Anybody else scared to post on Mumsnet

I feel like Mumsnet can be a bit toxic sometimes and I feel a bit uncomfortable posting anything.

People can be very judgmental in here.

OP posts:

I’m also wary of posting for advice, only to end up in the Daily Mail. So maybe it’s always best to change a few details. Which is a shame, but sadly necessary

BourbonBon · 06/03/2023 07:17

I’m thinking the current trend of these kinds of posts are a recruitment drive for another forum.

Anyway, no I’m not scared to post on here but I do have an incredibly thick skin. It’s just words on a screen.

piedbeauty · 06/03/2023 07:17

You have the men haters, the feminists and the strong 💪 women advocates trying to break any relationship

🙄🙄🙄
You mean you have women sincerely appalled to read so many stories of frankly useless and, worse, abusive men on here that, yes, we do suggest that women leave them. What's wrong with that?

One of the things I've seen on here over the years is that far too many women are in abusive, unloving relationships and are desperately unhappy or ground down. Sometimes in that situation you can't see the wood for the trees, so an outside opinion is helpful.

Some of the relationships sound so awful that LTB is the only answer.

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 06/03/2023 07:21

Yes. I barely post anymore. I posted on chat and treated as though I'd posted on aibu and it was too much for me.

Florissant · 06/03/2023 07:22

And the competitive victimhood...

I'm sure incels are trolling Mumsnet, it used to be the obvious football fans, but I think they have taken another tack of posting as women now.

I think there's a couple on here.

Threelefthands · 06/03/2023 07:31

Unless you are a card-carrying member of the Labour Party people will throw vitriol at you, on MN, from all directions. 🙄

NetballMumGrrr · 06/03/2023 07:32

What I’ve noticed in particularly tough Relationship threads is often there ends up being one poster who is dogmatic/very pushy about their situation. Often these people end up DMing me asking even more pushy questions.

The good news is often other posters might call out this person (it’s never one person it’s just like someone who gets a bee in their bonnet about your issue) so you have to be mindful to read everyone’s opinion.

Sausagenbacon · 06/03/2023 07:34

Nope. Nobody is entitled to go through life without a moment’s ‘discomfort’, and I enjoy it as somewhere women can go all Afterlife and just say what the fuck they think without having to be all polite and #bekind like we are often told we should be. I find it refreshing!
This.

I think there's a couple on here.

They used to use flowery feminine names all the time but I think they're starting to give that up.

Yes, spotted a few

Maireas · 06/03/2023 07:42

There was a flurry of threads on the theme of Camilla being Queen - some very intense and angry posts indicating that the Cult of St Diana the Martyr is alive and well.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 05/03/2023 21:53

Wombats poop cubes so they don't roll away.

I thought so

They poop cubes?! Off to google.

SweetSenorita · 06/03/2023 07:58

Hmm 🤔 Let me think. Afraid that some or all of the MN population might call me vain or inappropriate. Or grim because I don't change the bedding hourly. Shout that I don't know what real love is. Lecture me on why men don't like me.

Only happens on AIBU which, let's face it, isn't real most of the time. I come here for the comedy gold 🙂

I've long since lost the fucks I used to give 🤷

You gotta be joking. What the fuck are they doing for women? 🤷

IAmTheWalrus85 · 05/03/2023 22:25

Actually I think MN has been subject to invasions from Incel forums in the last couple of years. Men who enjoy posing as women online to give other women a good kicking. And MNHQ isn’t clued up enough about internet subcultures to take any action on it, and besides, they need the traffic.

Since 2017 I think. They're increasing in numbers as well. Sad men with too much time on their hands.

Keir Starmer is not sure what a woman is. He would never get my vote

There is a really sad thread going at the moment and this poor Mum has traveled across the world to be with her daughter on ITU …some of the comments have been absolutely hideous…I really understand what you are say…some absolute horrors out there ..sad people!

Many people (not just on MN but other fora) think that is a troll - which is why the thread has developed as it has. (Not excusing any pile-ons, just explaining)

Always read between the lines.

Maireas · 06/03/2023 08:19

Shoes on/shoes off seems to generate more excitement than you'd think.
If you want some entertainment, start a toilet brush thread 😉

whistlingkettles · 06/03/2023 08:19

I think if a person is mercilessly unkind to strangers on the internet, it's because they're harbouring some very deep seated anger.

Yes! And while I do always try to understand another person may not be having a good day, week, life ... those kind of nasty comments will poison my day if I'm already feeling kind of low.

whistlingkettles · 06/03/2023 08:26

ouchmyteeth · 05/03/2023 21:44

Different point of views are fine but some posters are definitely unnecessary rude and horrible in a very out-of-proportion way to the original post.

Under an old account I once posted a recipe and asked if I was wrong to include a particular ingredient. I thought it was lighthearted but within minutes I had people telling me I was an idiot, stuck up, stupid and that the thought of my food made them want to vomit.

That's not an 'opinion', that's just mean people venting all their rubbish upon the heads of anonymous internet users. 😞

Balloonsandroses · 06/03/2023 08:27

I’ve been scared to post but not because of the responses I’ve received, because of the way threads can be picked up and published elsewhere

Maireas · 06/03/2023 08:28

Also, I think nowadays more people live in a bubble. It's useful to have discussions where people have differing opinions.
There's one at the moment with women wfh and childcare. Any disagreement and posters are "bitter" or "jealous". Why? They just have different opinions and it saddens me that people can't accept that, or even consider another point of view.
