Disclaimer - not a real AIBU I couldn’t find another topic where you can vote

I’ve recently turned 30 and been TTC for a while (not happened yet :D) and it seems like every single person I know from school or in my age range had children ages ago (friends with children 10+ for example). All of my close friends have children - albeit younger - but I’m starting to think that I’m in the minority and I’ll be an older mum at the school gates, if and when it happens.

So.. I wanted to get a gauge outside of the small world that is my friends and Facebook, how many of you had your first child before 30??

YABU - I had my first child at 30+
YANBU - I had my first child younger than 30

Ps no judgment or one ups - neither is better or worse, I’m just curious to see the %
Pps I’m a semi regular poster - name changed as I picked a rubbish one before and was sick of it 😂

35 & 39 for me.

SephrinaX · 02/03/2023 21:37

I was 32 when I had my first. Out of my entire antenatal group of 10, 9 of them were older or same age as me.

VestaTilley · 02/03/2023 21:43

I was 33. Most of my friends were that age or older.

Namechangetobeanon · 02/03/2023 21:47

I was 17 and 19, now 12 years later I’m having my 3rd!

Was one of the youngest at the school gates and initially got judged cos I ‘wasn’t working’. I had infant just booked time off for my child’s first week of school& my shifts also allowed me to either always drop off or pick up.

Once they seen me in my blatant work uniform, suddenly they were all smiles and asking about my role 🙃

Sunflowers1991 · 02/03/2023 21:49

Few weeks before my 27th & again at 29.

All friends with children or TTC are/were late 20s to mid 30s.

Good luck ✨

I'm 30 and expecting my first in July. Most of my friends, school friends are still childless.

emmetgirl · 02/03/2023 21:53

29

Briallen · 02/03/2023 21:58

I was 26 and 29. Most school mums are older than me I would say. My friends have mostly had babies aged between 26-36

massifcentral · 02/03/2023 22:00

36 and 38

TrudyProud · 02/03/2023 22:00

35 with DD (my first). I'm in London and a "professional" so in my demographic having your first in your 30s is the norm .

Do what's right for you

Tanktop · 02/03/2023 22:05

34 and 39. Plenty time op.

MuMmaOf3littles · 02/03/2023 22:05

25 with #1 in 2017, #2 in 2019, #3 in 2021 and I'm expecting #4 due early summer this year.

IAmTheWalrus85 · 02/03/2023 22:08

I was 33.

Very unusual in my area/social circle to be under 30.

One of my friends was 29 when she had her first (she’s now 32) and she feels judged as a young mum.

pitterypattery00 · 02/03/2023 22:08

I was 40. Not unusual in my wider friendship group. I only have one friend who had a child in her 20s. As PPs have said, age at first birth is hugely socially patterned.

Coffeeandcrocs · 02/03/2023 22:12

20, 25 and 27 for me. 5 year gap between DC1 and 2 due to secondary infertility and having IVF. DC3 was the surprise bonus ball who we were told would never happen!

Tangled123 · 02/03/2023 22:24

I had my daughter at 32. I wasn’t ready before then but I sometimes wish I was. I never wanted an only child but I also don’t want to get pregnant after 35. I’m running out of time though as my 35th birthday is in September and we can’t afford another kid right now.

Oopsadaisysgranny · 02/03/2023 22:29

7???

It's not that unusual. I'm on number 7...except it's not just number 7...it's number 8 as well! An extra decided to come along for the ride 😂

JaneorEleven · 02/03/2023 23:03

First baby at 37. Second at 44. Second is now 11yrs and I’ve been the oldest mum at pick up, I’d guess, but not by much. Quite a few mums I know were early 40s. But with my first, I’d say I was more of a typical age.

thaisweetchill · 02/03/2023 23:06

25, took 11 months to conceive. My BF has just had a baby aged 28 and my other BF is childless but hoping to conceive in 3 years.

Good luck OP

Sorry, other BF is 29

BiscoffAnythingIsTheWayForward · 02/03/2023 23:07

First at 28, second at 31 and third at 34.

Try not to worry or compare to others, I honestly never think about how old the other parents are at the school drop off. 30 is normal to start having babies IMO. Good luck with conceiving 😊

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 02/03/2023 23:12

I had my DD at 33. The first of my friends to have children were aged 28/29 with the majority early to mid 30's. A few friends who have three children had their last child late 30's/early 40's.

TicklishSmile · 02/03/2023 23:14

I had mine at 35 and 38. I’m in London “professional” circles and that was at the older end, but not the oldest by a long way, I know plenty in their early 40s having children.
