I first voted in 1974 general election. I voted Labour then and in every election since. After nearly 50 years, it’s the end of the line for me.

VladmirsPoutine · 02/02/2023 22:36

Single mothers make up a huge portion of the 'working poor'. In a foodbank I volunteered at many such women were trying to juggle (unaffordable) childcare and low-pay jobs. But the most important thing is that these women know Rishi knows they are women with the right biological 'toolkit'. That they're just about surviving is really not that big of a deal.

ghostyslovesheets · 02/02/2023 22:36

If all the other parties are so morally and ideologically superior and cared about women why don’t they say it? Instead of gaslighting and calling us ‘hoarders of rights’ ffs. Hoarders. Just let that sink in. Hoarding of hard won rights that protect our bodies, dignity and livelihoods

bloody well said

I'm a single mother working and claiming tax credits - I still value my rights - women have been marginalised by the left for years - I think we need to stop painting labour as some women loving party - they have always had issues - I know I have been there

Single parents women are women - their rights as SEX based - using food banks or being poor doesn't make that less important

BankOfDave · 02/02/2023 22:42

ghostyslovesheets · 02/02/2023 22:34

or 'shut up uppity women your concerns are not important'

Not sure what you mean but for clarification my post is sarcastic. I can’t believe we’re in a position they have to be asked as there is only 1 answer in my book, it’s not hard and doesn’t start with ‘it depends’.

I'd say most women who use food banks and are struggling give no fucks about Rishi Rich and his knowing what a woman is.

PennyToffee · 02/02/2023 22:20

Exactly. Can't afford to keep the kids warm? Can't afford the rent? Fuck that triviality, Rishi knows what a woman is. Hurrah!

Absolutely. Perhaps the follow up question should have been asking him to explain what the party plans to do for women.

Don’t you mean single-birth-carriers? And the fact that they’re largely disadvantaged women is of no consequence? Seeing as you feel that sex based rights are singularly unimportant…

VladmirsPoutine · 02/02/2023 22:45

@ghostyslovesheets I'm reading the thread back and can't see where anyone's suggested Labour is a "woman loving" party.

But women don’t exist in your political world. There is no such thing anymore. Anyone who says they are can be one apparently. 🙄

Have you worked out that Tory/Labour, Red/Blue etc etc is all just theatre?

Pick a tribe, defend your tribe etc.

Do you really think the "frontmen" we see jeering in the HoC really steer that much? Do they do it based on our votes? How many of the big issues did you see in a manifesto?

Did we vote for lockdown?
To supply arms to Ukraine?
Which party has discussed retirement ages with us?

No - manifestos are full of fluff, while the machine of government ploughs on regardless

smileladiesplease · 02/02/2023 22:47

I am hoping that Kier listens and realises he's on the wrong side of history and women.

Grasp it Kier honestly you do this snd you win the next election landslide

Rishi Rich knows what to say to get the votes. Let's face it he hasn't got much else going for him.

It's all spin.

Well if he's only saying it to get votes, why aren't Labour also saying it to get votes? Do they not realise how cowardly it makes them look? Let alone stupid?

David Lammy saying that men can grow a cervix. I mean if it wasn't so offensive, it would be laughable.

ReneBumsWombats · 02/02/2023 22:49

Chowtime · 02/02/2023 21:30

A woman is a human with two x chromosomes.

People with Swyer's syndrome are female but have XY chromosomes. The Y chromosome basically doesn't work, so it doesn't interrupt the initial female line development that all foetuses start on, the way it's supposed to. As a result, these people are female but without developed ovaries.

That's why "female" is a better definition or, if you really have to get more specific: the reproductive sex class capable of producing ova.

Even if you are infertile, you are still of the reproductive sex class capable of producing sperm or ova...and in fact, whatever fertility condition you have will be able to occur only in your sex class. It literally makes you no less of a man or a woman.

ghostyslovesheets · 02/02/2023 22:49

well the argument seems to be 'lets not discuss women's genuine concerns' because poor women using food banks don't care (has anyone asked them?) - and we all know Rushi doesn't care about the poor so focus on the important stuff

but this is the exact argument in the Labour Party in the 80's over Women's groups, black members caucuses, gay members groups - it's seen as separatism - because the MAIN issues as x/y/z and you are distracting us - but that position of privilege was misguided then and now. Labour have lost me in a useful and productive member - not as a voter - yet - but I am just fed up of our concerns being dismissed as not as important as other issues - they ARE and they deserve equal debate and consideration

smileladiesplease · 02/02/2023 22:51

The only wing that cares less about women are?! Oh no both right and left

OP posts:
Metabigot · 02/02/2023 22:53

The odd chromosomal abnormality in DSD shouldn't retract from the definition of a woman.

No offence to those with DSD but we are a sexually dimorphic species. Abnormalities are rare, but shouldn't mean xx doesn't = woman

smileladiesplease · 02/02/2023 22:54

David Lammy is an idiot to be fair he can't help embarrassing himself!

Yes who don't Labour just do the right thing!!!! They are hell bent on pandering to a tiny minority and ignoring 52% of their votes plus men who think it's all crap too.

I'm too deep panicking and can't back up that's the issue.

XX certainly does mean woman. It's just possible for a woman to have XY - if she has Swyer's syndrome. If what she has instead is a penis, testicles and an Adam's apple, that's another matter. XX and XY are karyotypes, not biological sex.

I just think it's important to understand DSDs a bit because some TRAs exploit people with them to suggest that their existence means sex doesn't exist. In fact, all DSDs are variations along one reproductive pathway or the other. Everyone with a DSD is still male or female.

smileladiesplease · 02/02/2023 22:59

Oh so poor women using good banks are too stupid to care about women's issues????

Really seriously you utter condisending plank

Yes U what now.

I'm so relieved people get it on here

ehb102 · 02/02/2023 23:03

Women's sex based rights underpin my existence. They are the most important issue to me. I've been spoiling my ballot for years now but it may be time to abandon Labour. I already shun the Lib Dems and the Greens.

No one can change sex. Stop pretending it's possible.

I’m currently having to choose between my two strongest beliefs of education and women and I don’t like it.

Exactly this.
Me too!
