Sharing a tin of beans is small fry compared to enforced unisex arrangements.

Really? Millions of children living in poverty is small fry?

Floofyduffypuddy · 03/02/2023 07:58

I cant believe some posters are still having to explain this to others drawn to this topic..

dodgedabullet · 03/02/2023 08:06

I'm a woman and I don't understand why anyone privileged enough to be male would want to unidentify themselves as female.

Because they get off on it.

There's nothing inherently left wing about gender ideology. It's utterly individualistic. All those different identities and labels are a capitalist dream, and that's before you factor in elective surgery and hormones. This new religion is making some people very rich. The belief in gender stereotypes is pretty right wing too, as is ensuring that some people (gay, autistic) can't breed, through sterilisation.

I am a very left wing socialist but I don't especially prefer socialist misogynists to conservative ones. At least the latter are fairly honest about it. Socialist misogynists, on the other hand, like to go on about how good they are. Yet they give themselves away by dangling our rights to abortion in front of us " You have to side with us because otherwise they'll take that away" showing they completely understand patriarchal power structures and are happy to benefit from them.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

happinessischocolate · 03/02/2023 08:32

But it's a major new topic - given the recent issues of locking male rapists in women's prisons - for many women this IS a pressing topic!

So during the current conservative government male rapist are being put in women's prisons but you're all backing Rishi because he says on tv that women are adult females.

It's just a sound bite.

He's in charge right now so he can make the changes needed.

But no let's all have a go at Starmer who's not in charge and not responsible for any current policies.

(And I can't stand Starmer)

Arguelikeagrownup · 03/02/2023 08:37

Well that's okay then. Who cares that women and children freeze and starve?

lifeturnsonadime · 03/02/2023 08:40

Such lazy arguments on here along the lines of you all must be made to vote the evil Tories without considering what is making left leaning women abandon the Labour Party, the Lib Dems and the Greens.

Labour has a women problem. A big one. As a woman I cannot, in good conscious vote for a party where women have been called -

  • Lisa Nandy believes child rapists should be in women's prisons -
  • Sir Keir Starmer says it is wrong to say only women have a cervix -

It is all well and good to say that well the Tories are worse but why on earth, as a woman, is it acceptable for a party that wishes to run the country to treat women with such disdain? Real disdain?

If you are going to vote Labour at least ask questions on why they hate women so much to the point that we no longer exist in our own right and why they will continue to support policies that take away our protections, especially those of vulnerable women, without our consent.

And why they will promote a pathway which encourages children to go down a harmful surgical route to change their bodies.

Women deserve better than ANY party is giving at the moment. Just because you won't vote Tory you shouldn't have to put up with this shit.

Ask yourself why so many left leaning women are politically homeless?

The Labour Party NEED TO STEP UP TO PROTECT WOMEN AND CHILDREN. If they lose the next general election on this single issue it is BECAUSE THEY FAILED TO PROTECT WOMEN AND CHILDREN not because women are nasty tories.

ReneBumsWombats · 03/02/2023 08:44

I won't vote Tory. But until Labour can sort this mess out, I won't vote them either.

L1ttledrummergirl · 03/02/2023 08:46

Whilst I am concerned about the erosion of the definition and all it entails- a man in dds sport could kill her- and thoroughly pissed off at Starmers insistence on drinking the kool aid, the damage being done to women, children and the country by the Conservatives right now needs to be stopped.

Sunak may say he knows what a woman is, he also said he didn't gather with others during lockdown but has a fpn that says differently. I don't believe him and I don't trust him. The damage that has been done, and is continuing to be done to womens identity has and is happening under the conservatives.

We need to stop the immediate damage now, the battle for women is not going anywhere and pressure can be brought on Starmer whether in government or opposition, the battle is already being fought and Sumak and the conservatives have shown they are no friend of women.

Bellalalala · 03/02/2023 08:54

I don’t think people really under the issue.

I have 2 kids. One a 19 year old female Uni student studying to go into a male dominated industry that she loves. That’s doing amazing work to bring in more women. She is also a sports woman. She is also a lesbian. The debate about what a woman is, has (and is having) a huge detrimental impact on her life. It has potential to cause I’m even further detrimental impacts.

My son is 11 and disabled. And it’s immensely difficult accessing any support that he would benefit from. His mental health is severely impacted.

In the next election, because labour don’t know what a woman is, I will be voting to throw one of my kids under the bus. That’s the situation as it is.

I have also been a poor single parent. I don’t believe removing women’s rights will, improve anything for women. It won’t mean less live in poverty. It’s going to make things worse, especially for vulnerable women. Especially for women that need to access rape centres and refuges. Voting for labour when they will make life worse for women, isn’t a simple thing to do.

I don’t dint think anyone thinks that Rishi is going to be the saviour of women. But it’s a huge issue for the future of women and their sex based rights.

WandaWonder · 03/02/2023 09:04

No idea really, I always thought I was one till it became the next new fangled label I don't feel I need

Stasiland · 03/02/2023 09:33

If it's anything like the levelling up/northern powerhouse non event has been, I doubt that this is anything but a cheap sound bite designed to attract GC female voters.
How on earth supposed life long labour supporters could vote the tories in for another 5 years on the basis of a few utterings made by a discredited PM is unbelievable.

If GC women who were previously Labour voters decline to vote labour in the next GE it is not based on a few utterings of Sunak.

It is based on the fact that Labour has a woman problem which IT IS FAILING TO ADDRESS.

ShakespearesBlister · 03/02/2023 09:46

What is a woman? On Bottom with Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson, Eddie said we were like blokes, but with jugs on.

smileladiesplease · 03/02/2023 09:52

See gaslighting from some posters here!

'Oh poor women need more help than to bother about women's rights/there's more to talk about than the trans issue and women's safety snd concequence

No no no no no!!!!! It's fundamental plank of any party how they regard and treat women snd girls

Huge huge issue

Stasisland

You just don't get it do you?? Now is the time for Kier to choose. Does he support 52% of the population or a tiny unpleasant shouty minority.

Does he do the right thing? Or is he a coward?

I can assure you this may not matter to you but it's the most important issue to millions of women. Because if you have women's voices siilences and rights trampled on we have very very dark times ahead.

Mysogyny is on the rise via the Andrew tates of this world snd violence against women and girls a massive issue.

This IS the issue. Come on Kier

They don't, and the idea that people just use this to justify voting Tory when they wanted to anyway is nonsense too. If you already wanted to vote Tory and just used this as an excuse, then clearly it can't be a single issue for you and it wasn't this matter which persuaded you.

Some people will vote based on this single issue, but honestly I think that's a very low number. With all the crises on at the moment, people have a lot to think about.

A tweet from a Labour MP this morning -

Nadia Whittome MP
@NadiaWhittomeMP
🏳️‍⚧️ Finland has passed a law enabling trans people to change their legal gender by self-declaration.

It joins Ireland, Argentina, Denmark, Portugal + many more countries that have demedicalised the process, with no detrimental impact on women’s rights.

Time for the UK to follow.

Just in case you don't really think Labour intends to remove women's rights.

It absolutely does. With SELF ID women have no word to describe ourselves. Any man can be a woman if he says so.

I'd say that gender stereotypes are as beloved on the left as the right. Otherwise I agree with all this. The men of the left have never been inherently better for women than those of the right. They are more likely to virtue signal about it.

tiggergoesbounce · 03/02/2023 10:17

Yes Rishi great news snippet for all to jump on .🙄
So you know what a woman is...but just prove you dont give a shit about our rights.

You and your government are allowing men in womens jails.
You are allowing men to invade our space.
You are allowing our kids to be taught men can be women.
You are allowing men to change birth certficates to say they are women.
You are systematically under funding all womens services

Sorru Rishi your words are useless. You and your governed are proving that you may know what a women is, but our rights are irrelevant to you. Thats a disgrace.

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 03/02/2023 10:18

Yes C8H10N4O2 I think I'm slowly coming to that opinion.

It feels as if women are stuck between being used by right wing misogynists for family (sex, childcare) labour and by left wing misogynists for public (sex work, public childcare, validation) labour.

At this point I can't imagine a male centric political party ever being successful at representing us. Although in my personal life I do know good men.

Yes, I agree. If the Tories win the next election, it's not going to be because of 'soundbites' like this, it's going to be because females who had previously voted Labour just won't vote. Who, with any common sense, is going to vote for such a misogynistic party?!

It's going to be Labour's own making.

And to those being so patronising as to say women who need to use food banks don't care about this issue, do you not understand that it infiltrates the whole of society?

Aside from the obvious issues of men in female spaces, if men can call themselves women, it will affect the gender pay gap (raises the average women's pay.. great! We no longer have a pay gap, nothing left to do!). It will also affect equality and diversity recruitment policies in universities, employment sectors.... Great, this course/job that is traditionally underrepresented by women is no longer! Our job here is done, we no longer have to put in measures to recruit women!

Can you see how this will then make the gaps larger and larger and push women further down and more disadvantaged in society?

OneTC · 03/02/2023 10:22

Damn you Starmer!

So if women don't like these things that are happening now as a result of a lobby group misrepresenting the law, they should vote Labour who will make sure that laws are passed to cement in law that any man can be a woman because he says so?

Not following your logic at all.
