Disclaimer - not a real AIBU I couldn’t find another topic where you can vote

I’ve recently turned 30 and been TTC for a while (not happened yet :D) and it seems like every single person I know from school or in my age range had children ages ago (friends with children 10+ for example). All of my close friends have children - albeit younger - but I’m starting to think that I’m in the minority and I’ll be an older mum at the school gates, if and when it happens.

So.. I wanted to get a gauge outside of the small world that is my friends and Facebook, how many of you had your first child before 30??

YABU - I had my first child at 30+
YANBU - I had my first child younger than 30

Ps no judgment or one ups - neither is better or worse, I’m just curious to see the %
Pps I’m a semi regular poster - name changed as I picked a rubbish one before and was sick of it 😂

First baby at 33, second at 37. I’m in central London, and of the six women in my NCT group having first babies I was the second youngest. Youngest was 32, eldest was 44.

First at 17, 7th and last at 30.

7???

Jimboscott0115 · 02/03/2023 18:29

21 for my first and 39 now, I could not imagine doing the sleepless nights etc in my late 30s, let alone having a teenager in my 50s but that's the beauty, we're all different.

7???

That’s about one every 2 years or so..

OhmygodDont · 02/03/2023 19:46

I mean this is Mumsnet so so most people here seem to have their children when older. Go on a different forum and most are done by 35 ish. The demographic here is very different to other places. You are you. Just look how Mumsnet said no tories and Brexit yet both where actually apparently much more wanted.

Deadringer · 02/03/2023 19:49

I have been the youngest at the school gates, and the oldest. It really doesn't matter.

I’m 30 now, had my first at 17 and second at 26. Collecting daughter from secondary school I’m one of the youngest mums, however, when I collect youngest from nursery I’m also still one of the youngest?! It doesn’t make sense lol

Had mine at 19 , always the youngest at the school gates , and the youngest at uni drop off ,but was hard as hell

floradora · 02/03/2023 19:59

42 😬(after about 10 years of trying, crying, interventions and treatment)

Maybebabyno2 · 02/03/2023 20:01

I had my first at 30 but this was simular to most of my friends so didn't feel old. I'm onto the 2nd now and still feel too young 🤣

Hyppogriff · 02/03/2023 20:02

32 34

secretmumoffour · 02/03/2023 20:03

Had my first at 25, then 27, then 34 and 35.... four children later and I'm still one of the few in my own age bracket that I'm friends with that has children. Plenty of women are leaving it much later these days. Must admit it was easier in my twenties than thirties.... or maybe it's just the number I have to keep up with now 😂

AmIThatMam · 02/03/2023 20:05

29,32,40. You won’t be the youngest or the oldest , but tbh once you’re past 30 no one care how old you are anymore 😂😂👍🏻

Isthisreasonable · 02/03/2023 20:08

Conceived naturally at 44

RagzRebooted · 02/03/2023 20:08

20 when I had my first and I was 3rd in my friendship group, others were 17 and 18.
However, we all dropped out of college several times, spent years on benefits and none of us own a house. So...

Really I found it easier with my first at 17, probably because I had no mortgage or real world responsibilities back then.

sandalsinthebin · 02/03/2023 20:10

20, 25, 30, 35. In hindsight too spread out but it was just how my life unfolded. I felt ancient at 35 although I really wasn't, I was about the same age as the other mums. At 20 I was often assumed to be DS nanny and I'm occasionally mistaken for his older sister now (which I do quite like)

GAW19 · 02/03/2023 20:11

22 & 23.
Honestly, I feel like one of the youngest mums when I take DD1 (nearly 4) to school. Most are late 30's 😊

BGL23 · 02/03/2023 20:12

I'm 35 and currently pregnant with my first - in my friendship group I know literally 1 person who had a kid before 30. I don't know where you live but having children in your 20s is way less common in cities/London I think.

Daechwita · 02/03/2023 20:13

I was 39 when I had my first and plenty of my friends had their firsts in their early 40s.

I'm definitely one of the oldest mums at the school gates, though. Some are half my age...

Carsarelife · 02/03/2023 20:13

I was 27 and 30. I'm definitely one of the youngest mums at the school gates, but I'm not THE youngest. On holiday once I was mistaken for their older sister 😂😂😂

Firsttimemum120 · 02/03/2023 21:34

I was 26, I’m nearly 28 and I’m saying I want a second when I’m 32😂
