£3k for 1 Week in the LAKES!

£3k
1 week
August Holiday

Hi everyone,
Hoping someone can help.

Booking our second holiday for the 6 week break.

We're having our big holiday in May to Ikos, and so for this holiday I was thinking of a week in the Lakes to our usual spot;

Lodge
Hot tub
Village location

But its £2k for a week in August and we will need a grand for spends and £3k for a week in the lakes seems ridiculous.

Any ideas on what we can do with a £3k budget?

I'm tempted by another all inclusive abroad, but obviously a lot less luxurious than Ikos (as at least it would mean guaranteed sun and I'm not having to cook or unload a dishwasher for a week!)

Look in the peaks, found multiple options for around £1000, most don't have a hot tub, though I found one with an indoor jacuzzi for £712 for the week!

£200 food shop when you’re having lunch and tea out and one of the four people is a two year old? 🧐

We have 10 nights in Cornwall with our own private outdoor heated swimming pool and bbq hut for £1k

In august?

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 26/03/2023 15:11

look away from the most obvious tourist sites. so instead of the lakes, what about the North Yorkshire moors, Scottish Borders, or Northern Cumbria? You'd get something decent for £800-1400 in the school holidays, depending on your requirements. Or the Llyn in North wales if you fancy coastal?

maddening · 26/03/2023 15:12

Yes, 23rd August to 2nd Sept

Babyroobs · 26/03/2023 15:14

Wow that is a lot for a second holiday within a few weeks. We booked one mon-fri in Somerset for our daughters 18th. Hot tub, mini spa, luxury lodge etc but this is at the end of June. I guess anything is going to be expensive if you are restricted to school holidays.

Can’t beat Northumberland. So much better than Cornwall

KindergartenKop · 26/03/2023 15:18

Go to Wales instead.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/03/2023 15:18

Lakes in August is so, so busy. Not just pedestrians, traffic jams in all of the pretty towns and villages.

Also very popular in school holidays so suspect cottage costs will be on a par with Lake District.

Lucky i checked 20th August to 30th 🤣

gwrachod · 26/03/2023 15:27

OP, people are stuck on the lakes!

I'd also like to know where you can go for £3k. If you don't get a lot of suggestions it might be worth re-posting just asking where you can book for £3k, and leaving out the bit about the Lakes until you've had a few responses at least.

Namechangenoidea · 26/03/2023 15:27

Is it just me but I have never heard of the lakes!

Doris86 · 26/03/2023 15:27

If you are buying a pub lunch every day, what other food do you need to buy that is costing £200 for a week?

The Lake District. A rather large area in the North West if England

gamerchick · 26/03/2023 15:31

I'm also wondering why you need a 200 quid food shop if you're eating out every day.

You can be minted and still think smart you know OP when it comes to this stuff.

Love the lakes me. Awesome place

Verbena17 · 26/03/2023 15:33

Center Parcs Whinfell would be cheaper than that!

jumpinsback · 26/03/2023 15:34

I could not part with that amount of money for a domestic holiday when the weather may well be hit and miss. You'll easily get an all inclusive in a nice enough hotel abroad e.g Mallorca or similar. Pool and beach for the week so in theory you'd not need very much spending money at all

Lodges/caravans/mobile home type holidays that are on sites, certainly with fancy stuff like hot tubs are not good value

Just book a self catering cottage or annex if money is tight.

I have never (because we cant afford to) booked a site setting or caravan setting for holidays, they are just too expensive, I dont know how people afford the like

They're reasonable in France (Eurocamp etc), I've no idea why they're so expensive in the UK. We really like the Les Eaux site in south Normandy. The accomodation is better via the site direct, than via Eurocamp. With Eurotunnel, it's a fairly cheap family holiday. Or the ferry is less than an hour away, but that's more expensive.

£200 food shop
Circa £100 left a day
To cover pub lunch & tea and an activity
Could easily be more than £1k spends thinking about it!

How are you spending £100 a day on meals out AND £200 on a good shop? That seems like a lot.

Verbena17 · 26/03/2023 15:35

Woah - actually Center Parcs is over 2 grand but that’s for 7 days.

Yes just you. I wouldn't have you on my pub quiz team!
