This FB post is doing the rounds amongst my friends.

Is it just me?

How is it racist? The potential abductor was identified as Asian, that's not racist. Saying all Asians are abductors is racist.

PetraBP · 01/12/2022 18:51

No. It’s a description.

HappyHamsters · 01/12/2022 18:52

It sounds more like a begging letter hoping for private therapy

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 01/12/2022 18:53

Have those who are saying it's a description actually read the whole thing? I was in agreement until the last page

Ramble0n · 01/12/2022 18:54

The last page is pretty racist.

rumship · 01/12/2022 18:54

Oh for god sake give it rest, everything is racist now days according to a vocal minority. It seriously damages real complaints about real racism. This constant trickle of rasism on every single thing people says now days is hurting the real cause.

Thingamebobwotsit · 01/12/2022 18:55

Not racist unless it is a complete fabrication. If it is fictional then yes, pointing directly at a specific part of the community with no basis in fact would suggest that the individual who wrote it has an axe to grind. But if it is true then it is just factual.

The problem with social media is you often can't tell fact from fiction. But always good to question it.

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 01/12/2022 18:55

Nothing In that screams racist.

Did you read all of it?

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia · 01/12/2022 18:55

It's a description. The default assumption in the UK (for many people) is that a person's skin colour is caucasian unless otherwise specified. Which is actually more problematic, but that's not what you were referring to.

samyeagar · 01/12/2022 18:56

Not even a little bit racist, though given the way words meaning are used, misused, conflated, invented, they have very little actual meaning any more.

karmakameleon · 01/12/2022 18:57

If it’s a description it’s a pretty useless description. Asia is quite a large continent and not all the people from Asia look similar.

And then you read the last page and it’s pretty clear that it’s racist.

NotDavidTennant · 01/12/2022 18:57

Yes it's racist. The people saying otherwise clearly haven't read all the way to the end.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/12/2022 18:57

That is racist trolling. YANBU OP.

rumship · 01/12/2022 18:57

Ramble0n · 01/12/2022 18:55

Did you read all of it?

If the OP does not like it report it to Facebook and don't go reposting it them. If you don't like it don't read it.

anaconda1831 · 01/12/2022 18:57

I think the last page is racist

DogInATent · 01/12/2022 18:58

Starts out ok, but definitely ends up crossing the line.

gobbynorthernbird · 01/12/2022 18:58

warn people about what some of these Asian people are doing

Yup, that's racist.

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia · 01/12/2022 18:59

I do agree that the "these people" bit is quite unpleasant. IDK if that's more to do with xenophobia/anti immigration attitudes though, or just racism, does she say anything specific about Asian people or just her experience with this person / recent immigrant issues in her local community?

Ramble0n · 01/12/2022 18:59

rumship · 01/12/2022 18:57

If the OP does not like it report it to Facebook and don't go reposting it them. If you don't like it don't read it.

You don't think the last page about what 'some of these Asian people are doing' is racist?

Yes.

AccioChocolate · 01/12/2022 19:00

Of course it's racist. People really have the attention spans of gnats now days.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/12/2022 19:01

The last page is borderline. There are paedophiles of all shapes, sizes, sexes and races. Singling out one nationality because of one individual is pretty spurious.

PAFMO · 01/12/2022 19:01

There may be a tiny grain of truth (mother believed Layla was about to be abducted) amidst all the goady exaggerated bollocks.

The police for starters would not be giving this woman the amount of information she claims to have been given.

The Home Office would certainly not be telling the police that China can't give information as to why he claimed asylum. That bit is farcical. Someone claims asylum in the UK and the UK authorities contact their home country to ask why? Bollocks do they.

She'd have had more credibility had she said the perp was Nepalese given that in the tumbleweed that's Ashford High Street the only Asians (apart from my students who attend the school) are the Nepalese families who have been in the area for generations. Mind you, she probably can't spell that.

Nothing in the local press about it.

And Layla being so traumatised will have nothing at all to do with her ignorant racist redneck mother shouting her mouth off all over SM.
