Made to sit on the floor on Christmas Day

Not sure if I’m overreacting but I just feel so hurt. When I spend Christmas Day at my parents there aren’t enough chairs in the living room for everyone. This year I was left sitting on the floor all day. I’d hoped when we all went back into the living room after Christmas lunch I might get the opportunity to sit on the sofa but everyone else took their seats where they were previously leaving me to sit on the floor again. My sister, brother in law, mother, and aunt are all fit and able bodied and just as capable as me as sitting on the floor, but they just kept the comfortable seats for themselves all day. AIBU to feel so disappointed that on Christmas Day my family were just happy to see me on the floor all day?

Just improvise. Surely there’s a bedroom stool somewhere? Bring your own spare stools next time

WickedSerious · 28/12/2022 18:39

I'd have parked my arse in someone's lap.

First come first served. If ya snooze, ya lose. Should’ve got there quicker!

I ended up on the floor on Christmas day.
When my brother vacated his spot on the sofa, I nabbed it.
When someone else got off the sofa, he took their space and so it went on all day. The only people didn't have to be on their guard were my parents. we laughed about it each time. Up for a beer...loose your seat. Getting a snack, loose your seat. Toilet.... just cross your legs or lose your seat. I wouldn't get mad about it, especially if you didn't say anything all day.

So nobody got up for a pee? All day?

Toughen up!

Reigateforever · 28/12/2022 19:22

I’d of brought in a dining chair and made a place of it some how, even if it meant squashing up everyone.

Lydiahateswashing · 28/12/2022 19:27

Petty. You DO know there are people on their own / in abusive relationships / homeless at Christmas?

It wouldn’t have killed you to ask to swap. Or to grab a chair from the dining room.

I thought MN was for grown-ups ?

Blueink · 28/12/2022 19:36

They probably thought you were happy to sit there as you didn’t say anything?

I can’t believe you had no opportunity all day and
there was nothing you could bring in to sit on from another room….but you posted and haven’t been back so it’s anyone’s guess.

Georgyporky · 28/12/2022 19:38

"but you posted and haven’t been back so it’s anyone’s guess."

Past OP's bedtime.

MannyTeddy · 28/12/2022 20:34

What is stopping you from getting a chair from the dining room and sitting on it?

JenniferJareau · 28/12/2022 21:01

@SeatlessAtChristmas Will you be updating us?

Just move into a seat when one of them goes to the toilet!

This. How weird that all have just let this happen without saying anything. But you do sound unreasonably passive.

Bleachmycloths · 29/12/2022 07:57

That’s awful. Did you complain? No garden chairs available?
