a three bed house in Windermere Mon-Fri in September last year, so four nights at almost £400 a night. Its £600 a night in peak season, plus £5 a dog per night.

Fluffmum · 27/03/2023 22:02

Go to Spain or Turkey .
