Disclaimer - not a real AIBU I couldn’t find another topic where you can vote

I’ve recently turned 30 and been TTC for a while (not happened yet :D) and it seems like every single person I know from school or in my age range had children ages ago (friends with children 10+ for example). All of my close friends have children - albeit younger - but I’m starting to think that I’m in the minority and I’ll be an older mum at the school gates, if and when it happens.

So.. I wanted to get a gauge outside of the small world that is my friends and Facebook, how many of you had your first child before 30??

YABU - I had my first child at 30+
YANBU - I had my first child younger than 30

Ps no judgment or one ups - neither is better or worse, I’m just curious to see the %
Pps I’m a semi regular poster - name changed as I picked a rubbish one before and was sick of it 😂

33 when DD was born. Would have been 35 with number 2 but miscarried at 10 weeks and for various reasons I'm definitely one and done now.

DD has just turned 8 and in her class the majority of the mums are my age, give or take a year or two either way. So 30+ seems pretty much the norm where I am.

Best of luck with your ttc journey x

I remember being at a play group with my DD when I was aged 18. I made friends with a lady who was 33 with her first child. At the time I thought she was ridiculously old to be having a baby!

I had my second DD aged 32. I was still one of the youngest mums in the local play groups.

Ah you know I was just having a down moment because I turn 28 today and thinking I'm old but it's just the way society has made us think about ourselves.

I had my first at 21 and my second at 27

WittyWithWine · 02/03/2023 00:43

15 and 25
Grandma at 36 and 50

fuckitfuckitall · 02/03/2023 00:57

Pregnant at 40 but gave birth at 41

HelloBunny · 02/03/2023 01:04

Aged 44. Surprise baby!

Emptycrackedcup · 02/03/2023 01:04
  1. I think this was too old in hindsight. I think 35 is probably a good age, so you've had time to have a "life", establish a career, and have finances sorted
Readyforspringtime · 02/03/2023 01:06

Gov stats say the average is 30. It's been not too far off that most years since the 1930s.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 02/03/2023 01:08

21 and 23. I'm almost 33 and it was the best decision for us.

MGK · 02/03/2023 01:10

I was 26 & 27 when I had mine

LoveYouHoneybear · 02/03/2023 01:11

33 and 34!

DramaAlpaca · 02/03/2023 01:12

I was 29. I wanted to have my first before I was 30. I'd got my degree, my career was in a good place, I'd been married a couple of years, it was the right time for me. It took me 11 months to conceive though.

xprincessxjanetx · 02/03/2023 01:14

First born at 18. I am almost 31 and pregnant with twins.

FWIW I wouldn't think anything strange about anyone under 45 being pregnant, and I only would after that as it is more unusual.

Tropicaliyes · 02/03/2023 01:19

I turned 30 last year then fell pregnant 2 months later. Will give birth the month before my 31st birthday but will almost be a month before my 31st (shy a few days) unless he comes early. This is my first.

PumpkinTruffles · 02/03/2023 01:19

I would have loved them younger, but it doesn't always work out that way. Had my first at 37 and am currently TTC at 40. I know it's not too old really and lots of women do it, but I reeeeally didn't want to be having a baby in my 40s.

hbbyno2 · 02/03/2023 01:21

28 and 32

Putthefireon · 02/03/2023 01:35

We were 26. Would have been 24, had I not had a stillborn.
We were done by 27 🤣 (2 kids)

mondaytosunday · 02/03/2023 01:38

41 and 43. Took about four months trying each time.

MintJulia · 02/03/2023 01:41

45+2 It was something of a surprise to discover ds was on the way. 😀

RunTowardsTheLight · 02/03/2023 01:44

I was 31 and younger than most of my friends.

thaegumathteth · 02/03/2023 02:03

25 and 29 but I was one of the younger ones at the school tbh (mine are teens now)

Goneblank38 · 02/03/2023 02:13

36 and 38 but our first was born after around three years of fertility treatment, so started around 33. Good luck!

DeeCeeCherry · 02/03/2023 02:15

31

TheTeenageYears · 02/03/2023 02:27

27 & 29 but it was 20 years ago. Second youngest in a friendship group of 7 made early after DC1 was born. 13 year age difference between oldest & youngest Mum in the group (all first born DC).

bakewellbride · 02/03/2023 02:32

28 then had another at 32.
