The problem is Labour would only be saying it to get votes.
I don't think they actually understand what the issue is.

ReneBumsWombats · 02/02/2023 23:06

The problem is Labour would only be saying it to get votes.

And that is something they don't appear to want at all.

smileladiesplease · 02/02/2023 22:59

Oh so poor women using good banks are too stupid to care about women's issues????

Really seriously you utter condisending plank

yep

Condescending plank is about right

Floofyduffypuddy · 02/02/2023 23:07

Omg.valdmirs Pootin I can't believe you implied that being poor and having nothing means you don't value your rights!

Often they are all we have left when everything else is taken from.us!

Floofyduffypuddy · 02/02/2023 23:08

However I think it's a reflection of the parties understanding sadly.

DisappearingGirl · 02/02/2023 23:22

To be fair I don't think it's as easy for Kier as for Rishi. Rishi can say that because most of his voter base are broadly conservative (small c).

Whereas if Kier said that, yes he would gain some votes but he would also lose plenty. Many of my broadly left wing friends and colleagues have pronouns on emails etc. Would he win more votes than he loses? Would it lose Labour the election? I don't think we know.

VladmirsPoutine · 02/02/2023 22:20

People who are/were prepared to vote for the tories based on this alone actually wanted to vote tory regardless but struggled with looking at how just about everything in the country is on fire. This 'single issue' vote helps them to reconcile that.

100% agree with you Vlad, I've been saying it on here for ages. It's a nice soundbite for people who don't have the balls to say they vote Tory as it aligns with what suits their personal interests best and to hell with anyone less fortunate.
I agree the issue with men encroaching on women's spaces is important, but the effect it has on society is very small compared to the wider issues women face- feeding their kids, cost of childcare, lack of child support, pay gaps, teachers and nurses and carers who are mostly women working in shitty conditions, lack of SEN support (which affects mostly women as they are the ones generally dealing with the fallout), poor matenal care, especially for black women. I could go on. Some women on here need to pull their head out of their arses.

OneTC · 02/02/2023 23:40

Isn't the conservative leader of the commons Penny "trans women are women" Mordaunt?

MeganTheeScallion · 02/02/2023 23:43

You're fawning over a slogan. Never mind what he's SAYING; what is he DOING to protect and enrich women & girls? I really despair over how easily pleased some people are. It's so dangerous. We need ACTION.

MeganTheeScallion · 02/02/2023 23:48

This government is setting fire to EU legislation like maternity rights, and you're lapping up some vacuous, empty phrases. He is NOT your friend. He's saying what you want to hear in the hope you'll leave the government alone and take your focus away from actual policy and action. He's buying time. Don't fall for it.

MeinKraft · 03/02/2023 00:33

Maybe Rishi sees a future where women all identify as men and become impossible to oppress.

Stasiland · 03/02/2023 00:45

@VladmirsPoutine absolutely. There are posters on here who are very much I'm alright jack. Life's great in tory britain and being GC is their pet hobby because they've nowt else to worry about.

Once women lose their sex based rights we are basically Gilead. This is THE pressing topic for some of us. Don’t be so arrogant.

Quite. This is huge. I think we are close to the tide finally turning. Until a few days ago I seriously feared that female identity could be fundamentally eroded. The shit women have had to put up with in recent years is totally bizarre and yet incredibly dangerous.

The Adam Graham case and Sturgeon's carcrash interview represent a watershed, and Sunak has clearly determined which way the wind is blowing. It'll be interesting to see how Starmer responds.

Thelnebriati · 03/02/2023 01:05

@Stasiland You can't organise safeguarding or services based on 'gender'.
You may be confident that you'll never need a domestic violence shelter, or rape crisis support, or spend time on a psychiatric ward or prison; but other more vulnerable women are less lucky than you.

CallieQ · 03/02/2023 01:20

Considering all the rest of the crap going on in this country does it really matter how Rishi describes what a woman is 🙄

MeganTheeScallion · 03/02/2023 02:24

What the actual fuck lmao. Think you've got me mixed up with someone else, "love", but go ahead if it makes you feel successful.

I'm not aligned to any political party or individual, thanks. I don't believe in picking sides between the red team and the blue team, and I'm not responsible for what any party or individual does.

Sunak is in charge so it's on him to DO THINGS now and not just spout catchphrases. If said catchphrases are good enough for you then I'm happy for you and your world, but it means jack shit offline for millions of women and girls suffering or at risk right now.

Aussiegirl123456 · 03/02/2023 03:08

No Y chromosome

KimberleyClark · 03/02/2023 04:07

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 02/02/2023 21:54

FUCKING YES RISHI!!

This is my red line. I am a single issue voter and THIS is that issue.

All of my previous voting has been lib dem, labour, or (last GE) a spoiled ballot. But if there is only one political party that will state, clearly, that a woman is an adult human female, then that is the party I will vote for.

Sorry not sorry, as the kids say.

Even though they are corrupt and rubbish at governing?

You don't care?

So you are okay with any fully intact male being able to declare that they are a woman, and be allowed to invade female single sex facilities, be they toilets, hospital wards, prisons, etc?

Really?

Jellycatspyjamas · 03/02/2023 06:44

Considering all the rest of the crap going on in this country does it really matter how Rishi describes what a woman is 🙄

It really does, if you can’t define it you can’t defend it and you can’t protect it. Redefining what a women is (as in you can be a woman if you say you are) effectively removes the Genuine Occupational Requirement clause if employment legislation, it means male bodied people in women’s private spaces, it means a woman can be raped in hospital and have that rape consistently denied by authorities on the basis that there no men in the hospital, it means sex offenders housed in female prisons, it means women who have trained for years in their chosen sport don’t get to compete at the highest level, it means male bodied people in domestic abuse refuges, it means women being told to “reframe their trauma”, it means schools colluding with primary aged children setting them on a path leading to life changing medical intervention without their parents knowledge much less their consent. And much, much more.

You may be ok with that, but I’m not so yes it really does matter that our prime minister can accurately define what a woman is.

CallieQ · 03/02/2023 01:20

Yes. I have a very elderly mother. If she needs a carer in the future, I want to be confident that we can specify that she needs a female carer and that's what we get. Almost all sexual offences are committed by males. Most men are safe, but some aren't, and you can't tell by looking at them, so the safest thing is to exclude all males to protect women's safety, dignity and privacy. See also: public toilets, changing rooms, hospital wards, smear tests, prisons.

PennyToffee · 03/02/2023 07:08

Pity he doesn't know what the NHS is.

IVFbeenverylucky · 02/02/2023 21:41

@SavoirFlair I agree with you basically, but the left is ideological, the right is about money and power. I'd rather have beliefs and values tbh.

This debate is all about power. For men.
