I feel like Mumsnet can be a bit toxic sometimes and I feel a bit uncomfortable posting anything.

People can be very judgmental in here.

There’s a lot of QWERTY snipers about. When you read their other input you usually find realise they’re dismissive/confrontational 90% of the time and they probably wouldn’t be people you’d necessarily want a cup of tea and a chat with in real life (assuming they don’t have multiple personalities, maybe they do).

Once or twice it’s been surprising, someone picks a fight & you find you actually fundamentally agree on a lot of things and have a similar moral code/world view but they apparently hate your guts and their manner of address is wild😝

I have yet to meet people willing to be as rude in real life as on SM, and I’ve met a lot of ‘outspoken characters’😂There are also people on here who are reliably decent and insightful/have a funny way with words, and it’s nice to know they’re out there somewhere. Would be great if you could specifically ask them for their thoughts, like an agony aunt, or follow people on here and automatically see their posts like on Twitter but I could see how that could be abused too.

Don’t internalise criticism from someone from whom you wouldn’t accept advice, basically, is my way round it. And reassure yourself they’d NEVER say that shit to your face.

Nope. Nobody is entitled to go through life without a moment’s ‘discomfort’, and I enjoy it as somewhere women can go all Afterlife and just say what the fuck they think without having to be all polite and #bekind like we are often told we should be. I find it refreshing!

Actually I think MN has been subject to invasions from Incel forums in the last couple of years. Men who enjoy posing as women online to give other women a good kicking. And MNHQ isn’t clued up enough about internet subcultures to take any action on it, and besides, they need the traffic.

I have 2 children and am broody for a third. I’m wondering how a third child would impact my children.

The kids would be 5 and 3 when the potential third would come along. We are in a fortunate position in that I do not need to work, we live in a 4 bedroom house and a third would not impact what we can provide for our children financially. We could also afford to pay for assistance with housework. I don’t mind a bit of mess and chaos, so that wouldn’t bother me. What I am worried about is how it will impact my ability to spend time with each child and care for their needs.

We live too far from family to have any help with childcare and I don’t personally like the idea of having a nanny. The kids watch almost no TV and we take them out a lot to do interesting activities. I’m worried that a third would make it difficult to leave the house and that they would end up watching lots of TV because I would be overwhelmed.

If anyone has experience of three children with similar age gaps, I would be really interested to hear how it impacted you and your older children, both the positives and the negatives.

Thanks!

Sorry! I was trying to start a new thread and clearly have no idea what I’m doing. I didn’t mean to comment on yours!

SwordToFlamethrower · 05/03/2023 22:33

I never post on mums net. There are so many nasty, cruel and vicious replies that I'd be too scared to.

The venom and judgment on here is abhorrent.

Going back to wombats for a minute...... I've just come across a wiki page with the title "Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat"

I bet Ozzie Man has some good wombat action. They are very cute.

I change my username regularly after I had a stalker who would follow me from thread to thread arguing against whatever I said.

I think she got banned because there was a homophobic thread she was posing on. The thread was deleted and I’ve never seen her since.

EpicDay · 05/03/2023 22:37

I once posted on a thread about marriages surviving an affair, said I was very proud of my marriage having done so, and was told “this is quite possibly the most tragic thing I’ve ever read on Mumsnet”. Even knowing how utterly batshit some posters are, this comment still baffles me. Sad, maybe, wrong, deluded, yes possibly, but the most tragic thing ever? Difficult to see!!

FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks · 05/03/2023 22:37

Okay, so don’t post?

If you can’t cope with posts from randomers on the internet either work on your emotional resilience or get off the internet.

I’m pretty sure wombats don’t menstruate though.

Wombats don't, but apparently elephant shrews and spiny mice do.

Pubesofsoberness · 05/03/2023 22:43

There are some posters who seem to enjoy posting dickhead replies on every thread they comment on. A couple of them have posters on here in typical for them dickhead mode

It doesn't take much to make some people happy!!

Twisting · 05/03/2023 22:46

Surely you just ignore the dickheads, like in real life.

I imagine many of the posters on here are actual very socially anxious and, apart from posting frequently on local fb groups, don't really interact with people all that much.

Years ago under another name I posted about something and a very well known poster harassed me for days. DMing me etc. Was horrible.

monsterradeliciosa · 05/03/2023 22:50

The irony of some of the responses

tobee · 05/03/2023 22:51

This is about the 3rd thread like this I've seen in the last couple of days.

I usually think that posters are trolls, bots or other agitators who aren't genuine but I'm likely wrong. They're probably, in reality people with no empathetic abilities who excuse themselves by saying they're just telling op like it is. On relationship boards, say, they don't seem to see the irony that slagging off women for being with appalling & abusive men is best pointed out by being appalling & abusive to these women. It might be true that they should be leaving their husband but they're just a) haranguing and b) coming across as just posting to big themselves up. Nothing more. Quite frankly those types can fuck off. They just seem bitter

ilovesooty · 05/03/2023 22:52

Herthatry · 05/03/2023 21:51

@MrsTerryPratchett are you a bully? Your name
Is becoming very familiar 🧐

So you're too afraid to post but you're quite unafraid to accuse another poster of bullying on the basis of a reply which was obviously a joke... OK then. 🙄

tobee · 05/03/2023 22:53

You do see the same posters jumping all over the vulnerable. None of us are thinking that they are awesome. We just think bully.

Octomingo · 05/03/2023 22:54

Herthatry · 05/03/2023 22:08

You have the men haters, the feminists and the strong 💪 women advocates trying to break any relationship

What's wrong with feminists? I rarely jump to the ltb call, but fuck me, sometimes you read the shit women put up with and 'ltb' is the first thing you think.
