Led by donkeys - enough is enough

Bloody hell, I’ve just watched the new “led by donkeys” video. People like Matt Hancock wanting to work for a fake consultancy firm for obscene amounts of cash.

I cannot tell You how angry MPs make me right now.

I have a relative that is an NHS dr on £14 an hour. She pays for her own travel and parking. All her study… she pays for. She is so busy she sometimes doesn’t eat.

then these idiots earn loads, and then claim back loads of expenses. Disgusting in my opinion. They then get second jobs that pay them £10k a day. Without even checking if company is real first.

In my opinion an mp should only take a second job if it’s in the nhs, army etc or a volunteer job for a registered charity. That’s it. No other reason.

I can’t even process this. I’ve had enough. What on earth can we do to change this? And yes I’ll not be voting Tory at the next election. They are a bunch of posh rich boys that want to just look after themselves. Politics should be more diverse. what on earth can we do?

OP, I couldn't agree with you more. I won't be voting Tory next time.

But do you honestly think Labour is fit for government?

Because I don't. As far as I can see, they are every bit as bad. I think the UK is in for a rough few years because the values of our politicians (of all parties) are atrocious. 😕

Besides I don’t think it is helpful to blame those that voted Tory last time. It does not help the future at all. Not does it do anything but anger people that could possibly vote for something else.

its like telling a kid that fell over and broke their arm that it’s their own fault.

not sure anyone could have predicted Covid, parties, I’m a celeb, snogging, Boris lying to this extent, rishi getting in, etc. it’s a soap opera!

If you didn't know what they were like last time you just weren't paying attention 😆

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 09:20

Just for the record. I’ll be voting labour in the next election.

I bet if we somehow stopped them getting a second job they would come up with a loophole. Eg working for a company in a “volunteer” basis with some back hand way of getting the money as “expenses” or some other corrupt way.

I blame every single person who voted for them. Who didn't know what their ethos is? Bloody Boris was their leader!

But at the time Corbyn was leader of the opposition. He was the reason a lot of Labour voters voted differently. He's what lost the election. The Tories didn't really win it. There's a very good reason they haven't called an early election this time and it's because they know those Labour voters will vote Labour again.

Puppers · 26/03/2023 09:20

I get very fed up of being told not to blame the people who voted the Tories in. Whilst the specific events of Covid etc may not have been predictable, what was entirely predictable to the rest of us was that the Tories would take any opportunity possible to screw the poorest in society (or everyone, really, who isn't one of the richest) and syphon as much public cash as possible into their private pockets. So no, I don't think it's good enough to compare it to a child "accidentally" breaking their arm. We have responsibilities as voters and people need to take them seriously and realise that their vote has real world consequences, if not for them then for others.

I think the solution is quite obvious. I don't begrudge high wages for MPs because, done properly, it's an extremely demanding job that carries a huge amount of responsibility. The answer is that MPs should not be able to have any kind of financial interest in the industries and companies they are responsible for regulating or funding.

GoodChat · 26/03/2023 09:21

Worth noting that Labour have already announced some policies that would reform parliament - specifically the HoLs, which whilst not a solution to this particular problem, is part of the solution to the corruption that has been a feature of Tory governments for the past 13 years.

The HoL have also stopped the Tories doing a lot of stupid shit, though.

ThreeFeetTall · 26/03/2023 09:22

@GoodChat I agree

megletthesecond · 26/03/2023 09:23

They'll get back in, mark my words. Sunak will pull some goodies put of the bag and turkeys will vote for Xmas. then whinge they can't get a hospital apt, teachers are st breaking point, their car got damaged on a pot hole.
I have very low expectations of people.

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 09:24

I don’t know @megletthesecond i think labour will do it next time.

@Tiocfaigharla It’s not really relevant who I voted for last time. Since we last voted a lot of terrible behaviour has happened

It was pretty predictable. The tories are all about protecting the interests of the wealthy.... that is why the very wealthy vote for them. The rest of us should not be voting Tory as it's like turkey's voting for Christmas...

Dracuuule · 26/03/2023 09:28

Kay00 · 26/03/2023 08:49

@Thisisvenus I'm sure I read this morning that Kier Starmer will stop MPs having a second job if Labour are voted in.

What I can't get my head around is how the have time for a second job??!!

I'm clearly doing something wrong...

Or how they can even be competent at a second job when they're incompetent in their main one.

Yes, they clearly. are. I'm not idealising them, but they have sensible policies in terms of the economy, health, education and elsewhere, and we really desperately need a government with some principles. All the current government cares about is the interests of government members and their friends.

MintJulia · 26/03/2023 09:29

@Thisisvenus 'do you think politicians deserve £80k basic?'

Perhaps ask the families of Jo Cox or David Amess. Some MPs are clearly worth more.

The fact is that many well educated, highly qualified people earn a lot more than 80k. So should MPs be drawn only from lower paying careers, or from the exceedingly wealthy who can afford to earn less (and are then blamed for being wealthy).

Or do we expect intelligent, experienced competent people to limit their earnings - and their families' lifestyles - to be an MP?

It was, however, predictable that a Tory party would turn any situation that arose into a way of shoring up personal wealth.

I probably agree that it's not helpful to blame people for a past mistake, as long as people who are now moaning about the situation don't vote Tory at the next election.

User386421986 · 26/03/2023 09:30

None of them are fit for government so I just don't bother to vote, a lot of people don't bother to vote so I'm not alone

JustFrustrated · 26/03/2023 09:30

So who do you vote for, if your local MP is decent, trustworthy and reliable. Has done more for your local area in her time of holding the post than the previous MP of a rival party did in his 15 years (I think it was 15). ... But you don't like the party she's in?

How do you deal with national and local conflict when voting? I care that my area has been/is going through a massive regeneration thanks to her and her her efforts, I care that she works for us and does her damnedest to reliable and responsible...

I think they'll win on the basis of the childcare reforms, simply because we know currently it's not feasible so Labour would have to make changes to them.

I mean, how do you think they are as bad? In what way? Some examples would be helpful. In the led by donkeys video all of the labour MPs declined to even meet the fake consultancy firm.

Livelovebehappy · 26/03/2023 09:30

Your relative I guess is studying to be a doctor, and once training has finished, will be on substantially more than £14 per hour. Unfortunately, many people training for vocational jobs get nothing and have to get jobs on the side until training is finished. So your relative is pretty lucky….

Kay00 · 26/03/2023 09:31

@Dracuuule exactly.

It just feels like these MPs are out to milk all they can from their positions. Maybe because is very unlikely they will have a job after the next election? I expect this government to get worse as the general election looms closer...

NHS doctor on £14 an hour?
This is just not true.

Are you joking?

@MintJulia there are a few that a decent sure.

mine is awful. He’s beyond shit. He’s lazy. In our town we have one of the worst gp surgery in the country. It’s impossible to get an appointment. I never bother anymore and just pay private now. he’s done nothing!

he’s only ever pictured opening new shops etc. he’s bloody terrible.

Why do you think Labour aren't fit for government? They very clearly are to me. They have a few MPs I don't particularly agree with on a few things but minor ideological differences. You'll never get a party that totally aligns with your views on everything.

The fact you can go private shows exactly why you voted Tory last time, and I doubt you'll vote Labour next time for the exact same reason.

Thisisvenus · 26/03/2023 09:35

@Irritateandunreasonable it might be less. My relative has just had to pay for all her specialty exams, on top of parking, and student loan repayments. She never ever leaves on time ever. sometimes during busy times it’s a couple of hours extra a shift.
