Led by donkeys - enough is enough

Bloody hell, I’ve just watched the new “led by donkeys” video. People like Matt Hancock wanting to work for a fake consultancy firm for obscene amounts of cash.

I cannot tell You how angry MPs make me right now.

I have a relative that is an NHS dr on £14 an hour. She pays for her own travel and parking. All her study… she pays for. She is so busy she sometimes doesn’t eat.

then these idiots earn loads, and then claim back loads of expenses. Disgusting in my opinion. They then get second jobs that pay them £10k a day. Without even checking if company is real first.

In my opinion an mp should only take a second job if it’s in the nhs, army etc or a volunteer job for a registered charity. That’s it. No other reason.

I can’t even process this. I’ve had enough. What on earth can we do to change this? And yes I’ll not be voting Tory at the next election. They are a bunch of posh rich boys that want to just look after themselves. Politics should be more diverse. what on earth can we do?

Having come back from almost a couple of years in Copenhagen, the differences are stark . Everywhere has had issues due to Covid and the Ukraine situation- we have however compounded that with Brexit. No one else has that issue. We have basically handed over our best multi national business both commercial and NGO type organisations to our competitors in the EU on a plate because the UK now isn't a number one port of call for investment unless it's a strong enough pure UK market or it's dodgy business trying to get round EU rules. We are not like the USA, the USA is it's own 'EU' , it has a big enough market for manufacturing business just to service the US. There was never going to be massive investment into run down areas etc because of Brexit , because whilst you can tart a town up a bit or improve its infrastructure , it's not that simple to create well skilled and well paid jobs without outside involvement. We have also created massive problems in the housing market by a lack of controls and this makes moving around difficult too for many

In this country any support for the war was on the back of Blair's lies about the imaginary WMD

Regardless of the other rights and wrongs of that war I honestly never understood this

I don't doubt for an instant that the threat was exaggerated, but it's known that Iraq used chemical gases at al Faw and others, so unless they're not considered WMD I'm not sure how they could be said to be imaginary?

It wasn’t. Howard said it was justified on the grounds of regime change and he’d have done the same as Blair.

Thank you, Blossom; that's interesting and something I'd not seen before

Blossomtoes · 29/03/2023 21:05

Yes. Little known fact, isn’t it? I can see that link coming in handy for a long time.

Why don't people ficus on the main issue OP raised rather than calling the Tories scum and interrogate her as to how she voted?

Surely the issue is that it's legal for MPs to be paid to be "consultants" i.e. lobbyists? And we should demand that this is stopped.

^ This.

Luckily there is a party leader who seems to agree, so perhaps we should vote for their party next time around?

Notonthestairs · 30/03/2023 10:03

"But I still want the House of Commons to agree new rules which are stricter than the rules that we've got - the sooner we can do that, the better."
So he agrees there should be stricter rules with exceptions for those that need to top up professional qualifications, writing political books and media work.

You are very naive if you think only tory MPs have second jobs, claim huge expenses, have second homes etc. They all do, yes even labour!!
Perhaps it is time for a new broom to sweep clean but who do you think is capable of running the country? Have a look back at the last Labour government.

The cash for honours, cronyism, illegal war, flogging off our gold reserves, raided our pension pots.
It wasn't quite the utopia people seem to think it was 😉

This entirely 🙌🏻

There literally is nobody to vote for. The whole system needs a complete overhaul….

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2023 19:30

Conservative MPs have received £15 million in seconds jobs.
Labour MPs have received £2 million.

DuncinToffee · 31/03/2023 19:42

While 54% of MPs are Conservatives, they account for 89% of external income over the last three years

But yeah, they are all the same Confused

In the name of all that is holy... that is just awful

Pigs at a trough

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2023 20:19

My mistake Labour MPs received 1.2 million.

And that 15.2 million to Tory MPs only includes £1 for Johnson - so you can add £4 million to that total.

All since 2019.

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2023 20:20

£1 million not £1!

jgw1 · 31/03/2023 20:44

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2023 19:30

Conservative MPs have received £15 million in seconds jobs.
Labour MPs have received £2 million.

Well this just demonstrates how much more talented Tory MPs are. I for one will continue to doff my cap to them.

DuncinToffee · 31/03/2023 21:02

Kwarteng charges £1,000+ to be interviewed on TV.
And TalkTV and GBNews have paid him

"People should be compensated for their time when they have left office....When you’re a backbencher, you don’t even have a driver..."

Blossomtoes · 31/03/2023 21:07

Oh dear. His diamond shoes really pinch, don’t they? Poor lamb doesn’t even have a driver, it really is shit.

The trouble may be that like the Prime Minister he does not know how to fill a car up with fuel.

Vynalbob · 04/04/2023 10:36

I reckon the voters should revolt on mass next GE and only vote for independents / tiny little less money grabbing parties.

Well, the answer is that if you don't like it stand yourself as an independent - problem solved.🙂

He's going to learn the hard way that people who have left office have very little value for TV and radio companies. Even TalkTV and GBNews are going to work out that there are enough backbenchers desperate to get their mugs on TV without charging to mean they can tell KK to take a running jump.

Stewball01 · 14/04/2023 15:06

I hope nobody would vote for corbyn 🤢🤮 . Politics the world over stunk.

beguilingeyes · 14/04/2023 18:37

I know...he wanted us all to have free broadband...the bastard.
A friend of mine lives in his constituency and loves him.
