Led by donkeys - enough is enough

Bloody hell, I’ve just watched the new “led by donkeys” video. People like Matt Hancock wanting to work for a fake consultancy firm for obscene amounts of cash.

I cannot tell You how angry MPs make me right now.

I have a relative that is an NHS dr on £14 an hour. She pays for her own travel and parking. All her study… she pays for. She is so busy she sometimes doesn’t eat.

then these idiots earn loads, and then claim back loads of expenses. Disgusting in my opinion. They then get second jobs that pay them £10k a day. Without even checking if company is real first.

In my opinion an mp should only take a second job if it’s in the nhs, army etc or a volunteer job for a registered charity. That’s it. No other reason.

I can’t even process this. I’ve had enough. What on earth can we do to change this? And yes I’ll not be voting Tory at the next election. They are a bunch of posh rich boys that want to just look after themselves. Politics should be more diverse. what on earth can we do?

You voted tory in the last election?

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 08:02

@Tiocfaigharla It’s not really relevant who I voted for last time. Since we last voted a lot of terrible behaviour has happened

The calibre of politicians is so bad, it re unforces the view that they are in politics because they can’t do anything else. Matt ‘the idiot’ Hancock, Gavin ‘the moron’ Williamson, Angela ‘oi scum’ Rayner, Rishi ‘the android’ Sunak, Keir ‘the perpetually anguished’ Starmer, Rachel ‘uh,uh,eh, Reeves. The rest are not even good at being crap, so not worth mentioning.

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 08:19

Besides I don’t think it is helpful to blame those that voted Tory last time. It does not help the future at all. Not does it do anything but anger people that could possibly vote for something else.

its like telling a kid that fell over and broke their arm that it’s their own fault.

not sure anyone could have predicted Covid, parties, I’m a celeb, snogging, Boris lying to this extent, rishi getting in, etc. it’s a soap opera!

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 08:22

And besides we are in a position where I don’t like any of them really. They are all totally crap so the alternative will likely fuck it up in a few years too. It’s the whole lot of them… rotten to the core.

I'd never vote Tory in my life. Scum

Never voted Tory.

I love the stuff led by donkeys do - genius!

It's more like telling a kid not to jump from the top of a tree because they'll hurt themselves and then watching as the kid not only jumps from top of the tree but grabs every other child and pulls them out as they plumet towards earth.

Politicians are simply a reflection of the people who vote for them and of wider society in general.

So... you accidentally voted Tory?

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 08:37

I don’t believe voting labour next time will help us. These idiots will still be able to have second jobs. They still earn £80k (and rising). They still make £1000s in expenses. They can still get away with doing the bare minimum of work. They still have tax loop holes that benefit them. They are all still an unethical bunch of people. All of them.

I’m a little worried they might get back in. But they are desperate aren’t they? Love Led by Donkeys.

Become an MP. That's what you can do.

NHS doctor on £14 an hour?
This is just not true.

LakeTiticaca · 26/03/2023 08:48

You are very naive if you think only tory MPs have second jobs, claim huge expenses, have second homes etc. They all do, yes even labour!!
Perhaps it is time for a new broom to sweep clean but who do you think is capable of running the country? Have a look back at the last Labour government.

The cash for honours, cronyism, illegal war, flogging off our gold reserves, raided our pension pots.
It wasn't quite the utopia people seem to think it was 😉

Kay00 · 26/03/2023 08:49

@Thisisvenus I'm sure I read this morning that Kier Starmer will stop MPs having a second job if Labour are voted in.

What I can't get my head around is how the have time for a second job??!!

I'm clearly doing something wrong...

The Led By Donkeys investigation revealed the vast majority of MPs who were earning 2nd incomes were Tories.

Honestly, you wonder why politicians get away with this sort of behaviour, yet here you are moaning about it and then immediately minimising it and claiming there's no point in even trying to hold them to account. No wonder the country is absolutely fucked.

YouSoundLovely · 26/03/2023 08:52

I think this group should change its name. It's an insult to donkeys, who are dignified, tenacious and dependable.

I don't think there's any point in castigating people who previously voted Tory and now consider that a mistake. What matters is people recognising how wrong things have gone and moving forward together, surely.

I don't believe all MPs are corrupt. There are plenty with lowish profiles doing good work quietly. The systems are currently open to abuse. But we as a society are in thrall to monetary success. You just need to look at many education and work-related threads on here to see that. If we had other values we would expect other things of our politicians.

MarquessofPembroke · 26/03/2023 08:53

Why don't people ficus on the main issue OP raised rather than calling the Tories scum and interrogate her as to how she voted?

Surely the issue is that it's legal for MPs to be paid to be "consultants" i.e. lobbyists? And we should demand that this is stopped.

UmbilicusProfundus · 26/03/2023 08:56

MPs probably need to be paid more to attract decent people and for them not to have to take second jobs. Unpopular opinion I know!

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/03/2023 08:58

Truss’ honours list is beyond the pale.

For those who have not watched the video referred to in the OP.
Matt Hancok, Gavin Williamson, Kwasi Kwarteng and Graham Brady feature, being willing to accept 10,000s pounds from a fake South Korean company.
The other MPs mentioned do not, and there I don't think form any part of this discussion.

Greenfairydust · 26/03/2023 08:59

I have never voted Tory in my life and never will.

Because I know that the health service. social care, schools, housing and our basic human and work rights are never safe in their hands.

I really applaud Led by Donkeys for doing this.

So much of our traditional media has been corrupted by politicians and has lost its independence so it is good to see social media being used to share such damning content and to avoid censorship.

Frankly anyone still thinking that the Tories have done a good job in the past 13 years and who still vote for them needs their head examined.

It has gone well past the concept of left and right politics at this stage.

It is about saving the country from corrupt, greedy and dangerously populist governments who have lost all sense of decency.

There used to be some decent Tory politicians who you might feel were genuinely committed to their work and to the country, but the current lot is literally destroying the country and our standards of living while lining their pockets.

We can't allow that to continue.

midgemadgemodge · 26/03/2023 08:59

MPs probably don't need to be paid more to attract decent people

Most people are decent and have more nouse than the average politician and work for a lot less

It's probably - the way everything is down to rhetoric coupled with a self awareness of their own weaknesses that keep most people out of politics
